What’s the sad reality about life that you had to learn?

To me it was how little people actually care about other’s.

And how lonely and isolating life can be, even as an adult, if you just don’t ”fit in” with the norm.

I don’t believe in happiness, more happy ‘moments’

Happiness and sadness are emotiones, both are needed.
They are the opposite sides of the spectrum.

The key is contentment.

And I say this as someone who definitely sees life more sad than anything else, working on it.

Or perhaps just haven’t found anything funny when you’re around

the lack of insight of some on this thread is striking!

I agree again!
I know several people who think I never laugh- my own mother thinks that too- she laughs all the way through TV sitcoms- generally I can barely raise a smile.
My adult DS totally gets me- we laugh like drains because we both share the same funny bone.
My mother never sees me laugh- my DS sees me laughing a lot.

@speakout @Bertieboo82

It's not lack of insight and yes someone in my life a lot.

This is the saddest one yet. But unfortunately true.

I agree with this one, particularly the second part. It's a bullshit that a man is going to turn up and discover you and spontaneously decides he adores you.

SurfBox · 11/07/2022 09:04

I was naive when I was a younger woman and did think that women would support each other generally, unfortunately it's not true. That's why I put it

why wouldn't you think that people support each other though?

SurfBox · 11/07/2022 09:09

Sometimes people will treat us badly because we don't treat ourselves very well

but that still makes the other poster's point relevant-the fact that they do that and have to be guided into treating us properly shows how shity people can be.

That so called democracies in Europe that are being run by faceless technocrats that are voted and/or employed from within, wield the most enormous power here in Europe in 2022 and no one knows who they are. The European president can not be removed, and she isn’t answerable to anyone.
It scares me that there is now an autocratic system that has been created, and it worries me greatly how the populations of the member nations have had no say in its evolution or the direction it will take in the future despite the impact on their lives.

When you refer to”the European President” and “she”, do you mean the President of the European Commission?

The President of the Commission is elected for a term of five years, and is accountable to the European Parliament, i.e. the MEPs elected by the EU citizens specifically to represent them. The president and their Commission may be removed from office by a vote of censure from Parliament. Parliament has never done this to date, however the imminence of such a vote in 1999, due to allegations of financial mismanagement, led to the Santer Commission resigning on its own accord, before the Parliamentary vote.

Even on a board for women by women, there will always be women going NAMALT as if they had never even heard of Zara Aleena, Sabina Nessa, Sarah Everard or any of the 52 women killed by men this year. It's not about your lovely DH or DS. It is about male violence, which remains a problem for both men and women, but especially women

yea but most killings and violent acts are done to men by men so women don't get the worst brunt of this. And yes we have heard of these unfortunate women but most men are not violent and majority don't kill anybody so let's not lose perspective. Alot of the terrorism is done by Muslims-doesn't mean we can blame them.

As long as I am healthy, I can deal with anything which is thrown at me

does that mean you couldn't take an illness?

Anonymouseposter · 14/07/2022 16:10

After years of fighting it, it actually happened,
Everyone turned into a cynic,
Joy was cancelled. Hope was cast away,
Love became a chore.
The artists stopped painting flowers,
The poets stopped writing about the moon,
And, because laughter was now overrated
The comedians all retired.

   Until One Day...

a little girl looked outside her school window,
and saw a bright blue wildflower
had burst its way courageously
from the unforgiving concrete,
and reached for a blue crayon
instead of the grey one.
And drew us flowers, and joy
and Hope again.

If you're not careful, you can waste a lot of precious years both dealing with and recovering from arseholes.

The only man that I can trust, is my Dad.

RiojaRose · 14/07/2022 23:39

The vast majority of men are unwilling to listen to women about what life is really like for us.

SurfBox · 15/07/2022 08:49

The vast majority of men are unwilling to listen to women about what life is really like for us

that's why we live in a bubble here on mn and think life is much better for men, it generally isn't for many.

I have another one: extraordinary women are routinely paid smaller salaries, and promoted less often, than mediocre men. I often wonder what the world would be like if equal opportunities actually happened in practice.

On the whole
people don’t change

Surfbox was renamed Soapbox on a previous thread.

I think it is the more appropriate username for the user. 😂

The longer you live, the more people you lose 💔

😢

RaspberryParfait · 16/07/2022 00:25

That really bad shit doesn’t just happen to other people, it can happen to you too.

That people are cunts.

That blood is absolutely not thicker than water (well it might be scientifically speaking but YKWIM).

That the only person you should trust and have respect for is yourself and maybe your DC when they’re not being arseholes.

That karma does not exist.

That life is pretty much a random series of events starting with who’s womb you grow in and who’s sperm fertilises you.

That eating less and moving more really is the only way to lose weight.

<sigh>

Is there no “block” facility on this forum?

I’m finding them so tiresome!

Obesity is a lifestyle choice, not a disease.

Ditto alcoholism, drug abuse, hoarding etc etc, we are constantly having lifestyle choices elevated to 'illnesses' which the NHS has to treat, one of its biggest problems and drain on resources.
