Have you heard of a place called Jersey before?

Sorry if AIBU is not the most appropriate place to post this thread in.

Would you say Jersey is a well known holiday destination? Have you heard of it before?

OP posts:

I suppose the real challenge is asking how many people have heard of Lihou, Brecqhou, or the Ecrehous? 😅

Pah! Mainstream! How many of the Paternosters can you name?

Born and bred in Jersey. When I lived in the USA, this led to some... interesting... conversations!

No sign of the OP in 8 pages people...

To be fair, they did post at twenty to eleven. Give them a chance to wake up!

GoodThinkingMax · 05/07/2022 05:22

Of course it’s a place I’ve heard of. How ignorant do you think posters are?

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 05/07/2022 05:23

Are you mainly asking British people if they have heard of the well known part of the UK which is called Jersey in the Channel Islands? Why wouldn't they?

Are you in Britain/British?

The Channel Islands, including Jersey, are not part of the United Kingdom!!!

ChampagneLassie · 05/07/2022 05:24

I reckon @youwontwith has got into a debate with someone possibly her DP/DH who hasn't and claims most people wouldn't and she's trying to prove him wrong. My best friend has horrendous geography I'm pretty sure if I asked her where Jersey is shed get it wrong.

The second poster to point out this mis apprehension but not correct it.

Mostly because ( even though technically, it’s a crown dependency) it might as well be the U.K for most people. You don’t need a passport to get there from the U.K and you can use pounds.

Els1e · 05/07/2022 06:00

Yes, know about Jersey. I’ve been a couple of times on holiday. I lived and worked on Guernsey some years ago. Absolutely loved it. Been to the other Channel Islands as well on day trips.

newnamethanks · 05/07/2022 06:01

Yes, of course, have you heard of Google? It's very useful and will answer your question comprehensively. Jersey is a pleasant and expensive tax haven. Don't mistake it for New Jersey, a friend who lives there had a bear in her garden a few weeks ago.

SavoirFlair · 05/07/2022 06:05

This is a very clever piece of marketing for the island!

BarbaraofSeville · 05/07/2022 06:08

It's quite heavily promoted as a holiday destination by Jet2 so yes I would say its a well known for holidays plus its existence is obviously common knowledge unless you live under a rock.

I do know a couple of people who've been there. One liked it, the other not especially so, said it was expensive and full of posh people.

Perhaps popular with the type of people who go to places like the Scillies but fancy a change.

Oblomov22 · 05/07/2022 06:13

Eh? Yes of course.

PurpleFlower1983 · 05/07/2022 06:14

Yes of course.

WinterMusings · 05/07/2022 06:15

merryhouse · 04/07/2022 22:42

errrrrr...

(my parents, swish bastards, went there on their honeymoon)

Mine too!!

WinterMusings · 05/07/2022 06:17

@youwontwith

Care to come back & tell us why you're asking such a weird question??

Seashor · 05/07/2022 06:18

One of my favourite places.

Saracen · 05/07/2022 06:18

Yes. Before I moved to the UK I only had a vague idea where it was, however.

StoneofDestiny · 05/07/2022 06:21

Something wrong if someone in the UK hasn’t heard of Jersey! Been there - nice place.

speakout · 05/07/2022 06:30

Is this a trick question?
Jersey is well known to most even if we haven't visited.
I know it to be a popular holiday destination and very beautiful.
You will see produce from Jersey everry time you go into a supermarket.

spanieleyes · 05/07/2022 06:31

Had my honeymoon there and my aunt and uncle live there, aunt is Jerriais.

Spanielsarepainless · 05/07/2022 06:40

Of course.

SongOfHiawatha · 05/07/2022 06:42

Obviously yes

We still have £1 notes which amuses people when they visit.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 05/07/2022 06:48

Yes, very nice climate.
They should consider dropping the name Jersey and adopt Tee-shirt or Blousey.

TeenDivided · 05/07/2022 07:01

I have so missed Jersey over the pandemic having been there yearly for the previous 25 years.
Luckily we have our spot booked on the Clipper for this summer.
All the people on MN who sanctimoniously slag off zoos should visit Jersey Zoo and learn about the fabulous conservation work it does.

Sideorderofchips · 05/07/2022 07:15

Hi fellow beans!!

It's very expensive to live here but so worth it
