Sorry if AIBU is not the most appropriate place to post this thread in.

Would you say Jersey is a well known holiday destination? Have you heard of it before?

OP posts:
Floella22 · 04/07/2022 22:43

Had our honeymoon there.
Have you never heard of Jersey cows, butter or potatoes?

Talipesmum · 04/07/2022 22:43

Yes, def well known, though not specifically as a holiday destination IMO.

I do wonder if there’s a correlation with familiarity and watching lots of Bergerac as a child…

MyFourthName · 04/07/2022 22:42

Bergerac country

Not forgetting the spuds, and the cows 🐮

PortMac · 04/07/2022 22:44

Yes. I’m Australian and I’ve heard of it

carefullycourageous · 04/07/2022 22:44

Yes it is well known in the UK, yes I have heard of it.

YesNoMaybeNot · 04/07/2022 22:44

You are asking a UK base if they have heard of Jersey 🤦‍♀️

Hellocatshome · 04/07/2022 22:44

I didnt ever really know it was a holiday destination when I was younger but have known of its existence for as long as I can remember.

lightisnotwhite · 04/07/2022 22:45

Yes. The Channel Islands are pretty well known in the U.K. They’ve even got a “Real Housewives of “ tv show so pretty mainstream.

I also know about the Isle of Man, Shetland Isles, Sicily Isles and the Isle of Wight.

toomuchlaundry · 04/07/2022 22:45

Yes. First holiday with friends rather than parents.

Occupied by Germany in WWII

TonTonMacoute · 04/07/2022 22:45

I shouldn’t imagine many Uzbeks have heard of Jersey. British people - well, yes! It’s a very well/known place.

xyzandabc · 04/07/2022 22:45

If you're British or lived in Britain for a significant amount of time, then I would expect you to know that Jersey is a channel island and popular holiday destination. Up there with the likes of Cornwall, Snowdonia, Isle of Wight or the Lake District.

If you are not British (or perhaps french) then I wouldn't expect you to know it so much.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 04/07/2022 22:45

This is really weird. Yes OP - everyone in the UK and probably France have heard of and / or visited Jersey. Failing that they may have drunk the milk or eaten the potatoes the place is also famous for!

Dic · 04/07/2022 22:46

Yes

FatOaf · 04/07/2022 22:46

Are you mainly asking British people if they have heard of the well known part of the UK which is called Jersey in the Channel Islands?

Jersey is not part of the UK. Never has been.

TreePoser · 04/07/2022 22:46

I have of course. Im Irish not British and although it's not a commonly named holiday destination, i know people who've been. Sounds like a nice place to live!

BaronessBomburst · 04/07/2022 22:46

Have you never had a Jersey Royal? They're potatoes.
And what about Jersey cows? Just as famous.

Wherehasthecommonsensegone · 04/07/2022 22:46

merryhouse · 04/07/2022 22:42

errrrrr...

(my parents, swish bastards, went there on their honeymoon)

For some reason I read that as Swiss not swish and had to read it again 😂 I was thinking that’s a bit harsh on your parents.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/07/2022 22:47

I went there as a child.
I've got friends who live there.
I've read books based there.
It was the only "part" of the UK invaded by the Nazis in WWII (along with other Channel Islands) (I know its a Crown Dependency!)
Bergerac
Guernsey, Sark, Alderney, Herm...
Nearly Normandy than England

Yep I've heard of it

UrsulaPandress · 04/07/2022 22:47

Why do you ask?

Bwix · 04/07/2022 22:47

Yes. Have you heard of the country called France which is quite nearby?

SweetSakura · 04/07/2022 22:48

I don't understand the context of the question?

I have family there but sort of assumed most people had heard of it?

Toottooot · 04/07/2022 22:48

No, niver heard of it. Far is it?

QueSyrahSyrah · 04/07/2022 22:48

Have you been watching Countryfile OP?

Yesterday's episode had loads about Jersey and it looked absolutely stunning.

mnahmnah · 04/07/2022 22:49

@FatOaf

Technically a Crown dependency of the UK, but for the purpose of this thread I think saying it’s part of the UK isn’t too wide of the mark

Bestshapeever · 04/07/2022 22:49

Are you a Guernsey bod takin the Mickey maybe?
