Have you heard of a place called Jersey before?

Sorry if AIBU is not the most appropriate place to post this thread in.

Would you say Jersey is a well known holiday destination? Have you heard of it before?

Yes obviously. Channel Islands, UK and New Jersey, USA.

A weird question to ask.

cakeorwine · 04/07/2022 22:58

Does Charlie Hungerford still live there?

Mind you, I can imagine there are people who haven't heard of it.

AintNoPartyLikeANumber10Party · 04/07/2022 22:59

😂
erm yes it’s well known

Pinotpleasure · 04/07/2022 22:59

Ha ha! I have dual UK/US nationality and lived in New Jersey, USA for many years.

It’s the norm for people resident in New Jersey to just refer to it as “Jersey”.

Actually my son has a hoodie (from the sports brand ‘Champion’) with an outline of the State of New Jersey, but it just states “Jersey” in large writing on it. :)

(There are many small towns in the State with English names, presumably from Brits who settled there in the early days of immigration eg. Oxford, Margate, Deal, Manchester, Dover, Newark, Bridgewater, Jersey City, Stafford, Galloway, Somerset, Kenilworth etc. etc)

Badlifeday · 04/07/2022 22:59

I've been there, had definitely heard of it before too

soootiredddd · 04/07/2022 22:59

Yes I have but I reckon a significant minority of people my age (early 30s) won’t have heard of it. Benidorm is a more common holiday destination than Jersey now.

onlythreenow · 04/07/2022 22:59

I'm in New Zealand and I've known about Jersey for years.

DeanStockwelll · 04/07/2022 23:00

I presume you are talking about the Island in the channel and not some obscure state or district then yes of course I have.

I am English born and bred but I know people from France and Germany that know of / have been to it.

Why do you ask ?

BeggarsMeddle · 04/07/2022 23:00

Channel Islands Tourist Board carrying out some market research?

transformandriseup · 04/07/2022 23:00

Yes but live pretty close to the south coast thought.

I know quite a few people who confuse the Isle of Man with the Isle of Wight

RampantIvy · 04/07/2022 23:01

You have got to be joking.

longcoffeebreak · 04/07/2022 23:01

I'm in it at the moment 😀

Testina · 04/07/2022 23:01

Just following in case OP posts again! I want to know the context!

LimpBiskit · 04/07/2022 23:01

Yes, obviously

Testina · 04/07/2022 23:01

longcoffeebreak · 04/07/2022 23:01

I'm in it at the moment 😀

Or on it? 😀

Toottooot · 04/07/2022 23:02

As in Jersey Shore? With Snooki, Pauly D, J Woww etc?

TambourineOfRepentance · 04/07/2022 23:02

Yes, it's not necessarily the first place I'd think of as a holiday destination but I'd expect most people in the UK to have heard of it.

longcoffeebreak · 04/07/2022 23:03

@Testina IN!!!Grin

ArcheryAnnie · 04/07/2022 23:03

Produces the best spuds, the best butter, the best and most ethical zoo in the world, and the best actor ever to play Geralt of Rivia.

Swimbikerunmummy · 04/07/2022 23:03

I can see it from across the water! Hello from Guernsey :-)

Dixiechickonhols · 04/07/2022 23:03

Of course I’ve been twice. Watching love island with my daughter I was surprised none of the contestants appeared to know about Guernsey - Andrew’s not from England. Minds were blown when he explained it was nearer France.

HelloAllll · 04/07/2022 23:04

I assume you are not british or living in the uk?

CherrySocks · 04/07/2022 23:04

If you mean the one in the Channel Islands, yes it's very familiar and I've been on holiday there at least three times. I live in Southern England though. It might not be so well known to people who live further away. Personally I can't name all the Scottish islands for example.

Oceanus · 04/07/2022 23:05

Where are you OP? Go on, we know it's coming! What's the pun? Is the OP ever coming back?
