Sorry if AIBU is not the most appropriate place to post this thread in.

Would you say Jersey is a well known holiday destination? Have you heard of it before?

Yes of course!

Heard it’s very nice 😊

steff13 · 04/07/2022 22:50

I'm in the US, and I know there's a place in the UK called Jersey, but I don't know anything about it. When someone says Jersey I think New Jersey first.

Narwhalelife · 04/07/2022 22:50

My parents live there and it’s amazing 🥰

2tired2bewitty · 04/07/2022 22:51

Is that you Dominic Raab?

BrownStripePJ · 04/07/2022 22:51

Yes but only because my husband used to holiday there as a child. Prior to meeting him, I hadn't heard of it. (But was aware of the cows and Potatoes )

nocoolnamesleft · 04/07/2022 22:52

Yes, of course. Crown Dependency, largest of the Channel Islands, off the coast of Normandy. William the Conqueror already ruled them when he came over to conquer England, so brought them with him. Invaded and occupied during WWII. Interesting fortifications, underground hospital, absolutely stunning beaches, and a renowned wildlife centre. Off shore tax haven. And yes, Jersey Royals, which are ambrosia, and partially owe their flavour to the traditional seaweed fertiliser.

Are you mainly asking British people if they have heard of the well known part of the UK which is called Jersey in the Channel Islands? Why wouldn't they?

Are you in Britain/British?

This.

I can't imagine someone from the UK not knowing!

Dita73 · 04/07/2022 22:52

Good spuds

XenoBitch · 04/07/2022 22:52

Er, yes. It is one of the Channel Islands.
Lovely spuds come from there. I eat my body weight in them when in season.
Also been on holiday there loads.

PeterCannaeRun · 04/07/2022 22:53

Yes, I have been too. Beautiful place.

But like others have said, Jersey potatoes? Creamy Jersey Milk? They even sell it in Aldi.

JudgeJ · 04/07/2022 22:53

MyFourthName · 04/07/2022 22:42

Bergerac country

My first thought too!

Oceanus · 04/07/2022 22:54

Is this going to be one of those things like "Oh, I meant Paris in Panama" or "I meant Paris in Texas"...? I feel like there's sth funky coming! Where's this Jersey you're talking about? 🤔

easyday · 04/07/2022 22:54

I wouldn't necessarily expect someone outside of the UK/France to know about it.

megletthesecond · 04/07/2022 22:55

Of course I've heard of it. Off the southern UK coast near France. Quite posh.

RampantIvy · 04/07/2022 22:55

I can't think of anyone born and brought up in the UK who wouldn't have heard of Jersey. I have also heard of Guernsey, Alderney, Herm and Sark.

wizzler · 04/07/2022 22:55

Of course. Beautiful place, lovely beaches, new potatoes and Gerald Durrells zoo

hatchyu · 04/07/2022 22:56

I do wonder if younger people will be as aware as you don't hear much about it now. I remember there being tourism adverts for it when I was younger.

Jijithecat · 04/07/2022 22:56

Yes, for lots of reasons including being the home of Jambo - the gorilla not the Hollyoaks character.

AnyFucker · 04/07/2022 22:56

Are you taking the piss ?

mm40 · 04/07/2022 22:56

Yes….. it’s a fabulous place to buy diesel for your yacht as it’s tax free - less than half the price than the UK.

CaptainBeakyandhisband · 04/07/2022 22:57

My dad lived there for a while as a child and I had a university friend from there (we used to tease him because his driving licence looked homemade).

Land of Bergerac, cows, potatoes, golden sand, German occupation and (sadly) historic child abuse

Have people really not heard of Jersey?

hatchyu · 04/07/2022 22:57

They’ve even got a “Real Housewives of “ tv show so pretty mainstream.

which was shit

uncomfortablydumb53 · 04/07/2022 22:57

Of Course
I've been there. It's beautiful

hatchyu · 04/07/2022 22:58

I don't know anyone who has been there though.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 04/07/2022 22:58

Did you mean to ask if anyone hasn't heard of Jersey? Or as a pp asked is it some kind of trick question?
