Should a male teacher have done this?

During a residential school trip, enter a girls' shared dorm to wake them up?
To my mind it's a safeguarding issue, and there was also a female teacher on the trip who could have done it.
I wanted to seek others' opinions before raising it.
Thanks.

The teacher has form for having 'off' judgement at times.

As a mother I don't think I would have a problem with it. But as a małe teacher I wouldn't do it.

cricketwidoww · 01/07/2022 23:52

What's the issue?

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/07/2022 23:52

I wouldn't like it. And male staff I know wouldn't do it.

DdraigGoch · 01/07/2022 23:52

How old are the kids?

mycatisannoying · 01/07/2022 23:53

A male teacher in a room of sleeping 13 year old girls. It doesn't sit right with me.

Would you complain about a female teacher waking up the boys?

BattenburgDonkey · 01/07/2022 23:53

I don’t see an issue with it, presumably you felt your child was safe with this teacher when you let them go, and he wasn’t alone with one of them.

MardyBumm · 01/07/2022 23:54

As above. If nothing inappropriate happened, I would not make a fuss. if I was a male teacher I would not have done it to protect myself from accusations.

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 01/07/2022 23:54

I wouldn't be bothered by this but the fact that he's had "off" judgements might sway my opinion though it would help to know why you feel that he's had "off" judgements.

He walked in to wake them up though, probably stayed at the door, he wasn’t exactly creeping about while they slept was he.

Well, I did a bet with myself on how long it would take for someone to come along and ask this specific question.

How did he wake them up?

Put his head round the door and say its time to get up? (No different to a female teacher doing the same for male pupils)

Or sit by each bed with his hands on each girl (just as abusive as any teacher of any sex with a child of any sex)

What does this mean? Can you give some examples?

HappilyHadesBound · 01/07/2022 23:55

@mycatisannoying yet you don't answer

Snap @TeapotTitties 😂

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/07/2022 23:57

YABU.

MardyBumm · 01/07/2022 23:57

I think if girls were sleeping in their own individual rooms, that would be a different matter but it was a group of girls. He woke them up. How long was he there? A minute max I bet.

mycatisannoying · 01/07/2022 23:58

During the trip, he convinced himself that my daughter was on her phone. This wasn't true, as her phone was here the whole time (they weren't permitted to take them and I wholeheartedly supported this). He asked the other children to let him know - using a code word - if anyone spotted her on the phone. Pitting the children against each other like this is completely unacceptable and inappropriate.

And yet you didn't answer it?

Because it's a stupid question.

That's rather different from your OP about waking them up....

Popsicle33 · 02/07/2022 00:00

It sounds like you're looking for something to be outraged about. I'm sure he didn't go in and pull their blankets off.

Why? Please explain

mycatisannoying · 02/07/2022 00:01

@Runnerbeansflower

People asked for specific examples about his poor judgement.
