Fed up of Judgy comments to DS

DS is 12 weeks.

DP has always been obsessed with clothes. Looking smart, designer gear… the lot.

so when I got pregnant I knew we’d have a very well dressed little boy. He has a lot of high end clothes

but for some reason my friends ALWAYS have something to say about it.

always the “you have more money than sense” or “he’s a baby you are ridiculous” or “oh god” followed by eye rolls or bringing other people over “LOOK WHAT DS NAME IS WEARING NOW”

Most of the stuff is from outlets, so end up being a similar price to next baby clothes. But I cant be arsed to tell people that. People also don’t realise that DS wears clothes from charity shops, hand me downs etc. I feel like if I started justifying it by saying “oh well it only cost xxx and his trousers are charity shop” it makes me seem like I’m embarrassed. Im really not.

who wouldn’t want their DC to have the best of everything?

we aren’t in debt and it’s something DP loves to spend money on. People waste money on drink/drugs…

i dont really care what they think, but just get bored of these stupid comments. WHO CARES?
id love to know some responses that basically shuts it all down without me sounding like I’m getting aggravated by it.

"We re getting him ready for the first poonami, he needs to be well dressed for the insta"

LoudingVoice · 01/07/2022 23:39

I wouldn’t even notice the brand of clothes a 12 week old baby was wearing, are they commenting out of the blue or are you telling them?

I actually think it’s a bit odd that they’d notice unless all his clothes are plastered in Gucci logos or something?

Fattyandconfused · 01/07/2022 23:43

@cestlavielife ha ha ha love that!

@LoudingVoice no, but I think it’s a running thing now. Sometimes I’ll walk in and people will say “ooooh what’s he wearing now”. It’s normally a smalll Ralph Lauren horse. Or a tiny Gant logo. Nothing massive!!!

You are confusing wasting money on putting a baby into a particular item of clothing because of it's brand name with this ^ though.

Of course we all want "the best" for our dc, but 'wearing designer gear' isn't what most of the population think of when talking about 'the best' for their dc.

Fattyandconfused · 01/07/2022 23:48

@Kite22 youre funny. You’ve literally just taken 1 sentence to make it fit your weird narrative.
As I said, DP loves fashion. We have no debt. Nothing. Don’t drink.

Do you drink? Because I’d think that was a waste of money. I’d never begrudge you for it. I’d probably never even say that to you, because quite frankly what someone spends their money is fuck all to do with anyone else. My post was about how to deal with the comments

I want my child to have the best of everything. Best clothes. Best hobbies. Best life. No exceptions.

It is silly, but it's your money.

saraclara · 01/07/2022 23:50

In trying really hard to be logical and rational about this, if you're being entirely honest that these clothes are no more expensive than mainstream stores clothes. But I really don't get designer gear for babies, and also instinctively think this...

saraclara · 01/07/2022 23:51

I would never pass comment to the parents though.

Iwonder08 · 01/07/2022 23:51

Enjoy your baby OP, next time your 'friends' comment ask them why they are so obsessed with your child's outfits as their comments are getting a bit repetitive. Generally MN population think people should only buy second hand clothes and toys as 'it is good for environment' so you are probably going to get some comments along these lines.
It is entirely irrelevant what other people think, you should ignore them

butterflied · 01/07/2022 23:51

What do you mean, best hobbies?!

FungalNail · 01/07/2022 23:52

This is nobodies business. However it is worth showing off items that are charity shop or hand me downs to highlight the fact you’ve dressed your child well whilst considering the environment and economy.

Patapouf · 01/07/2022 23:56

butterflied · 01/07/2022 23:51

What do you mean, best hobbies?!

Designer hobbies obviously

sqirrelfriends · 01/07/2022 23:56

Completely up to you what you dress your baby in. I wouldn’t say designer clothes are necessarily the “best” but that’s just my opinion.

saraclara · 01/07/2022 23:56

I want my child to have the best of everything. Best clothes. Best hobbies. Best life. No exceptions.

Hmm. Let's hope you don't end up with a very entitled and arrogant adult at the end of this.

SemperIdem · 01/07/2022 23:57

I think babies in designer clothes look tacky. Just my opinion of course.

TooTiredToSleepRightNow · 01/07/2022 23:58

I don’t have a problem with clothes that happen to be expensive or designer as I have many myself but I don’t purposely pick them for that reason more the fabric or cut etc but I do think labels and logos on show are tacky and wonder if people would still wear the same clothes if the label was hidden, but I wouldn’t go on about it to someone and make them feel bad about it.

User3568975431146 · 01/07/2022 23:59

I totally get what @Kite22 means. Usually the best of things doesn't relate to designer clothes and as for best hobbies....?

Your answer was very rude to say the least and unnecessary, you seemed to miss the point then become a tad aggressive.

Maybe have a wee sit down and don't be so ready to jump at people. As a parent there will be plenty of things said and done that you're not going to like so it's a good idea to teach yourself to tone down the attitude now before your baby gets any older.

Fattyandconfused · 01/07/2022 23:59

@saraclara why would I lie? Some things
are much more expensive than main stream shops. Other things are in sales, in outlets stores and similar price.

@Iwonder08 thank you! I forgot how odd some of this MN population was. asked for advice on how to respond to comments. Get told I’m wasting my money! Ha!!!!

@FungalNail thank you. I am completely against fast fashion, which I can assure you almost everyone I know buys into!!!! We are part of Facebook groups where once DC is out of those clothes we can sell to other budding fashionistas! Just feel like if people are passing judgement why should I explain myself

OP posts:
SaltySalad · 02/07/2022 00:01

Are they being rude or are they genuinely interested to see what he is wearing as he has such a flash wardrobe?

EmmiJay · 02/07/2022 00:01

I did the same as you. Got the same comments. Fuck em. When DD grew out of her clothes/shoes etc I'd sell them and got money back for her next lot of clothes further down the line. ✨️Investments✨️🤣

TeapotTitties · 02/07/2022 00:01

I really don't think anyone cares as much as perhaps you think they do?

A few comments on your baby's outfits are par for the course.

There won't be a single parent here who hasn't had people comment on their kid's outfits, it's just what people do.

Wouldloveanother · 02/07/2022 00:02

I think we have another drama llama OP on our hands

Fattyandconfused · 02/07/2022 00:03

@saraclara an entitled adult because I want the best for my child hahahahaha. Sorry I’ll just dress him in a bin bag and give him a bike without wheels because I don’t want him to be entitled. Sorry son you can’t play sports because you can’t be entitled.

@User3568975431146 why was I rude? I asked for advice on how to deal with comments. Not for people to pass judgement on what I dress my son in…. So why don’t you have a “wee sit down” and re read my post.

Thanks @User3568975431146

It did seem an incredibly rude and aggressive an OTT reply Hmm

Fattyandconfused · 02/07/2022 00:05

@EmmiJay exactly that!!!! Lots of higher end stuff keeps in value!
