Made me go weak at the knees and I can’t stop thinking about it. Fairly confident I am the only woman in the country who feels like this and I should probably refer myself for some kind of aversion therapy.

Before Wednesday I had the same Raab is a wanker opinions as the rest of you. Sorry, I just needed to tell someone.

Class kink huh?

Winking isn’t a friendly ‘just politics’ gesture. There’s no way he would have done that to a man standing opposite him in the HoP.

I dunno. In my part of the country, north west England, it's a friendly gesture. Men wink at men and women wink at women. It's not sexual. It's just more like I'm having you on or don't take it seriously. So round here it wouldn't be strange for Raab to wink at a man.
Maybe that's how he was brought up too?

Sharrowgirl · 03/07/2022 07:22

I agree but men and women do sometimes interact differently to men/men and women/women, that’s human nature. That doesn’t mean that those differences are automatically sexist or wrong.

MarshaMelrose · 03/07/2022 07:24

@MoneyTreePose
Being in Ireland i don't know the context of his sexism and his views but gather they're terrible,

I don't know much about him other than what I read about his upbringing on Wikipedia so I'm learning about him from you all. What are his terrible views?

MoneyTreePose · 03/07/2022 07:51

All I know about him is that with regard to implications of Brexit, he doesn't respect or understand the good friday agreement. I should know more but..... Blush

It automatically does in a professional setting.

I know exactly what you mean but it’s still an informal gesture whether or not the intention is sexual or friendly. If you’re leading PMQ’s it’s not professional. They don’t need gestures, it’s quite normal just to use their words and verbalise that they respect the MP but disagree.

I agree it was a friendly gesture and the OP is the one who found it sexual but it’s still a fairly patronising one that he’s not known to do routinely to women or men. It’s very ‘ah love, you’re doing a sterling job at this politics business even if you’re wrong. Good for you’.

Raab, in the same session, had to clarify he meant a comment to Blackford sincerely when his benches took it as an opportunity to start jeering. He’s not stupid, he knows the dynamics in the room and wider repercussions. He just thinks he’s at the top of the food chain.

You piqued my interest and I had to look up the footage. No, not at all sexy.

I also don't think it was patronising or a put down though. I think it's 2 people, both pretty good at what they do, enjoying the sparring.

Yeah that's the impression I got too.

Although there's a tiny tragic part of me that would love it if they were secretly in love Blush

Oh, Brexit. Ugh, yes. You're from Ireland, I wouldn't expect you to know anything about him. I don't and he's an English MP. I was just asking because there were judgements about his education and background on this thread and when I looked on Wikipedia, it turned out the claimed facts were totally not true. So I'm interested in what's said about him. You might be right and he might indeed have dreadful views. But you don't know what they are? Just that they're terrible?

MarshaMelrose · 03/07/2022 11:41

I'm not here to defend Dominic Raab's professionalism... or lack thereof. 😅
I was just answering someone saying he wouldn't wink at a man as if that's a verboten thing. Whereas where I live it's very common to wink at same sex people. That's all.

queenofarles · 03/07/2022 12:24

Not sexy at all , but he is not bad looking either , people expressing their disgust is it because he’s Dominic Raab ?

Cornettoninja · 03/07/2022 12:40

Theres undeniably an element of that, and that’s because he’s an MP who displayed this behaviour in an inappropriate environment. I really can’t think of an MP of any colour when I’d find that okay.

I can’t deny that the fact he’s a member of a thoroughly corrupt and incompetent cabinet adds a special layer to my disapproval trifle. He’s not really got enough credits built up for me to write it off.

Cornettoninja · 03/07/2022 12:43

For those wondering what the problem is with him generally, he’s the foreign secretary who wouldn’t cut his beach holiday short during the disastrous evacuation of Afghanistan.

this is a (heavily biased obviously) short article on him www.joe.co.uk/amp/politics/dominic-raabs-five-worst-moments-as-foreign-secretary-we-wont-forget-any-time-soon-289130

Nothing to do with this physical looks, no.
Although, I personally am not physically attracted to him either he's not bad looking at all. No, my disgust has everything to do with who he seems to be and his politics.

I get the feeling from the messages that it's more because he's a Tory.

FurElsie · 03/07/2022 16:34

I must admit I love a wink too! I think because it's sexy but also playful, not cringey. Doesn't make me suddenly weak at the knees for an unsexy man tho, I didn't see the dominic raab one, I doubt it would do it for me! Especially if the motivation was suspect.

Kidsaretryingtodestroyme · 03/07/2022 18:14

‘I get the feeling from the messages that it's more because he's a Tory.’

Well in my case you’d be wrong. He looks like he’s got a really angry streak just beneath the surface - serious ‘gift of fear’ vibes. He’s also tiny and skinny. His skin looks like it’s been pulled over his skull with a massive throbbing vein on his forehead. Expect him to pull his face off and Skeletor from He-Man pops out!

007DoubleOSeven · 03/07/2022 18:51

Oh yea, I agree with this totally

The man is thick as mince with a nasty streak a mile wide. Doesn't do it for me.

Particularly sickened by the Dep. PM of the "levelling up government" castigating a working class woman for daring to go to the opera (on the invitation of a friend from home who happens to now be a professional violin player working at the theatre).

I thought i was being summoned! 😉
