Made me go weak at the knees and I can’t stop thinking about it. Fairly confident I am the only woman in the country who feels like this and I should probably refer myself for some kind of aversion therapy.

Before Wednesday I had the same Raab is a wanker opinions as the rest of you. Sorry, I just needed to tell someone.

Just what I'd expect from that lot. BJ probably tutors them in flirting with the ladies.

Angela would have him breakfast, lunch and dinner. He should be so lucky 🤣

EscapeTheCastle · 01/07/2022 18:29

I liked the wink. Sorry. My shame is suitably deep.

I think it was directed at the person sitting next to her on her left. So across and to his right.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/07/2022 18:30

I think her having a laugh with him utterly undermines her messaging. They both looked as bad as each other, and that made me sad tbh.

TomBradysLeftKneecap · 01/07/2022 18:35

I thought he looked like he had a twitch!

Geneviev · 01/07/2022 18:36

Wh…what?!

He’s like someone’s creepy old uncle 😬 I’ve just looked it up and I just….I can’t

SharpLily · 01/07/2022 18:37

Momicrone · 01/07/2022 18:13

Sharplily, so what exactly was that wink doing then, given its context?

I think it was acknowledging the way they challenge each other in public. Taking the sting out of the tail of calling each other scum, champagne socialists etc. Assuring her that he's making a political point and it's not personal.

Is winking only done as a put down, then? I've been known to wink at peopl and it's not to put them down. My (female) friend winked at me the other day. I'm pretty sure she wasn't trying to put me down.

the80sweregreat · 01/07/2022 18:38

If Angela Raynor had a very cultured accent and from a privileged background from 'old ' money , with her looks as well the Conservatives would absolutely love her. As it is they are not sure what to make of her , I mean Opera ? That's only for people with money in their world. Nonsense , but that's how they think.
I bet they are all hoping that Sir Kier Starmer and her get a fixed penalty notice and they can then see the back of both of them.

Geneviev · 01/07/2022 18:38

I hate winking though.

Its one of those human behaviours that makes me cringe. I dunno why. Instant ick.

This is the adversarial system that we have, though. She’s playing the game- and doing so well. Is it a great system? No. Does it undermine ordinary voters’ trust in politics? Yes, I think it does - and it certainly undermines the ability for cross party cooperation on issues that matter. But that’s the system we have - and she’s playing her best hand within it. And she does it much better (I think) than the lawerly Starmer, for all his undoubted intelligence and attention to detail.

the80sweregreat · 01/07/2022 18:42

A distant family in law likes winking at people and hugging too ! I hate all that. He is lovely but it's so 70s !!
Luckily my Dh has never winked at me , ever.
I like the winking emoji though strangely enough!

Jellykat · 01/07/2022 18:45

The guy's a slime ball!

sashagabadon · 01/07/2022 18:45

I think AR loves doing PMQ’s and she’s good at it too. She doesn’t need defending by people faux outraged on her behalf. Remember the leg crossing thing, apparently that came from her ( as a joke).
I’d rather watch and listen to AR take on DR or BJ at PMQ’s than KS. It was genuinely funny and entertaining on Wednesday. I bet AR loves that everyone is talking about it

OneFrenchEgg · 01/07/2022 18:46

Eurgh no revolting. Not sexy! What are you on!

MarshaMelrose · 01/07/2022 18:47

the80sweregreat · 01/07/2022 18:19

Oh I'm sure he is intelligent , no doubt about that , but just comes across as if he isn't !
If that makes any sense at all !
Much better read than I am but then he had privileges I could only dream of I suppose.
That's life .

I agree that someone can come across as not very bright but if, as you say, he just drifted lazily through Oxford and Cambridge not working hard, I'd think that was a testament to him being very bright indeed.
I'm not sure what privileges you're dreaming he had. According to Wikipedia his mum was a clothes buyer and his dad, who died when he was 12, was a food manager at M&S, after coming to this country with his parents as refugees. It doesn't sound a particularly privileged upbringing.

the80sweregreat · 01/07/2022 18:50

Fair enough, very bright but not privileged at all.
I stand corrected. Maybe he has more in common with AR than it may appear then!

ShirleyJackson · 01/07/2022 18:50

Just watched it.

Yeah, I see what you mean, OP.

Ah, the old "She loves it really." defence.Hmm

MarshaMelrose · 01/07/2022 18:51

I suspect she likes this back and forward thrust with the Tory posh boys.

Ooo, @Fairyliz, what exactly are you implying? 😳

Yes, I agree. This is why I think they're secretly shagging each other. True love. 🥰

Yes, even state school educated.

Actually on paper he's quite impressive 😆

Justcallmebebes · 01/07/2022 18:57

I get it and I thought AR secretly did too!!

the80sweregreat · 01/07/2022 19:01

Well, she is very pretty and he has that smooth , 'I work out a lot ' look about him, so maybe they are getting it on! I did read she had a liaison / affair with someone once or something? It was in the Mail though and they are not keen on her at all.
Maybe more in common with those conservative boys than we might all think eh?

😉

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 01/07/2022 19:01

Education is not the same as intelligence. One can "work hard" to get a qualification from any university given the right opportunities.

I would be surprised if many Oxford or Cambridge dons agreed with Raab that going to Glyndeborne automatically made you a "champagne socialist". It is the remark of a cultural philistine who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. Not a mark of intellect IMHO.

Momicrone · 01/07/2022 19:02

Sharplilly, where did I say I didn't like winks? Just that one, because of its context and the meaning behind it.

the80sweregreat · 01/07/2022 19:02

I'm impressed he isn't another conservative with immense privileges though.
Makes a change.
