I really like this cut. But is it a bit “young” for a 42 year old woman? My friend said I am too old for a cut like this.

Firm believer in do what you like, who cares about age! You don't want to get really old and look back regretting not doing this or that. I'm nearly 40 and have pink hair xx

None of her business what you do! You want it have it. It sounds like your friend is getting old before her time. You don't need someone else opinion to validate you. Get it done and ignore her.

wellstopdoingitthen · 28/06/2022 18:34

Can’t see anything wrong with it, is your friend jealous?

JaffaCake70 · 28/06/2022 18:40

My 60 year old friend/boss has been told a few times that she shouldn't wear her hair so long at her age (it's shoulder length, lovely and thick and highlighted blonde).

I tell her that her hair is lovely, she suits it, the people who tell her to cut it are all women a similar age to her who are probably envious of her lovely hair, and that she should tell them to mind their own!!!!

You are here but once, do whatever TF you want with your hair!

lifewithelenakatrina · 28/06/2022 18:49

Even if you were 88 ….. get the hair cut, wear what you like
I’m so sick of there being age attached to styles/fashions and sick of the people who think something isn’t appropriate for someone’s age once they are past 22

RuthW · 28/06/2022 18:53

If you want a mullet get a mullet, whatever your age

LondonQueen · 28/06/2022 18:54

Doesn't look particularly "young" to me anyway. I'm sure you will look great with it, don't let age stop you from trying something new.

cherish123 · 28/06/2022 18:56

Looks fine. It's not a particularly young haircut - just an ordinary one. 42 is young.

GuidoTheKillerPimp · 28/06/2022 18:56

Your face shape and the texture of your hair are important in deciding on a cut. Your age and your friend’s opinions are not.

SuperBlondie28 · 28/06/2022 18:57

Life is too short OP.... Ignore your mate... Go for it! The only person you should discuss whether it's do-able with your hair, is your hairdresser 🤔 For instance, I have a widows peak, a fringe which I'd love, just doesn't grow right 😢

Funkyslippers · 28/06/2022 18:59

Most people are saying it's a bob. How is it a bob - I thought bobbed hair was above shoulder length? I can't even see where the hair ends in the pic. As for the fringe, I don't really like it personally. It could also take alot of styling. My DD talked me in to getting curtain bangs and while they looked great in the hairdresser's I'll be damned if I can get them to look anywhere half decent so I gave up

Newbie20 · 28/06/2022 19:01

@BooksnDreams honestly if you like it get it done. You can always grow it back out if you decide you don't like it. At the end of the day it's your hair and you can do what you want with it. You literally only live once. I'm 32, the moment I left home I stopped having a fringe because I hate how it makes me look. All my hair is the same length. I cut it myself and I absolutely love how it looks after I've cut it because it looks all feathery. You do you and rock it.

Musicforsnorks · 28/06/2022 19:02

I was expecting this:

Otherwise, wft, that is a very generic haircut at any age. Consider me nonplussed.

Too old for a plain old bob with a fringe?

Is your friend ok? Confused

SherbertLemonDrop · 28/06/2022 19:10

Looks lovely

She thinks fringes only look nice on younger people. 🤷‍♀️

She’s talking shite!

poetryandwine · 28/06/2022 19:19

If Anna Wintour weren’t enough (and she is), the late great Diana Rigg wore a style similar to this, fringe and all, for the majority of her adult life and specifically into old age. She looked fabulous. Go for it.

fetchacloth · 28/06/2022 19:19

Looks fine to me - my hair was similar in my early 40s but longer

DuchessOfMuck · 28/06/2022 19:22

I think the opposite in that it's a very middle aged haircut and not young at all. It is somewhat frumpy and you would need amazing bone structure to pull it off a la Anna Wintour. Please avoid 🤞

ComfyChairPose · 28/06/2022 19:22

Your friend is BU

IS she afraid to say that you have a big round face,?

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 28/06/2022 19:23

I'm 66, have mid length hair and a fringe!! It covers the deep furrow in between my eyebrows 😁 Is your friend usually jealous of you?

Jack80 · 28/06/2022 19:24

Do it

Thunderrr · 28/06/2022 19:31

40s is not old these days at all and that haircut is fine, flattering even on the old laughter lines.

Sunshine10012 · 28/06/2022 19:48

What does your friend think you should have a short grey perm? Lol
of course it’s a suitable haircut you’re not old!! You’re only 42! Jesus wept!

Butchyrestingface · 27/06/2022 16:51

I have alopecia so I don't have hair. If I did, I'd get it cut and coloured any fucking way I wanted. Go for it. Grin
