To get my hair cut like this at 42 years old?

I really like this cut. But is it a bit “young” for a 42 year old woman? My friend said I am too old for a cut like this.

Lovely face framing cut. Even if it turned out to be the worst mistake in the history of haircuts, who cares? It grows.

I don't see why not - the woman in the photo looks around that age.

That is Ester Expósito, a Spanish actress. She’s 22 now and probably younger in that photo. She’s playing a high school student there, hence the uniform!

The woman in the photo is probably very early 20s!

Fringe can be awful on some people. Lots of people, actually, especially if not cut properly. You may want to rethink it.

I watched a YouTube video with 4 women try fake fringes. They all looked better with a fringe.

I actually think most people are vastly improved with a fringe rather than an expanse of forehead.

Neverendingmindfuck · 27/06/2022 18:22

Its hair, it grows back.
I just had a BIG birthday.
I had the majority of my head shaved recently. Its very freeing.
Go for it, your friend sounds like a fun sponge.

Fernticket · 27/06/2022 18:23

It's not your age that matters with hairstyle, it's the shape of your face.

spanieleyes · 27/06/2022 17:55

I have had a full fringe for the past 50 years with hairstyles of different shapes and lengths , I simply can't imagine NOT having one!

45 years in my case.

BooksnDreams · 27/06/2022 17:48

She thinks fringes only look nice on younger people. 🤷‍♀️

She’s a numpty.

i am nearly 60 and have a fringe because I have a large and knobbly forehead, so try to disguise it.

IMO most women look better with a fringe than without one, which can be a very unforgiving look

TrashyPanda · 27/06/2022 18:27

Back in the day, we called that hairdo “a pageboy”

It's just a generically dull bob with a badly cut fringe. What's age got to do with it?

I agree,it's a bit "I'm bored so had a go with the kitchen scissors" but have whatever you like, haircuts aren't young or old, they are just hair cuts and you either like them or you don't.

Kwiregirl · 27/06/2022 18:29

I'm 42 and have almost same hair style in brunette - I think it looks good and I'm confident with it. Stylish and fairly easy to maintain - go for it.

Roselilly36 · 27/06/2022 18:31

Get your hair done and a new friend OP.

Easilystartled · 27/06/2022 18:32

You’re only being unreasonable for thinking that’s a young hairstyle. It’s totally standard and classic. And very nice, I might add. If you’ve got the kind of hair that will do it, go for it!

noirchatsdeux · 27/06/2022 18:32

I'm 53, nearly 54 and I've had a fringe since I was 5. I'll have it no matter what age I live to, because I have a high forehead and don't like it being exposed, especially in public. The only times I brush my fringe back is when I'm at home or on the beach.

Your friend is an idiot.

catmothertes1 · 27/06/2022 18:33

Get the cut. If it doesn't suit you,it will soon grow back.

shadypines · 27/06/2022 18:34

It's lovely, get it cut how you like, I think your friend should but out and she's talking nonsense.

BruceWaynettaSlob · 27/06/2022 18:36

Bob with curtains. There isn't an age on it.

Put your glasses on

Pifflewiffle · 27/06/2022 18:41

I’m in my 60s and have had a fringe since I was a kid. I look awful with my hair off my face. The only thing to consider is whether a fringe would suit you.

latetothefisting · 27/06/2022 18:42

I had a friend like this, she was adamant that "only schoolgirls" had long hair. Despite sounding like an opinion out of enid blyton she was 20 when she said this and would only be in her mid 30s now. Odd!
Clutching at straws but could your friend maybe have thought the hairstyle just wouldn't suit you and the age thing was her trying to be subtle about it rather than going "meh no your face is too chubby to pull that off" or something?
Whatever, I'd go for it - it's hair, it'll grow back.

Lucy Long Socks · 27/06/2022 18:51

Well I'm 52 with bright red long hair. I don't care. I like it. Do what you like. It's your hair. As far as I'm concerned it's like this. If they love you and you love them, they won't care, as long as you're happy. If you don't love them. Who cares what they think of your hair. In any case. It grows and you can change it, if you don't like it.

SiobhanSharpe · 27/06/2022 18:56

I wonder if your friend thought the fairly young woman in the photo is wearing school uniform, or something like it.
(Blazer and white shirt or blouse? I could well be wrong and that may not be why she advised against it anyway.)
Not that it matters one little bit, it's a fairly standard cut and not limited to the young so feel free to give it a whirl if you want.

TackyTart1 · 27/06/2022 19:02

Do it! I was bored last week and cut a fringe like this on myself! Life’s too short
