Aw man. I own a toilet brush. But it looks like a cherry so it's good at being incognito. No hot tub. Can I still join?

Of course you can join, what's your strong or strongish skills ?

Hawkins001 · 29/06/2022 22:36

These days anyone could be a spook

Today at work I practised my evasion tactics, and managed to not get spotted all day by the person I was avoiding. Tomorrow I will be public facing, so I shall be practicing pretending to be someone who is good at being the centre of attention. I’m a chameleon me… Could be useful maybe?

Those skills are certainly most useful, all the best and keep practicing.

Some homework for everyone to study

"The Moscow Rules is the name for rules said to have been developed by the CIA during the Cold War to be used by spies and others working in Moscow.

The rules are associated with Moscow because the city developed a reputation as being a particularly harsh locale for clandestine operatives who were exposed. The list may never have existed as written; agent Tony Mendez wrote "Although no one had written them down, they were the precepts we all understood ... By the time they got to Moscow, everyone knew these rules. They were dead simple and full of common sense...".

An abbreviated list of the probably-fictional Moscow Rules has circulated around the Internet and in fiction:

Assume nothing.
Murphy is right.
Never go against your gut; it is your operational antenna.
Don't look back; you are never completely alone.
Everyone is potentially under opposition control.
Go with the flow, blend in.
Vary your pattern and stay within your cover.
Any operation can be aborted. If it feels wrong, it is wrong.
Maintain a natural pace.
Lull them into a sense of complacency.
Build in opportunity, but use it sparingly.
Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. (borrowed from Muhammad Ali, aka Cassius Clay.)
Don't harass the opposition.
There is no limit to a human being's ability to rationalize the truth.
Technology will always let you down.
Pick the time and place for action.
Keep your options open.
Once is an accident. Twice is coincidence. Three times is an enemy action. (taken from Ian Fleming's novel Goldfinger)"

Hawkins001. I have read and digested the Moscow rules. Very useful. I’ll put them into practice henceforth

Most excellent, and impressive

I see red bear is meeting with brown fox. Again.
Nobody has any ‘cover’ here because the ‘cover’ such that it ever was is well and truly blown.
Ok so their asset may still be in the field but certain actors aren’t as clever as they think they are.

That's the pickle at times, we may believe our covers are holding , but at the same time, they as you say could be well and truly be pickled, but then again, you peel one cover away, and who's to say it's not just another cover, similar in design to an onion ?

Hawkins001 · 30/06/2022 00:14

As for assets in the field, I try not to act smart, as I'm still learning, but one does wonder how much overconfidence can pickle an agents cover in the field.

Although an intrigue question, if an average, joe, begins to suspect that there is more to themselves, and for some reason their seems a lot of intrigue in the person, and this average Joe came to the conclusion based on them putting together different parts of events they think they have interpreted as being suggestive that there maybe more to themselves than they realise, then what reasons could explain the reasons for the extra attention ?

Caeseavve · 30/06/2022 00:25

Ooh I love a bagel with pastrami / salt beef, turkey, Leerdammer cheese, mayo, yellow mustard & gherkins. Tastes amazing.

I went to a shop today that sold chocolate horses' heads. I nearly bought some for the MNM but then realised it might out us.

Actually I have leerdammer in, can I interest you in a leerdammer and ham on a seeded bagel for lunch Ma'am?

bear repeating - I will study, and teach to my children

Ah, the Moscow Rules.

I see.

In that case, Mornington Crescent. Have I won?

No, and you’re not taking this seriously.

Not as far as I'm aware, how much knowledge do you have about the Moscow rules ?

Most impressive, these days especially concerning industrial espionage all business sectors could use these, as guidance

Minimalme · 30/06/2022 21:39

@stepuporshutup I can neither confirm nor deny anything about your neighbour, except that she is spot on about the black curtains...

@Hawkins001 I have read the rules and think my role should be practical rather than cerebral. I'm basically strong and physically capable (if you overlook the decrepit hip issue) but thick. Very thick.

In addition to my part time, flexible working and term time only mafia employment, I will not be able to take a front line role because I am easily frightened and given to panic.

Just wanted to say - good work folks, we are really starting to work as a crack pot team.

@Hawkins001 you are a natural leader - when will we have our first away day?

Onthedunes · 30/06/2022 22:23

I'm in if the theme tune's right.

Got to have a theme tune.

I read this as "theme tuna"

The possibilities are endless. Greek themed: tuna with olives and feta stuffed in grape leaves.

I'd suggest an office based or where ever their is an internet connection, supporting assets in the field,

thank you for the leader compliment, however I'm only as effective as long as I have a good team to help guide, and a team that can help to improve my skills, without a team, I'm as useful as something, but my point is, me and the team, hopefully makes a good team.

as for our first day out, I'm thinking bit of history and going to london, getting our selfies outside of mi5/mi6/ then a general catchup so to speak.
