To think this bedding doesn't go in my bedroom?

liftitlikeitshot · 25/06/2022 15:07

Spent a lot of money on new bedding as pictured (navy cushions haven't been added yet). I thought a yellow and navy theme for the bedroom but now I've set it all up I'm thinking I've made a mistake. Husband thinks it's fine.

AIBU to think this doesn't go at all?

The bedding is lovely, as is the wallpaper. The issue is the different patterns on each. It would possibly be better to have a solid colour on the wall with that bedding, or solid colour bedding with patterned wallpaper.

liftitlikeitshot · 25/06/2022 20:20

Thank you all for your input. Not quite sure what I'm doing. The bedding is 100 percent non refundable once out of packet and I really do love it. I also love my wallpaper and my curtains and my lamps and my little mirror that somebody told me to take down.

However, I am useless at these things and sometimes what I picture in my head is not how things turn out. I don't want it to bug me. Once I'm home I'm going to see about covering more of it with the navy bed spread and see how that looks.

Worst comes to worst I will just leave it as is as like people have said, it's our bedroom.

Ha no I didnt know the cushions were intentionally like that - but suspected they were hence asking!!! I dont want tik toks or "content creators" so not come across it. If you took a photo of my room currently it wouldn't look perfect so wasnt a criticism - just genuinely curious.

I'm still not sure why they'vebeen squashed? When I saw the picture as I said I thought the bedding was nice but my eyes were drawn to the cushions as they looked odd and I wanted to give them a good shake. Ive stayed in a few hotels and not seen it. Not sure Ive seen any other pillows!

I wasn't meaning you personally, there's been quite a few comment lately about it. I'm not sure why you put content creators in quotes? People who make videos for whatever platform call themselves that, it covers everything fro true crime podcast to knitting tutorials or cooking channels be it on YouTube or Instagram or whatever . I watch more YouTube documentaries than I do tv shows and see the cushions in the sofa in the background and I've seen someone put cushions back in the sofa after the dog had knocked them off and they put the dip in, just general stuff like that I notice it on, I guess it's for aesthetics, similar to how people empty their washing powder or fabric conditioner, shampoo etc into clear jars and bottles with cursive stickers on. Just because they like how it looks.

LifeInsideMyhead · 25/06/2022 20:25

I think Op if you like it then its great. None of my rooms look finished and we are very mix and match in style!

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 25/06/2022 20:29

Honestly OP, I think you've had a few shitty answers on here and I've looked at your photos and and thought " how comforting."

I can't abide stylised rooms that adhere to the latest fads.

Your room is reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Natural patterns being welcoming and calming.

Please don't be guided by Instagram/Pinterest followers.

It's your haven.

Allnostalgic · 25/06/2022 20:33

@liftitlikeitshot I know I'm the lone voice but seriously. Who cares if the patterns clash? You did ask for opinions but ultimately it's your bedroom.

I always think that some of the loveliest homes are the ones filled with things that the owner genuinely really likes. Your bedroom is filled with beautiful things that you've chosen.

If I posted a photo of my bedroom on here I'd get hundreds of replies saying it's too plain because it's all neutral.

TwentyOneTwentyTwo · 25/06/2022 20:46

I think it's that the white (cold) and yellow (warm) are competing as background colours. You could dye the linen if you were feeling adventurous? If it had a warmer background colour it wouldn't feel out of place anymore. I don't think it's too much pattern or clashing patterns, your lamp looks fitting because it has a warm background colour. I like the yellow and blue theme you have, uplifting but relaxing.

PutTheFruitInMyBellender · 25/06/2022 20:48

OP, as I've said on another thread, the thing that matters is that you love it. Or even just like it. If you like the bedding and like the wallpaper, then they are fine together. I personally can't stand things that are all matchy - it would be like living inside an Argos catalogue. If I posted a picture of my bedroom, half of MN would die of shock because nothing matches anything but it all looks great (to me).

Crikeyalmighty · 25/06/2022 21:02

Each bit in its own right is nice but all together it's a bit busy

liftitlikeitshot · 25/06/2022 21:10

Sorry everyone, this is what I've decided to go with. I tried it with the navy bed spread but found it too boring. Just didn't like it at all.

Honestly op don’t apologise, no one really cares what your bedroom looks like and as long as you like it that’s all that matters.

TabithaTittlemouse · 25/06/2022 21:38

I like it. It’s bold and brave! Go big!

LifeInsideMyhead · 25/06/2022 21:51

I rather like it. And its far tidier than my house! Is the blue stripe a folded blanket?

Thank you. Oh please trust me it's not always like that 🤣 it's a folded bed spread! Got from £100 down to £50 so chuffed with that saving.

I really like it and how it and the cushions bring it all alive. I quite like all the patterns. As i didnt know about pillows Im obviously not an arbiter of style but i think its much more interesting than the very pale alternative someone posted.

Goldduck · 25/06/2022 22:10

I would just go for white bedding with some accent pillows that match your colour scheme 😊

Kite22 · 25/06/2022 22:13

It's seems to be the aim of lots of MNers, nothing gives them greater pleasure than having a dig .

But that isn't what has happened in any way, shape or form.
A person posted a photo of their bedroom , and said themselves that they think it doesn't go.
They have literally started a thread to ask what other people think.

Now several have said - surely it only matters what her and her dp think as presumably she isn't doing guided tours, but mostly, the OP has asked for opinions, so people have given them. Having an opinion on something you have been asked about does not equal "having a dig" Confused

There's a kind way of saying things though isn't there?

I don’t think anyone has been particularly unkind tbh, people have responded with honesty to your question.

Wisteriaroundthedoor · 25/06/2022 22:36

well yes, but to be honest if you were all sensitive about it and just wanted people to say it was nice instead Of being honest about what they thought you shouldn’t have asked.

it’s your bedroom, you can do as many different colours and clashing busy prints as you want, all that matters is you and your husband like it. You’re hardly about to be on grand designs any time soon. It’s just some bedding. Don’t stress it 🤯

Want2beme · 25/06/2022 22:46

I really like the use of yellow. What about introducingsome yellow onto the bed?

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 25/06/2022 22:53

I really like the wallpaper and think it works with the curtains as the tones are the same and I also think checks and florals together are a bit of a country classic.
I also like the bedding but think the white is too harsh against the soft colours of the wallpaper.
I would change the bedding to something like this lovely blue linen set from H & M and add maybe a neutral throw and some plain cushions and light shades.
