To think this bedding doesn't go in my bedroom?

Spent a lot of money on new bedding as pictured (navy cushions haven't been added yet). I thought a yellow and navy theme for the bedroom but now I've set it all up I'm thinking I've made a mistake. Husband thinks it's fine.

AIBU to think this doesn't go at all?

The patterns on the wall and bedding clash, both nice separately.

DuarPorte · 25/06/2022 18:16

The room looks out of Fawlty Towers I’m afraid. It has a B&B from the 1970s look about it that’s being created by having that wallpaper particularly in such a small space. Yes of course adding more pattern in more stark colours in said space doesn’t work. But it isn’t just the bedding. If it was a room with plain white walls or even the MN derided gray walls - that bedding as the only dollop of pattern/colour would work fine.

ThreeRingCircus · 25/06/2022 18:16

This is what I mean OP. That's not necessarily the right colour as I just did it in 30 seconds in my phone but I think some plain bedding in a complementing colour would work better. Then you could add cushions that tie in with either the wallpaper or curtains.

You either need a white bedspread if you love the walls or to paint the wallpaper white if you love the bedding.

But stop doing that weird thing to the pillows. It looks silly.

TheThreadisMildlyAmusing · 25/06/2022 18:23

That many patterns and colours in such small room would give me a migraine. I like my bedroom to be calm and restful. Sorry Op, but you did ask

catfunk · 25/06/2022 18:24

No, it's too much with the checked curtains and floral walllpaper (but at least they tie in together, colour wise)

LairyMcClairy · 25/06/2022 18:24

crackersforcrackers · 25/06/2022 17:54

Don't listen to the catty people OP! Mum is an interior designer and says you could have a couple of cushions made (or make yourself) of the wallpaper pattern to have on the bed to tie it in. Also perhaps changing the runner/blanket at the end to match the wallpaper. Its quite a small room so a mirror may do wonders to the space above the headboard or on the wall facing the window. But at the end of the day if you like it how it is then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks Flowers

Definitely don’t add more wall paper into the mix- there’s too much already 😂

SwedishEdith · 25/06/2022 18:25

Clashing patterns are quite fashionable/topical atm though😉but they need to be bolder to work, I think. Look more deliberate and have a colour theme running through them.

BetsyBigNose · 25/06/2022 18:25

I agree it's too much pattern. I really like your wallpaper, so I think I'd change the bedding. I'd probably pick out a grey from the wallpaper that tones in with one from the curtains and go for that for the duvet set - but I wouldn't let a karateka make my bed! Wink

InFiveMins · 25/06/2022 18:25

I think the colours match but there's just too much pattern going on and that's what makes it look 'wrong'. It's a lovely bedding set otherwise.

Still laughing at the 'karate chop pillows' comment.

Acunningruse · 25/06/2022 18:27

Beautiful bedding but too much going on

Derbee · 25/06/2022 18:30

I think it’s ok. It clashes, because it’s hard having so many patterns (bedding, wall, curtains) in such a small room. But if you like everything individually, who cares? It’s only you two that sleep there

Pattern on pattern is incredibly difficult to make work. Checks & Florals also a bad combination together.

I am pretty minimalist but disagree that checks and florals don't go. Mixing patterns requires a tight colour palette but different scales and patterns. So the OP has 2 large florals in the room and no yellow on the bed. A smaller floral on the duvet might work but you've already got that in the lamp so probably a geometric design, but you'd have to think about the scale because of the checked curtains, it would need to either be much bigger or much smaller than the check on the curtains. I'd add some yellow, either on a duvet cover or a small cushion or some yellow stitching on that navy throw (or a new yellow throw). Or you could go plain duvet with just a small geometric border.

Having said all that it's your bedroom so if you like it keep it and if you're not sure either return it now or rearrange that throw to cover more of the duvet, and put the navy pillows at the front.

SunshineAndFizz · 25/06/2022 18:36

No. No it doesn't go.

This thread is pretty fascinating showing how everyone has different opinions Grin People saying they hate the wallpaper/love the wallpaper/get white bedding/definitely not white bedding/change everything to neutral/keep the pattern clash etc! The world would definitely be boring if we all thought the same aha

Alwayswonderedwhy · 25/06/2022 18:40

There's a lot going on in what looks like a very small room. Plain bedding and curtains would be better with the pattered wallpaper. The colour combination is fine.

pictish · 25/06/2022 18:41

The wallpaper and bedding don’t compliment each other. They seem unrelated. It doesn’t matter a fig of course but if you’re asking.

Allnostalgic · 25/06/2022 18:42

I'm in the minority that I think it's fine op. I quite like it.

Patterns aren't really my cup of tea I prefer plain things, but the mustard and navy go well together. I love your curtains.

There are a few mean and picky replies here. It's all down to personal taste and plenty of people would love to have a bedroom like yours op.

Allnostalgic · 25/06/2022 18:44

I presume that people are taking the piss asking what's happened to your pillows. The cushion chop is fashionable.

Hadtochangeitforthis · 25/06/2022 18:45

Too much floral but the colours go, please don’t do that to your pillows though 😩

Stravaig · 25/06/2022 18:45

Have the pillows not just been sat on by cats?

beachcitygirl · 25/06/2022 18:45

Lovely bedding. But doesn't go at all. Much too busy!

PinkSyCo · 25/06/2022 18:45

Yeah far too many clashing patterns with nothing tying in colour wise. Saying that no one else is going to see your bedroom so I would just carry on using the expensive bedding because I’m poor tight.

LadyHooHa · 25/06/2022 18:46

I see am by no means the only person wondering wtf is going on with the pillows.

OP, the bedding and wallpaper don't really match - but I would think that was a very good thing as I am right at the other end of the 'everything matching' spectrum. Absolutely nothing matches anything in my house.
