To think this bedding doesn't go in my bedroom?

Spent a lot of money on new bedding as pictured (navy cushions haven't been added yet). I thought a yellow and navy theme for the bedroom but now I've set it all up I'm thinking I've made a mistake. Husband thinks it's fine.

AIBU to think this doesn't go at all?

I like it best with the bedspread but it’s a shame to cover the duvet cover if you like it. The only things that matters here is that when you go into the room, you are happy with how it looks. Even though there are lots of books, videos, designers telling us what’s ‘right’ or what’s in fashion, it absolutely doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. Only if you are selling a house do you perhaps need to make things look more neutral.

Marvellousmadness · 26/06/2022 12:57

It's a bit grandma for me. But it looks good.

catandcoffee · 26/06/2022 13:02

it's very retro 😎
look up 70s style ,it was all mismatched wallpaper, carpets, settee. as long as you love it.... don't worry about anyones opinion.

JaninaDuszejko · 26/06/2022 13:50

I like the yellow cushion and the navy pillows at the front but not sure i prefer all the duvet covered with the throw (yes, I know I suggested it).

What is the pattern on the underside of the duvet like? You could try it upside down but that might just feel like a waste of a pretty duvet. Or you could have the throw covering the bottom half of the bed but showing more of the pattern than we can currently see. Then the wall and duvet will fight less because there's less duvet than wall visible.

I think most people have tried to be helpful but the comments from some about the pillows were unnecessary and unpleasant. It's a look that's very popular at the moment.

I think you’re just trying to hide it now. You can’t return it, it is what it is, I’m sure you’ve more than one set of bed linen. Its clean and functional, don’t give it more thought. Just use it and stop worrying, what does your other set look like? Do you only have one bedroom, other wise you can also use it in another room.

for that bedroom I’d have done something like this set from John Lewis in storm. it’s lovely in real life , and it would pick out the grey in the wallpaper, curtains and lamp.

i think you need something plain as you’ve so many different patterns in there already and it’s a small room. Alternatively I’d have done plain white bedding with the yellow cushions.

either just put up with it or use it elsewhere really.

I think I prefer it with the pattern than the plain blue!

StripeyDeckchair · 26/06/2022 14:26

It's not the colours it's the patterns - too many patterns.

WitchWithoutChips · 26/06/2022 14:53

It looks like you have a blind at the window. If those are just stunt curtains then I would take them down. The room will feel bigger and less busy with one fewer print.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/06/2022 14:54

That's a lot better. The pattern on the wall looked green in the first photo but blue in the second one which helps - I guess some trick of the light, hopefully the latter is more realistic.
I'd probably want to change the curtains and lampshade for something plainer if possible.

chesirecat99 · 26/06/2022 15:01

If you like it, that's all that matters.

I don't think the palette/tones really work. You are putting bold/strong colours with muted colours. I think you need a cream or ivory, not a brilliant white, and a muted colour instead of the navy. If you want clashing floral prints, the palette needs to be similar.

FatCatSkinnyRat · 26/06/2022 15:03

I like the middle pics of the three better, OP. If you like it, just roll with it. How many people see your bedroom anyway? If I was going to do anything I would replace the lampshades with plain navy to pull it all together.

Just remember, most people have terrible taste - when put against our own!

HaveringWavering · 26/06/2022 15:07

I think it looks really boring with the throw pulled all the way over the bed. Just ditch the checked curtains so you don’t have 3 patters and embrace the pattern clashing. It’s cool.

OvernightBloats · 26/06/2022 15:47

Don't apologise if you like it. Nothing worse than decor which is just copying fashion with no individual style. You do you!

Here is a picture of the my bed - lots of clashing patterns which I love.

OP I really like the bedding and the pillows Grin

Husband thinks it's fine

I don't think there's a husband this side of Christendom who gives a monkey's about bedding! They're totally clueless about bedroom decor. Mine is only just about used to the scatter cushions on the bed, the thought of getting him to have any reaction to karate chopped pillows would be an uphill battle!

PurpleNebula84 · 26/06/2022 21:05

Who's going to see your bedroom? Keep it for now and look for something else you think works better - no rush - it's just for sleeping in.

Friars23 · 26/06/2022 21:37

I really like the wallpaper and the curtains, but I am someone who doesn’t like too much pattern, so would choose plain mustard or grey bedding

Friars23 · 26/06/2022 21:40

To add, I also like the suggestion of cream bedding, as agree the white doesn’t fit with the other soft colours in the room.

speakout · 27/06/2022 06:53

I love the wallpaper, but think other elements need to be toned down. I would change the headboard to an oatmeal or cream colour, plain off white bedding, lampshade and curtains,
One pattern is enough in a room, the wallpaper is busy enough, and having a check and different pattern and duvet is too much.
You can pick up the accent colour in the wallpaper with a throw or similar for the bed- hard to see if that is green or blue.

Want2beme · 28/06/2022 15:49

Looks great, OP. Huge fan of yellow and of dark blue.
