To think this bedding doesn't go in my bedroom?

Spent a lot of money on new bedding as pictured (navy cushions haven't been added yet). I thought a yellow and navy theme for the bedroom but now I've set it all up I'm thinking I've made a mistake. Husband thinks it's fine.

AIBU to think this doesn't go at all?

Yeah it's too busy with all those patterns. Plain bedding in a toning colour and maybe plain curtains

Crankley · 25/06/2022 18:47

It's bedding, you sleep in it in the dark.

pictish · 25/06/2022 18:49

What’s your point?

Sally090807 · 25/06/2022 18:50

Patterned lamp shades, bedding and wallpaper, it’s all too busy

Fingeronthebutton · 25/06/2022 18:51

Def the clashing patterns. I’ve just done mine in similar colours.

bronzepig · 25/06/2022 18:51

liftitlikeitshot · 25/06/2022 15:27

That's not very kind.

It's a nice room @ErrolTheDragon , just needs some tweaks.

Make the patterned wall the feature of the room.

Navy bedspread would look grand, but would need to be plain. And if you can replace the curtains and that's another different pattern - could do same plain navy as the bedspread.

Chocoqueen · 25/06/2022 18:52

Do you like the wallpaper?
Do you like the bedding?

If the answer is yes to both the above questions then it's fine. I mean does it really matter if it 'goes'? It's not like it's a showroom, it's your bedroom. A room for you and DH. If you (and he) like it then it's fine. Honestly no one else's opinion matters.

goodmorningcampers · 25/06/2022 18:57

Agree with previous poster there are some mean replies here . I like the curtains but I think your instinct is right OP, the overall look with the bedding does not go. Can you afford to bite the bullet and buy some plain bedding. Your DH sounds like mine , he wouldn't have a clue .

I presume that people are taking the piss asking what's happened to your pillows. The cushion chop is fashionable.

I see it all over the Internet at the moment on channels that centre home decor content and am surprised that so many people haven't come across it and didn't realise it's a popular trend.

I don't even follow home decor and don't understand fuck all about what works together and I've seen all over in the backgrounds of content creators homes also a popular craft magazine just switched to home style magazine and the last two issues (I subscribed when it was a craft magazine) have been full of colourful clashing colours and prints and have seen lots of DIY tik toks of bright yellows with others bright colours.

I saw a bright green door with pink edges and a bright blue frame earlier and it looked fun.

diddl · 25/06/2022 19:07

Well you think that it doesn't go Op, so really it's a question of do you love the bedding enough to change the room?

Personally I'd keep the wallpaper & curtains & change the bedding & probably the lamps.

Ludo19 · 25/06/2022 19:12

I like the paper and your curtains but the duvet cover makes it a wee bit busy but I do love your colour choices OP.

LifeInsideMyhead · 25/06/2022 19:27

Ha no I didnt know the cushions were intentionally like that - but suspected they were hence asking!!! I dont want tik toks or "content creators" so not come across it. If you took a photo of my room currently it wouldn't look perfect so wasnt a criticism - just genuinely curious.

I'm still not sure why they'vebeen squashed? When I saw the picture as I said I thought the bedding was nice but my eyes were drawn to the cushions as they looked odd and I wanted to give them a good shake. Ive stayed in a few hotels and not seen it. Not sure Ive seen any other pillows!

AllHailKingLouis · 25/06/2022 19:32

Christ, the next time I need honest opinions on my decor I’m going to post here!! You guys are brutal! 😂😂 I love it. Nothing worse than posting for an opinion just to receive “looks lovely hun” 🙄

to answer the OP, the room is tiny, busy and tiny don’t go. I won’t mention the karate chop pillows as you’ve already been told it looks daft ☺️

Sleepyquest · 25/06/2022 19:37

Too many patterns
Check curtains
Floral wallpaper
Floral lamps
Floral bedding

I like all your items, just not together! Get some plain bedding 😊 the wallpaper is lovely

Plantstrees · 25/06/2022 19:37

The problem is not the navy, its the white. If you had a navy with a warm cream or mustard pattern it would be fine. The white is cold against the walls and so doesn't work. The modern trend is to layer patterns but there needs to be a link between the colours.

2000lightyearsaway123 · 25/06/2022 19:38

Hi OP,

I agree with some others. Love the colour scheme but just too many patterns. But the most important thing is you like it and feel comfortable.

Underroad · 25/06/2022 19:44

The patterns don’t work together. The wallpaper is a soft, vintage style and the bedding is a modern floral. It creates visual disharmony.

daisychain01 · 25/06/2022 19:44

ThreeRingCircus · 25/06/2022 18:16

This is what I mean OP. That's not necessarily the right colour as I just did it in 30 seconds in my phone but I think some plain bedding in a complementing colour would work better. Then you could add cushions that tie in with either the wallpaper or curtains.

Personally, I think that's too much yellow in one small room. It makes it quite sickly sweet..

I'd change the "feature wall" at the back to a solid blue (either paint over it, or if you're a fussy one like me, strip off the wallpaper, hang some lining paper and a good quality paint like Crown) and add a nice complementary blue toned piece of wall art. Here's the sort of design - this is a living room but equally good in a bedroom:

Dark blue paint and wall art

gjatage · 25/06/2022 19:59

the navy works it's the white with the cream

gjatage · 25/06/2022 20:00

and yes lots of patterns can work but it's a
modern & traditional

gjatage · 25/06/2022 20:02

The cushion chop is fashionable.

still? hasn't it been around since the 80s

Greengagesnfennel · 25/06/2022 20:04

Colours are great and wallpaper and curtains really go. As does the navy bed throw/runner. Only issue is the over busy duvet cover. It is a nice duvet but too busy a pattern next to the wallpaper.

LifeInsideMyhead · 25/06/2022 20:04

Ha! I've been around since the 80s and have literally never seen it as a thing....

There is lots I don't know!

IncompleteSenten · 25/06/2022 20:09

I think the colours are ok but there are too many different patterns.

Cherrysherbet · 25/06/2022 20:14

I went with plain walls, and a patterned duvet.
I think a feature wall behind the bed is difficult to match bedding to.

It’s an easy fix though. Just swap to plain duvet.
I like all your choices individually, but together it’s a bit busy.
