To think this bedding doesn't go in my bedroom?

Spent a lot of money on new bedding as pictured (navy cushions haven't been added yet). I thought a yellow and navy theme for the bedroom but now I've set it all up I'm thinking I've made a mistake. Husband thinks it's fine.

AIBU to think this doesn't go at all?

It doesn't go.

‘Karate chop pillows’ 🤣

It's a thing apparently! I prefer mine square and plumped.

Nanny0gg · 25/06/2022 15:53

Do you want an honest opinion on here?

Why if you have yellow/green/white botanical patterned wallpaper and yellow/green check curtains would you introduce blue/navy/white bedding? Way too many colours and patterns that don't relate to each other.
Your curtains did at least relate to the walls but the bedding doesn't relate to anything.

So sorry, no it doesn't go (I do quite like the bedding though - just sort out those pillows!)

Wisteriaroundthedoor · 25/06/2022 15:55

It’s all the different patterns that doesn’t work. You need plain bedding, it’s all very busy, you should have picked a colour from the walllpaper or gone for plain white. No it doesn’t look good . You are right.

Wisteriaroundthedoor · 25/06/2022 15:57

And I agree you’ve taken the mrs hinch karate chop too far, the pillows look a bit mad 😃

SneezesHaveStarted · 25/06/2022 15:59

I actually love the wallpaper! And I quite like it with the lamp and the checked curtains too, as they all have similar colours. I don’t really understand why you would decide to have yellow and navy but then include no navy at all apart from the bedding - if you wanted navy in it it would be better to have a yellow/navy wallpaper etc. I think bedding in mustard/tan/grey shades would look nicer (and also agree unpatterned would be better). But since you already have it I’d keep the duvet cover as your spare one and get another that matches better as your main one?!

As everyone has said it’s the multiple patterns. If the bedding was fully white or navy i think it would be fine - I would probably have gone dark green though rather than adding blue.

Mangledrake · 25/06/2022 16:04

It's just the bedding - the rest is great. Everything else is in warm, complementary colours. Bedding is in ice cold colours but busy, so not even just a cool spot in the middle.

You just need new duvet cover and pillow cases. Go with plain, off white, dull sage green, muted yellow. No major problem.

CityCommuter · 25/06/2022 16:05

@liftitlikeitshot the bedding is nice but it all looks a bit busy tbh! Also what's with the karate chop pillows, it looks like someone got into an angry mood after making the bed😂Not very relaxing.. e.g if you're in a new relationship it might frighten a new DP if he steps out of line, he'll know what might happen to him!

liftitlikeitshot · 25/06/2022 15:27

That's not very kind.

I agree with the PP

come on op. You post pics of your room asking for style advice re bedding and decoration.

so should totally accept opinion on the decoration and not just the bedding

SheWoreYellow · 25/06/2022 16:07

I think you can get away with the bedding and the wallpaper as there is a similar leaf in blue. But the curtains as well are just too much.

AbsoluteYawns · 25/06/2022 16:12

Each thing alone is nice but all together; sorry OP, it looks like a mess of colours and florals.

jetadore · 25/06/2022 16:14

Doesn’t match, but my pillowcases usually don’t even match my duvet cover (not a euphemism) let alone the wallpaper because nobody’s gonna see them and who really gives a fuck even if they do?
But, Christ that’s a small room.

I agree with Errol too.

Thing is OP, you have posted photos of your bedroom asking the world to confirm your own opinion that the look doesn't work.

Now, I'm inclined to think - well, what does it matter - who are you showing your bedroom too? But, you asked us all to comment.

My opinion is the same as Errol's - the quitl cover and pillow cases are nice, but it is all too overwhelming with the clashing wall and curtains.

Don't ask if you don't want people to say.

Davros · 25/06/2022 16:16

My top house keeping tip - get a nice bedspread. You can use any old shit, busy bedding under there.
I like your wallpaper

Charlize43 · 25/06/2022 16:18

Would you consider painting the walls pale blue or white?

Pattern on pattern is incredibly difficult to make work. Checks & Florals also a bad combination together.

BrutusMcDogface · 25/06/2022 16:18

The curtains go beautifully with the wallpaper as they are both the same shades. The bedding clashes so maybe a plain duvet cover in a colour picked out from the curtains or wallpaper would work better.

it is your room, though! Ours is always mismatched as per a pp. maybe we should give more of a crap but we don’t.

and people are being very unkind about your pillows.

Invisibella · 25/06/2022 16:18

It’s an awful combination. Way too many floral patterns. And add a check pattern to that. I have to ask what on earth have you done to your pillows..?

MadMadMadamMim · 25/06/2022 16:18

I agree about the 'too much pattern'. I found myself singing, A busy bee, I'm a busy bee - a busy, busy bee!

And I just know that I'd be singing that loudly and cheerily as I got into bed every single night. Not conducive to calm sleep...

BiFoldChampion · 25/06/2022 16:21

Few too many pattern’s OP. I can see why you thought the navy would go. It’s quite hard when you have wallpaper that’s very patterned and then check curtain to throw more pattern in. You need plain bedding perhaps pick a colour of of the curtains/wallpaper

ShinyS1 · 25/06/2022 16:23

I don't get the pillow hate, still just pillows, loads of people do that!

I like the curtains and wallpaper, they work imho. The navy bedding doesn't really work, the colour and pattern is too much in combination with the wallpaper and curtains. I would go with maybe a restful pale sage, with minimal pattern, or plain.

diddl · 25/06/2022 16:26

I agree that the bedding doesn't go.

I love the curtains & wallpaper but would have had plain lamps & bedding.

ShinyS1 · 25/06/2022 16:27

And a pale lemon throw.

Jessbow · 25/06/2022 16:29

Plaid AND two different flowers is the problem, not The mustard & Navy
