To be totally gutted for American women?

The US Supreme Court has reversed the Roe v Wade ruling. Millions of American women have lost their right to make decisions about what happens to their own bodies. Sad

I have never had an abortion and personally, I'm not sure if I ever could, but I have always been passionately of the view that individual women should be able to make that choice for themselves. It's awful that this right has been removed for so many.

Awful. Women will die because of this ruling

Pallisers · 24/06/2022 15:33

I have no words. I live in the US.

purpleboy · 24/06/2022 15:33

Cameleongirl · 24/06/2022 15:31

I live in the US and am equally horrified. The only positive I take from this mess is that the final decision on whether to ban abortions is made at the state level, so many states will still allow them. Where I live, for example, will definitely continue to allow them.

It’s the women in the so-called “Red” states who are going to suffer. ☹️

Sky news just reported 25 out of 50 states will be banning it, 13 have already implemented the ban as of now. That's over half the county that can't access abortion.
It's a fucking disgrace.

RevoltingHumanHead · 24/06/2022 15:33

American women should fucking riot.

YouSetTheTone · 24/06/2022 15:34

*a woman not 'a women'.
So angry i couldn't type straight...

BarryStir · 24/06/2022 15:35

I honestly don’t know what to say. A dark day.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 24/06/2022 15:35

The land of the free.

If you are a man.

BlankaBanka · 24/06/2022 15:35

I felt sick reading this. I’m horrified and furious. 36 million women!!

BlusteryLake · 24/06/2022 15:36

I trust their is equally stringent legislation to ensure that the men who have washed their hands of these pregnancies will be paying proper support. Funnily enough I haven't seen it yet......

Same
I knew it was a risk but I didn't actually think it would happen.

1nsertusername · 24/06/2022 15:36

I'm sickened for all women in the USA,and the women who's countries will now follow the USA lead. Wtf is happening!!!

Of course all those who voted for this will still pay for their daughters and mistresses to get abortions Mexico or wherever!!

I'm so angry and wish I could do something

Cameleongirl · 24/06/2022 15:36

@purpleboy I’m hopeful that the states that continue to allow abortions will allow women from other states to access them. But let’s see.

A lot of women say there not against abortion , and always like to add ‘I’ve never had one ‘ or ‘not sure I could ever have one’.
why is the need to add this to your posts ?
Ive seen it so many times on mumsnet.

Well said. Totally agree.

Sirzy · 24/06/2022 15:38

Absolutely shocking. Women should have the freedom to make the choice for themselves and then receive safe, legal treatment.

this is a massive backward step

IdaFlowers · 24/06/2022 15:38

Dangerous back street abortions here we come! Before abortions were legal in the UK rich women were able to pay for abortions under the guise of another procedure. Poor women just had to risk their life with a back street one. They won't stop, they'll just stop being safe for poorer women

AmIAJoke · 24/06/2022 15:39

Absolutely horrifying, and yet not surprising.
We can never be complacent either. Where the US goes the UK follows.

dreamingbohemian · 24/06/2022 15:39

I'm American, although I live in the UK (thank god) I can't decide whether to cry or scream. It's so fucking enraging.

If I was back home I'd be going to the barricades, I don't know what I can do from here.

The Democrats need to fucking get off their asses and do something about this fascist court.

Tbf, they are stricter there than the UK. A man can go to jail or not receive a driver's licence for not paying child support. It's a felony in some states.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 24/06/2022 15:39

I presume women who can afford to or who are helped through donations will visit clinics in Mexico, Central and South America, Canada and the Caribbean.

The rest will face god knows what. Kitchen table butchery, sepsis, forced births, poverty and destitution.

What a shithole the USA has become.

MissMarpleRocks · 24/06/2022 15:40

Disgusted at this. No words. No words.

GoldenEclipse · 24/06/2022 15:40

Horrifying decision. Not just losing the freedom of choice to have an abortion (for personal choice or medical reasons) but not having surgery for an ectopic pregnancy. This is putting womens lives at risk.

Also drs will be at risk of losing their licenses for treating this women.

AclowncalledAlice · 24/06/2022 15:40

America is seriously fucked up. Can't have an abortion, but can buy a gun to kill schoolkids.

1nsertusername · 24/06/2022 15:40

Will this mean women will be arrested for travelling across state lines to have abortions?

I just cant get over this! I lived in South America in Catholic countries, which now give more rights to women that the USA. Any civilised society recognises that access to safe abortions is the right thing to do or women die and/or babies die. It's as simple as that.

My heart goes out to all the women in the USA right now.
