Besides all that, the referendum was six years ago. I don't dwell on it these days, nor do I think a person's choice that day defines them forevermore.

Lynch recently reiterated his continuing support for Brexit.

WanderingFruitWonderer · 03/07/2022 17:12

@ILoveAllRainbowsx yes, in my experience (and logically) there are nice and not-so-nice people who voted both ways in the referendum. I take as I find Smile

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 03/07/2022 17:18

@WanderingFruitWonderer

Yes. Well, if 52% of the people who voted in the referendum were really racist, then we would have had an extreme right government by now just like in some EU countries.

Marine Le Pen won around 90 seats in the last French election. No extreme right wing party has never come anywhere close to winning a seat in the UK.

HRTQueen · 03/07/2022 17:20

Surprised he is so respected on here considering how others who have voted for Brexit and were vocal about that are not

How easy it is to turn the other way when it suits

He is able to stand his ground calmly he isn’t someone I agree with on all that he has said

Well, obviously, all the Mick Lynch lovers on here adore racist idiots.

Who would have thought it?

Well, to be honest, the current government is still far too far to the right for me. I was a Jeremy Corbyn supporter, and voted Green in the last council elections.
Clearly there were some far right racists in the Brexit camp. But, also a significant number on the left, and probably everything in between. Also, a significant right-wing faction (rabid capitalists) on the remain side too. It was complicated, and I know I wasn't the only leftie who felt somewhat conflicted at the time. I voted remain in the end, really as the lesser of two evils, as I saw it at the time. But, I understand that others (including Mick Lynch) came to a different conclusion, and it wouldn't occur to me to think less of them because of it...

There is a thread about single-sex lavatories on the Feminism board:

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4582125-single-sex-lavatories-to-be-mandatory-in-all-new-public-buildings?reply=118295918

Does it bother you that if Labour or the Lib Dems are in power, that women's basic rights will be eroded?

I would imagine that if the late great Tony Benn was still with us, he would think the same. I wouldn't have to agree with him on that point to still think he was a wonderful human being...

To be honest, I don't know much about it. I'm strongly in favour of preserving single sex loos for women. I actually would vote for The Green Party currently. I'm not sure what their position on the issue is.

@WanderingFruitWonderer

They are even worse than Labour and Lib Dems when it comes to women's rights.

Will you still vote Green?

If there was a general election tomorrow, I would almost certainly vote Green, yes. I don't know about their position on the issues you raise. I'll look into it. No political party will ever tick every box for anyone. There are a multitude of issues. I think for me, overall, in its current form, The Green Party ticks the most boxes. Climate change is possibly my biggest concern these days. As well as peace and avoiding war. Also, protection of the NHS and a number of other issues. I'm obviously totally respectful of your right, and everyone's, to put your cross next to whichever candidate you feel is best for you.
Caroline Lucas and Natalie Bennett are women, so The Green Party has a good track record in that regard...

If the Greens get anywhere near power (in a hung parliament) women's rights will be stuffed @WanderingFruitWonderer I agree with @ILoveAllRainbowsx entirely. The Greens are for self ID which means any man will be able to take himself in any women's spaces and both the Greens and Lib Dems are being sued by women who have been pushed out for speaking out about this. So they are very far from being progressive parties anymore. See here:

ovarit.com/o/Activism/43816/update-to-natalie-bird-s-crowdjustice-pursing-legal-redress-from-the-libdems

ovarit.com/o/Activism/68266/complaint-of-discrimation-against-the-green-party-england-and-wales-over-gender

I think there is a Green Party man who is also suing the party because he has been pushed out because he support same sex toilets.

But hey, if you don't give a stuff about, for example, women in prison being locked up with rapists who self-id to get into the cushier women's prison estate then you go ahead and vote for the regressive left.

I know it is hard to get your head round but the only major party that will defend women's rights are the Tories. Reclaim and the SDP also support women's sex based rights but they don't stand a cat in hell's chance.

If Labour get in, especially if they get in supported in coalition by any of the SNP, Greens or LibDems then women's rights are toast. Absolute toast.

I'm really very upset by your post. I'm obviously totally appalled by sexual violence. To suggest that somebody voting for The Green Party doesn't care about women being attacked in prison is devastating, and utterly dreadful. You know nothing of my own history. It's also totally off topic, as we're discussing Mick Lynch. I've felt very bombarded about my voting choices. It's a personal thing. You're entitled to vote whichever way you choose. You're not entitled to harass others for voting otherwise. I respectfully ask you to kindly leave me be Sad

ChristinaXYZ · 03/07/2022 20:41

My apologies @WanderingFruitWonderer I did not mean to come across as quite angry as that sounded on re-read. It is a reflection of how utterly terrified I am of the future of women's rights if any of the left-wing parties get near power. I am angry but not at you personally obviously as, as you say, I don't know you, but at all those who will vote Green because they don't get it and women will remain at risk in prison because of it.

Anyway, my apologies again, and as you request I will leave you alone.

Thank you for your apology. I think it was the suggestion that anyone who votes Labour, Lib Dem or Green doesn't care about the issues you and @ILoveAllRainbowsx raise. Which of course is totally incorrect. I think almost 100% of women, and Mumsnet users are horrified by sexual violence. I don't think any 'couldn't give a stuff'. I could never in a month of Sundays vote Conservative (sorry) But I'd never personally harass anyone who does. Gently discuss, but not attack. Also, my head was spinning, as I wasn't sure how we got from Mick Lynch to that?
Anyway, apology accepted. I wish you well

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 03/07/2022 21:43

@WanderingFruitWonderer

Please accept my apologies as well if you thought that I was criticising you in any way.

The reason I went from Mick Lynch to single sex toilets is because I am concerned that even knowledgeable people like you don't know that the other parties apart from the Tories will destroy women's rights.

I totally understand why you and most of the other people on this thread wouldn't want to Tory after everything that Boris had done but I think that it is important that people realize what that will mean for women's rights.
If they still decide that they don't want to vote Tory then that is fine.

I accept your apology. I was more just very confused, as I was discussing something completely different, and suddenly felt plunged into a totally different issue, and forced to give an opinion on something I hadn't elected to talk about. I deliberately avoid the trans discussions on Mumsnet (and in general) as people on both sides have such strong opinions, and it very quickly becomes angry and toxic, and I want to avoid that. So I was upset at being forced into it. Iyswim.
Re women and political parties though, I think the current government is disastrous. The issue of single sex loos is just one (important though it is) and there are many issues affecting women. The Tories are quietly breaking down the NHS, which is terrible for women. The issue of low pay, which Mick Lynch is addressing, disproportionately affects women. The care crisis, the handling of Covid in care homes, and on and on...
The current government is very right-wing, even by Tory standards. I'm very puzzled as to how you can be a Mick Lynch admirer and a Tory voter at the same time? The two things directly conflict.
Anyway, we're all entitled to our unique set of opinions and beliefs, so I'll leave it there.

notice how MSM are staying away from Mike Lynch this week

Life is not black and white. It is perfectly possible to believe in a conservative social policy while wanting socialist economic policies. Or any other combination.

I agree with this. No party ticks all my boxes but I'll always look at the bigger picture from the way that I see things. The Tories, regardless of Johnson are doing their best to destroy the social fabric of the country from the way that I see it and I fear for future generations whilst they are in government so I'll vote Labour even if I don't agree with every policy. I admire what Mick Lynch is doing and he comes across as far more straightforward than we are used to these days.

Yes, I do agree. I don't remotely think life's black and white. See my Brexit comments above.
Sorry, I probably didn't word that post very well. I was feeling upset on a personal level, and it was affecting my ability to think and type clearly.
I suppose I meant, identifying politically with Mick Lynch, and being a Tory voter would largely be at odds; but yes of course I do totally agree with your point.
