Fina bars transgender swimmers from women's elite events if they went through male puberty www.bbc.co.uk/sport/swimming/61853450

do people really think it is fair (or safe!) if, say, one of the top male boxers decided they were transgender and wanted to compete against women? This is how ridiculous it is.

themessygarden · 20/06/2022 08:20

Fantastic decision, hopefully more sports will follow their lead.

Limer · 20/06/2022 08:24

Absolutely delighted to see this! At last!

Science determines sex. Not hair length, clothes, lipstick, or feelings. Common sense.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 20/06/2022 08:24

Very good news and hopefully the start of sports bodies finding the confidence and using facts and science (as FINA has done) to protect women's sport.

They already do. And one of them is a total arsehole and takes delight in injuring "cis terfs". He needs to be in jail, not beating up women "legally" in front of everyone.

Hawaymanyoushite · 20/06/2022 08:27

Great news for women’s sport. That boyvswomen website is an eye opener.

CrossStichQueen · 20/06/2022 08:27

Those who come on to the thread and shout transphobia do not care about women or transpeople and use transphobia as a reason to openly abuse women.

The more they do it the more people can see what a hateful movement TR has become.

I hope this decision by FINA encourages other establishments to pause and think before they change their policies regarding mixed sex sports, spaces, scholarships womens awards and such.

It happened in MMA. The fight lasted 2 minutes and the female was left with a broken skull.

Hear! HEAR!

Fantastic to see sense and fairness for all prevail. I don't think my brain even processes the phobic word anymore. It's a nonsense and has lost all meaning. And was stupid to begin with, a phobia is a psychological condition where you have an overwhelming fear of something. I'm not scared of trans people, I wish them every happiness to enjoy the same human rights that we all have, I just don't think they should be allowed to trample on women's rights.

This. I have no problem with transwoman being transwomen. Biologically male adult humans who wish to use female pronouns and to be accepted as the female gender. If they feel that is where their life should be then that's brilliant. It all started to go a bit pear shaped when the TWAW came to prominence. That, as actual biological human females, we had to accept that a man ,who was still completely a man, apart from a dress, was now exactly the same as us and therefore allowed to invade every single space we have.....changing rooms, toilets, sports, panels for women, prizes for women.....bloody everything. NO. Transwomen are a separate group. I am in a social/ walking group with a transwoman. X is a perfectly pleasant person, but absolutely not a woman. Transwoman yes. Woman. No.

Fallon Fox. Not boxing but MMA. Frightening this was allowed.

Already happened. The female opponent was seriously injured.
Google Fallon Fox.

Yep. The male Fallon Fox broke Tammika Brent's skull and boasted about it on Twitter. Brent wasn't told Fox was trans before the fight. But she said she had never felt so overpowered, even as a very unusually strong woman and a top female boxer.

But no, the bad guys are people who don't believe Fox belonged in that fight.

AngelinaFibres · 20/06/2022 08:38

Fallen on radio 4 now. Apparently its not fair. Doesnt believe that it gives an advantage. We should be fighting for all women. YOU ARE NOT A WOMAN. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SpottyBumPony · 20/06/2022 08:42

Well done FINA, who knew common sense could be so exciting

ZombieMumEB · 20/06/2022 08:42

This is great news, and finally some common sense (and science!) is being used.

Anyone who tries to silence and control women with the term "transphobia", is just showing the world what a coward they are. No different to when women were called "witch".

We can see through these people for the abusive people that they are.

AmongstTheCosmos · 20/06/2022 08:44

Fallons argument is that excluding transwomen is the same as saying a black woman or a gay woman cannot compete in a women's category. Neither the black woman or the gay woman have lived their life and gone through puberty AS MEN.

CrossStichQueen · 20/06/2022 08:46

According to a Dr on twitter who apparently was a D1 swimmer and coach this decision will increase the drowning rates in transpeople!

I mean really? This is the level of desperation they will sink to in order to force their ridiculous ideology on the rest of the world.

that's MMA (which is no less dumb)

I was specifically thinking about boxers that everyone has heard of to get the point across to those who don't get it.

another clear example would be if Usain Bolt fancied a second crack at world records with minimal training.

Glittertwins · 20/06/2022 08:47

At long last!

Nancydrawn · 20/06/2022 08:52

Out of actual curiosity, if a person had taken puberty blockers early enough not to go through male puberty, would you be comfortable with that person swimming in the women's races?

In other words, is it a chromosome difference (XX vs XY) or a hormone difference (a body that either has significant testosterone or has had significant testosterone vs one that hasn't)?

Peregrina · 20/06/2022 08:53

Or you could keep your transphobia to the relevant part of this forum so that decent people don't have to see it.

Rubbish. Transphobia, or trans-hate would be say sacking all trans people from their jobs, or making them all wear red triangles. Telling them that there are sex differences is just fact.

You are the one who needs to shut up. We have had enough of men with penises and testicles thinking that just wearing women's clothes means that they can barge into female spaces. Spaces that we have fought hard for.

I agree it's a tiny battle, but it's a win and they have been in short supply the last few years. The last win like this was I think USA powerlifting, who straight up said, sex means sex not gender, the end. And that was some time ago now.
Very happy sense has been seen. Theres something similar coming up with some cycling federation thing. Soon, not sure when. Hope that too gets the result we want.

Please explain why this is transphobic?

CrossStichQueen · 20/06/2022 09:00

Nancy this is about sport so the issue is that males who go through puberty will have a physical advantage over females that's the science. We know some DSDs affect females meaning they can have higher levels than the female average of testerone so can share the same male physical advantages which needs to be addressed also so they do limit the T levels in females.

It's not a one or the other situation in ration to chromosomes or hormones.
