Fina bars transgender swimmers from women's elite events if they went through male puberty www.bbc.co.uk/sport/swimming/61853450

Fantastic news.

Hopefully the 'still' men will compete in it too, show them how it feels to be perpetually pitted against someone with a biological/hormonal advantage.

They'd be the first to fucking moan and cry unfairness.

Now, that would be a joy to see 🤣

Eightiesfan · 20/06/2022 00:18

The male class in sports is already an open one. Trans women in elite sports are not good enough to compete as men. Lia Thomas is an average swimmer at best, and Emily Bridges only decided to transition after she was dropped from her elite team. Both of them would have won Olympic gold had they been allowed to compete.

If this lunacy was allowed to continue, I really believe it would have all come to a head at the Olympics. By then there would have been so few women competing it would have been a joke. As it is I believe the Iranian women’s football team has at least 7 male born players. No women’s team would be able to compete with them.

The sad fact is that too many people are completely unaware of what is happening and the power that is wielded but the TRA. However, if every female medal winner on the Olympic podium possesses a penis the backlash would be glorious whilst illustrating just how ridiculous this whole woman with a penis ideology is.

It’ll be interesting to see how much of the big sponsorship money follows the athletes.

Always knew it'd be sport that peaked people.

It certainly was for my oh. He neither understood or gave too much of a toss about it all up until sport. Then he got it all in spades.

user1477391263 · 20/06/2022 01:21

Very good and sensible choice by FINA--well done, people. And creating a separate category is the best way to keep women's sports safe without tipping over into triumphalism. The reality is that there are quite a few transwomen now who have done stuff to their bodies that is impossible to reverse and which means they will never be able to compete in men's sports. Just give them their own category, and then let's get on with celebrating women's sports.

user1477391263 · 20/06/2022 01:24

I suspect that the line taken by FINA here will gradually be adopted by more and more sporting bodies, and a lot of the people who have been shrieking for TWAW and full trans inclusion in women's sports will be engaging in a lot of back pedalling and reverse-ferretting.

"Oh, but you see, of course I never ACTUALLY MEANT that you can simply IDENTIFY your way into the women's category.....!!" (Oh yes, you did. Stop fibbing).

I hope all the relevant screenshots for everyone are being collected. I am happy for people to change their minds, but they need to have the decency to apologize to the people who have been attacked and slagged off as bigots and TERFS merely for asking for this kind of settlement.

It's fantastic news. I'd love to see all sports take the same approach

It's not transphobic to recognise womens sport needs to be protected and biological men have an advantage. People keep repeating that word and honestly it's loosing its meaning.

Please explain how it's 'decent' to exclude women from their own sports category?

Seems hateful and regressive to me.

CorvusPurpureus · 20/06/2022 05:08

Brilliant news.

WhiskyGlasses · 20/06/2022 05:18

RenegadeMatron · 20/06/2022 04:20

Where where?

🤭😂

Its not transphobic to not want males in women’s sports. Excellent news. Ridiculous it’s having to be decided on at all though, it’s common sense.

itsgettingweird · 20/06/2022 05:21

So now it's transphobic to recognise trans people as individuals and give them their own category in sport 🤔

....... waits for para sports people to day it's disablist for them to have their own category.

Oh no ...... wait ....... they won't.

Because someone disabled he doesn't have an advantage over someone biologically different.

Salutina · 20/06/2022 05:21

Cate Campbell (Aussie Olympian) gave a speech on this - text at the end of tgis article. Very well done imo as really emphasises the difficulty of inclusion v fairness and is respectful of both sides

SgurrNaCìche · 20/06/2022 05:23

Fantastic news. Let's hope other sports have the sense to follow.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 20/06/2022 05:30

@Marty13 @Myshitisreal could you please advise how it's transphobic to want sexes to have their own category and stop unfair advantages? Did you feel this way about standard male and female categories?

Hied · 20/06/2022 05:40

Because someone disabled he doesn't have an advantage over someone biologically different.

An athlete in a wheelchair smashed the best able bodied marathon time by 40 minutes!

A bit like a male swimmer besting the women's swimming record, dont't you think?

How can you think it's fair letting men in women's sports? What do you not understand?

It is not transphobic to think it would fairer to have those athletes in their own category.

Wilkolampshade · 20/06/2022 05:50

TFFT.
