Fina bars transgender swimmers from women's elite events if they went through male puberty www.bbc.co.uk/sport/swimming/61853450

@JustAnotherPoster00 how is it transphobic please? It's been said so please explain. It's not excluding trans individuals

RenegadeMatron · 20/06/2022 05:59

@JustAnotherPoster00 will not answer you.

@JustAnotherPoster00 will not answer you.

I would be surprised if any of them do. It's like a buzz word to be thrown about with nothing to back it up.

youlightupmyday · 20/06/2022 06:09

Oh do fuck off the PP that think this is transphobic. It is protecting women's sport.from male advantage.

Thought the imagery of 'everyone on the podium having penises' is very clever.

Surely decent people want fairness in sport?

It is not transphobic to notice the clear advantage male-born swimmers and all other sportspeople have when competing in a women's event.

I mean, I know we moved past logic and facts a long time ago, but men's bodies have larger frames and a greater muscle-to-fat ration than women's... You can't magic that away.

sleepingophelia · 20/06/2022 06:20

*ratio

Here here.

Priceless.

Eightiesfan · 20/06/2022 06:27

Transphobia isn’t losing its meaning, it already been lost by its use as a slur for anyone who has a different opinion. The people who throw this term around so lightly have really shot themselves in the foot…do we need another sporting category for them as well.🤔

Right now Stonewall and their cronies are limping like a three legged dog (no pun intended!)

FOJN · 20/06/2022 06:31

This is excellent news for fairness in women's sports.

I see the "you're transphobic" crew have already shown up. Perhaps they could explain how they think allowing cheats and sex offenders to exploit laws, inclusion policies and public sympathy for their own benefit helps people with gender dysphoria. You have to be truly hard of thinking to imagine it does.

Proudboomer · 20/06/2022 06:36

I am happy to be called transphobic if that is what it takes to keep male bodied people out of women’s sport and spaces.

Guiltycat · 20/06/2022 06:44

The overuse of ‘transphobia’ as an empty attempt at shutting down discussion is what suddenly woke me up out of my ‘just be kind, it’s no big deal’ sleepwalk like attitude to this madness.

It became increasingly clear that those who pulled the pin in that particular grenade and lobbed it at anyone who disagreed with them, NEVER actually stated their case or attempt to engage in discussion that isn’t them screeching ‘burn the witch!’. They just expect that word to say it all, because they have nothing else to say.

CherryReid · 20/06/2022 06:46

Thank goodness - common sense at last
And none of the they must keep their testosterone levels below x or y for z number of weeks/months/years - and who was going to check all these levels time and time again - utter nonsense. As if that was all that counted and not their lung capacity, muscle size, height.

CherryReid · 20/06/2022 06:48

I doubt anyone is transphobic if it's used in the same way as other words eg agorophobic, arachnophobic .

What is phobic about keeping sports sex segregated?

turbonerd · 20/06/2022 07:00

It is excellent news!
and it is not transphobic.
kayak (Rafting?) has these same rules too.
much flinging about of the word transphobic, but it doesn’t actually make it so.

it is common sense.

KangFang · 20/06/2022 07:01

Good.

Sick of men built like brick shithouses swimming in women's races.
Some people will do anything, including cheating, to win and they have no shame.

Funnily enough, you can almost always tell their sex by how they argue it.

Women who argue this have a kind of "be kind, be as morally superior and progressive as I am" tone about it. Men have more of a sense of entitlement and a complete inability to comprehend that the sex of your body does sometimes impact upon your choices and opportunities. They are angry at the idea that women aren't just hobbled versions of them and they couldn't just become women and take their spaces if they want to.

This doesn't work anymore. You can stop now.

Porcupineintherough · 20/06/2022 07:10

It's a good ruling but it will be challenged. I'm not getting too excited til I see if it's going to stick.

Oblomov22 · 20/06/2022 07:14

Good

MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/06/2022 07:18

good, right result

applesandpears33 · 20/06/2022 07:22

I'm glad the differences in biology have been recognised, including the benefit of male puberty and that people are trying to preserve sport for women. I'm also glad there is a third category for people who want to participate in it.

AllHailKingLouis · 20/06/2022 07:24

Myshitisreal · 20/06/2022 02:47

Here here.

Yeah because decent people think it’s absolutely fine for women to be basically excluded from sport altogether. As long as the trans folk are happy eh?

ridiculous. The whole topic shouldn’t even need to be discussed.

if you’re born a bloke, you compete with blokes. It’s simple. It really is.

why the fuck should women have to put up with obvious unfair disadvantage in their own categories?? No normal thinking person could think this was acceptable.

Funny how you don’t tend to get female born athletes kicking off and demanding to compete against men, isn’t it?

these blokes standing with their gold medals built like brick shit houses with women as their competitors should be utterly embarrassed.

EdithStourton · 20/06/2022 07:26

Great news.
And great to see this post still in AIBU and not shuffled off to the Naughty Step.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/06/2022 07:32

Funny how you don’t tend to get female born athletes kicking off and demanding to compete against men, isn’t it?

yes but they will have this category as well
