I thought I would start a thread. It's muggy and I'm tired. I can't wait for the cool Autumn days and darker evenings 🤣

20C here today. Awful. Tried to stay in most of today. Far too hot.

London felt like 30c today - urban heat.

when I retire, I might summer in Scotland! Go and see puffins on the coast.

legaltigger · 15/06/2022 22:03

Currently 28 weeks pregnant and hating it !

RampantIvy · 15/06/2022 22:16

then a hot chocolate by a fire.

Bingo!

StoneofDestiny · 15/06/2022 22:23

I don't want winter - but this muggy humid heat is chronic. Our homes are t designed to cope with it.
It's been forecast a 10 degree difference between the midlands/south of England and the lowlands of Scotland these next few days. Not to mention hayfever struggles as a result.

Kris02 · 15/06/2022 22:37

I love the light, but I **ing HATE the heat. My perfect day is blue sky and sun, but just cold enough to see your breath. I could never move to somewhere like Spain or Australia. The heat would kill me.

Zazdar · 15/06/2022 22:43

I can't wait for Friday!

Same here. I’m taking the day off so I can enjoy it to the full. 30 is my ideal temperature.

ScarlettSunset · 15/06/2022 22:49

You grumble away to your heart's content - I'll be doing the same when it changes colder again!

I feel the cold dreadfully so these warmer days are wonderful for me. I hurt less and feel like I can move.

I suspect in a week or two, I'll be back under the heated blanket so I'll be making the most of this lovely heat while I can

oceanskye · 15/06/2022 23:20

I'm the opposite - in New Zealand and the start of winter here so I'm counting down til spring. I hate being cold, and waking up to warmth and sun always puts me in a good mood for the day. Maybe one of the summer haters in UK should do a house swap with me!

My friend has just come over from Auckland…we are off to Majorca next week for sunshine 🌞

LivingstonDaisies · 15/06/2022 23:54

I’m loving the great weather. The sun, warmth, plants flowering and everything is green and lush, fabulous light nights and early mornings with the light coming into the bedroom window, flip flops, shorts, light clothing, a summer tan, wild water swimming, paddle boarding, I love summer.

Buggar off with darkness (it’s only light here for 7 hours near Christmas) twinkly lights, hot chocolate, blankets on sofas, frosty mornings and snow. Apart from that energy is rocketing in price, I wonder how many people are looking forward to having to have lights on or heating their homes this year?

mellongoose · 16/06/2022 07:35

I am in a minority on mumsnet. I love every time of year and that we get a variety in this country.

Every type of weather passes to the next.

MarshaBradyo · 16/06/2022 07:38

I love it

Also I always feel a bit sad when longest day passes, a kind of nostalgia hard to explain

applesandoranges221 · 16/06/2022 07:44

I also hate hot nights - don't really mind what it does in the day and sometimes quite enjoy a warm one, but when it doesn't cool down at night it's unbearable. Give me autumn anytime!

I'm kind of with you on this. There are things I love about each season. But also things I don't. I like that we have different seasons, although they are not quite as pronounced as they were in the past.

I love the light mornings and nights. In June and July it doesn't get completely dark here if the sky is clear. Dark, but still with a hint of light in the sky.

I don't enjoy the heat though. Especially if I'm working. It really drains my energy levels.

swanfake · 16/06/2022 07:50

I don't fair well in the heat (very pasty) but I don't begrudge the few days a year we get of heat. Only when I have to work them. Trying to work when I'm tight unbreathable work uniform, limited air con and no window in my area of work is pretty horrendous.

I do love that I'm currently sitting outside this time of morning with a tea before work listening to the birds because of the warm weather.

lollipoprainbow · 16/06/2022 07:53

It's finally crept above 21 and already people are grumbling. I don't get it. It's warm enough at last to wear a linen top and skirt. To dump the sweaters and cardigans, to sit outside for an hour in the evening with a glass of wine.

You don't get it because you love the heat; not everyone does, not all of us have gardens to enjoy a glass of wine in either. My flat gets incredibly hot and I have no outside space to get away from it.

Proudboomer · 16/06/2022 08:07

From a practical point of view I can’t see how anyone one can hate the summer.ok you might not enjoy the heat but surely the hotter weather makes life easier and cheaper.
less heating and lighting bills. Less washing and no thick jeans or heavy jumpers to get dry. Only shorts and t shirts which you can dry in the sun outside quickly and comes in smelling fresh and not of fake chemical lenor spring fresh.
no dripping coats to get dry, no muddy boots to clean, children can play outside and do free actives rather than having to pay for indoor soft play and longer days to enjoy.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 16/06/2022 08:19

Well its the start of winter here in Western Australia and I hate it! Its 22 degrees here today and thank god for my Oodie and Ugg slippers! Roll on summer, I can't wait for it to be over 30 again. I even like it over 40, so long as I am either by my pool, in the aircon or at the beach. I do not miss the UK weather at all!

CloudPop · 16/06/2022 09:08

@RampantIvy nobody's said "crisp" yet though

Hence why you don't mind it. I'm from a Caribbean country and it's not an issue because of air conditioning and the way that houses are built (many also have pools). Here it's a LIVING HELL and I hate it

Inthesameboatatmo · 16/06/2022 09:13

Blossomtoes · 15/06/2022 17:46

We get three months of summer if we’re lucky. Please don’t begrudge those of us who enjoy it. Much as winter depresses me, I have to put up with it.

Absolutely this.

I lived in the UK until I was in my 30s, I know what the weather is like there. Grin. And describing it as a LIVING HELL is a bit over the top! I do think its humidity rather than heat that is the issue in the UK though. Here in WA we have very dry heat and it makes all the difference, 35 here is glorious, but in London would be horrible. I think with the way climate change is going you're going to have to get used to it though so perhaps should consider investing in air con and/or solar panels.

Quweenie · 16/06/2022 09:25

Yay! I’ve found my people!

I don’t enjoy summer in the UK. Maybe I would if I lived on a beach or had a pool, had aircon, had a huge beautiful garden and didn’t have to go to work etc.

But there is nothing enjoyable about being hot and bothered, not being able to have the oven on, insect bites, hay fever, screaming kids out playing until 9pm, men walking around with their gut out, being too hot to sleep. I could go on…

People always say… ‘but you love going on holiday!?’
How is that the same thing? 😅 On holiday I can relax, don’t have to go to work or be stuck in traffic, I have a beach and aircon etc.
