I thought I would start a thread. It's muggy and I'm tired. I can't wait for the cool Autumn days and darker evenings 🤣

OP posts:
Isseywith3witchycats · 15/06/2022 20:19

Gordon Bennett 2 days of sun and out come the i hate summers later on in the year two cold wet days and out will come the i hate winter mob

balalake · 15/06/2022 20:31

I'm content to have lower temperatures (Saturday or Sunday and no doubt all during the first week of Wimbledon), and know that for people with some respiratory conditions or hay fever this weather is difficult. Though the pandemic showed that without car traffic, much easier to cope with, so perhaps another reason to reduce car use.

However OP I disagree with you about dark evenings, don't like them, would not put clocks back in winter were it my decision.

thistimelastweek · 15/06/2022 20:31

I live in a cold house. Jumpers and heated blankets 8 months of the year

The only consolation is those few cool weeks in the summer when everyone else is super hot.

I am summer smug in my chilly abode.

MrszClaus · 15/06/2022 20:32

I'm definitely the same OP!! Christmas countdown over here ❄️

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/06/2022 20:33

I have a neighbour from Georgia (the US one) and every year he says he's not doing another summer here without air con.

I think that is the thing, we aren't geared up for it. Like leaves on the line in autumn and snow in winter and floods in spring. Basically we are rubbish at weather management.

Basilbrushgotfat · 15/06/2022 20:34

Please no. I get SAD and the relief with these long sunny days is indescribable. I dread the winter!

Basilbrushgotfat · 15/06/2022 20:34

@Luredbyapomegranate but then what would we talk about?!

RampantIvy · 15/06/2022 20:36

Speak for yourselves... we hit 19° in my part of Scotland today. It was unbearable.

You shouldn't be struggling with temperatures of 19 degrees. That isn't even hot, just warm.

Im always gobsmacked at how many people on Mumsnet seem to want to exist on perpetual drizzle, 6 hours of daylight and sub 10 degree temperatures. What a miserable thought.

So am I. If they like the cold weather so much why are they obsessed with claustrophobic "cosy", "snuggling" open fires, thick jumpers and hot chocolate? They don't seem to see the irony.

I'm just happy that I don't need the heating on just now.

Ponderingwindow · 15/06/2022 20:36

I have started walking around my house singing my self-composed ode to how much I hate summer. It just comes out every year. I can’t help it.

I complain for months that I no longer live on the coast where I had a nice breeze and the weather was almost always 21 degrees. My rental house there was a death trap, you could feel the heat from the electrical wires through the walls. The schools were atrocious. I would come home and be unable to get into my house because a junkie was unconscious across my door. It cost a fortune to live there. I would never live there with a child. The weather was amazing though.

Abcdefu · 15/06/2022 20:37

I can't remember the last day it didn't rain! No heat wave in the North of Ireland

RampantIvy · 15/06/2022 20:38

Just how hot are we talking about BTW?

Flidina · 15/06/2022 20:42

I dread the summer months, can't handle the heat, makes me feel ill and miserable, last year in desperation I bought an air con unit, it was a life saver, no idea how much it costs to run, but I really don't care, as long as I can stay cool and not feel ill.

FruitToast · 15/06/2022 20:46

What heat? Come and live in the NW for cold and damp all year round.

The main conversation on the school run this morning was DS (4) asking if it was summer yet and wants to know when it'll be summer yet because he wants to wear dinosaur shorts. DD (6) was telling him summer clothes are only for summer holidays because here is always cloudy and cold.

FranklySonImTheGaffer · 15/06/2022 20:46

I'm with you OP. Bloody hate being hot anyway (thanks migraines and high BP) but today was just awful. 26° outside today but I had to go into the office - it felt like the surface of the sun on the train in and back 🤢

I love being a bit chilly. I love the cuddled up feeling of a blanket, coat or jumper so your body is warm but your feet / hands / arms / face etc are still cold.

Also prefer winter because it's dark and my stupid body clock doesn't wake me up at stupid o'clock every morning!

Darbs76 · 15/06/2022 20:48

I enjoy the summer but my dog struggles with the heat when this hot. Upstairs is 25 degrees and he’s sitting in front of the fan by the open window

Sunnytwobridges · 15/06/2022 20:51

It's 95F here in the south of the US, we have a heat warning. How lovely 😬

cobden28 · 15/06/2022 20:52

You're no the only person who finds the heat uncomfortable. I stay indoors in the cool and the shade, with curtains closed to block out the sun (my living room gets full sun) and a pedestal fan on for air circulation. Sitting with my feet in a bucket of cold water helps cool me down also - have you tried that?

RampantIvy · 15/06/2022 20:53

but your feet / hands / arms / face etc are still cold

I hate having cold feet and hands. It makes me utterly miserable. Being cold makes me miserable. I need a warm ambient temperature to feel warm. No amount of jumpers and blankets will make me warm if the room is freezing cold.

nannynick · 15/06/2022 20:54

24 degrees indoors, 47% humidity, at nearly 9pm.
Local weather station reporting 21.2 degrees outdoor temp, 53% humidity.

I'm with you OP, I like it to be cooler.

tigger1001 · 15/06/2022 20:55

JoanWilderbeast · 15/06/2022 20:17

Well done for getting in the first, don't like a sweaty summer thread, of the season, 😎 lol.

Not the first! Have read at least 1 other in the last week

avocadotofu · 15/06/2022 20:55

I'm with you too!

RampantIvy · 15/06/2022 20:57

Not the first! Have read at least 1 other in the last week

But it hasn't been hot until today.

MissDollyMix · 15/06/2022 20:58

I’m a winter baby and I love the cooler months so I hear you OP - but… you need summer days like these to appreciate the winter days. It’s the changing seasons that I love the most. I’m in the north of England it was an absolutely perfect 23/24 today. Any hotter is too hot but if it’s cold and miserable in the summer I won’t get to enjoy the winter!

AffIt · 15/06/2022 20:59

Please stop wishing decent weather away for Scottish people.

Big slow hand clap to the housing associations who have over insulated flats and turned them into sweat boxes.

And the private companies too. I think all flats built after 2000 are over insulated, not sure but think there might have been some new regulations then.

my portable air con unit is likely to be on all night tonight. Elec heating but bill much higher in summer due to air con. Fridge and freezer pack up when air con is off because flat gets to 35.

I have skin problems in summer too. I wouldn't hate heat if I lived in a flat that wasn't over insulated.

even before I lived here, I preferred dark at 8pm to 9.30. I don't know why. Spring is my fave.
