I thought I would start a thread. It's muggy and I'm tired. I can't wait for the cool Autumn days and darker evenings 🤣

Low-income households, ethnic minorities and people with disabilities are, for instance, more likely than the general population to be renting homes, and it’s rented and social housing — often flats — which are more prone to overheating

He added that top floor flats, where heat rises to, are worst affected. “Plus, there are fewer outside walls, making ventilation difficult,”
Reduced space in flats, meanwhile, makes escaping heat difficult or even impossible, and there are
few safe havens from high temperatures if there are no trees nearby to shelter from the sun

Yep This is us Sanctuary have filled the walls with insulation turning it into a sweat box and causing mould. I hate this fucking sauna. Its a shithole.

Yes exactly. Housing in the UK for a massive proportion of the population is shit, in fact it’s shit living here in so many ways but that’s another rant!

I feel your pain, it’s unbearable isn’t it?

mmmmmmghturep · 18/06/2022 14:46

Its fucking horrible And im sure the HAs know damn well that a good proportion of their properties arent meant to have this insulation but its a "you scratch my back and i will scratch yours" deal with the contractors.

tigger1001 · 18/06/2022 16:44

17 degrees here today and sunny. Windy though but it's lovely out today. And the wind has meant 3 loads of washing done and dried.

ilovesooty · 18/06/2022 18:41

It's only 13© on my way back from Manchester Airport. That's hardly warm by anyone's standards surely.

Oh no doubt at all that they know, they just don’t care.

I don’t think anyone on this thread is complaining it’s unbearably hot today. It was yesterday and the few days before.

What do you think about the article I linked and the serious issues in housing affecting millions of people? That’s probably the real issue here, beyond just not liking the heat or having a certain preference- it’s the fact that it’s dangerous.

mmmmmmghturep · 18/06/2022 23:39

Wait till they get heat stoke and put pressure on the NHS Thats the only time certain people will care. And then they will tell them to suck it up and not bother the NHS.

mmmmmmghturep · 18/06/2022 23:54

You cant move from one room to the other without breaking into a sweat so.....no hoovering no dusting no mopping no cooking no decorating no nothing when its like this.

That's one of the nice things about scorching weather though, surely? The (very brief, wherever you are located on the UK) enforced break from normality to do not very much at all, other than just be?

I mean, hoovering, dusting and mopping aren't very fun are they? I can't imagine anyone honestly grieving the fact that they can't be wiping down their skirting boards. And the skirting boards will still be there a week layer when the temperature has dropped again - your house wont have decended into a health hazard in that time.

I totally get that some people aren't keen on the heat, but I think that attempting to explain your reasons to those who don't share your postion by bemoaning a fleeting respite from household chores isn't going to achieve much!

(Of course, commuting and working in a heatwave is very unfun, and you don't get an enforced break from them. But that's not what PP was discussing.)

I don’t think anyone on this thread is complaining it’s unbearably hot today. It was yesterday and the few days before.

Which is why it's daft to complain miserably when you know it's going to change back pretty soon anyway.

Personally as someone on a low income living in a flat I'd rather be too hot for a short time than be horribly cold and not be able to afford to heat the house for months on end - and that's what's coming next winter

LuckySantangelo35 · 19/06/2022 12:31

so many of you on here whinging about the heat are soooooo privileged

In the real world there will be so many people dreading winter and the cold because they won’t be able to afford to fuel their houses

Stop being so insular and self absorbed and STOP WHINGING!

@mmmmmmghturep

You would have to be really unfit to break into a sweat just moving from one room to another no matter how hot it is outside

Oh give up, honestly 🙄

Perhaps it's too hard to understand but some people like the cooler months in the same way some people like warmer months. There won't be any moaning from me as I really like autumn and winter.

liveforsummer · 19/06/2022 12:37

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I assume though you're in a position to put on your hearing when it's minus 5 outside? I'm not sure I will be

I'm not sure why you'd assume that.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

Because you wouldn’t be so keen for winter if your couldn’t afford to heat your house. And don’t try and tell me that you like winter and the cold so much that you never put your heating on in your house because I won’t believe you.

Believe what you want.

liveforsummer · 19/06/2022 12:50

Because a preference for cooler weather certainly wouldn't over ride the relief I'm currently feeling that at the moment I don't have to put the heating on (which isn't unheard of in the UK in June) preferring to be cool doesn't mean you or your dc enjoy being freezing in your home and the majority of people
In similar positions will be feeling the same.

tigger1001 · 19/06/2022 13:41

Disliking the heat doesn't mean people aren't worried about the rising costs of fuel and the implications for household bills in the winter.

I am lucky in that I live in a reasonably well insulated house. But I have also been in the position that the heating did not go on until 1st November at the earliest and was off by 1st March at latest due to not being able to afford it. And we will be back to that again this year.

But that doesn't mean I have to love the heat. That well insulated house, which is great in the winter, isn't so great in warmer weather. I can't store the excess heat in it now to use in the winter.

liveforsummer · 19/06/2022 13:46

No you can't store the heat but you'd have even less money to heat your house in December if you were having to pay to do so in June.
