There is much on social media about planned fuel protests on Monday July 4th

blocking motorways, blocking roads and fuel stations
Links to many articles

AIBU you’ll not protest
yANBU you’ll protest

oh god, not again. No I bloody well won't be protesting.
I'll be bloody protesting about the protesters.
I'm a key worker with car travel being my only way to work.

NewIdeasToday · 14/06/2022 08:12

No. This will just cause huge inconvenience and cost people more (blocked roads = longer delays and more fuel wasted).

thebellagio · 14/06/2022 08:13

Anyone who blocks a fuel station is an utter arsehole.

two months ago my daughter was blue lighted to Addenbrookes. My husband had to follow in the car. It took him 6 attempts to find a petrol station with fuel which meant it took him an extra 30 mins to get to the hospital. It could have been the difference between life or death.

The stations were empty because of twats blocking the refineries. The paramedics told me they were also having issues filling the ambulances because of it.

so no. I won’t be protesting or supporting it.

Cyclingforcake · 14/06/2022 08:14

No. What’s the point? It’s not just a U.K. problem. It’s a worldwide problem.

bloodywhitecat · 14/06/2022 08:16

No because I know first hand how stressful it is for people with seriously ill loved ones.

BashfulClam · 14/06/2022 08:17

People may be travelling to get to chemo or kidney dialysis. Rushing an injured/ill person to
hospital rather than wait on an ambulance. Trucks won’t be able to deliver food,/medicine etc. Fucking stupid and selfish idea that won’t change anything.

TheFlis12345 · 14/06/2022 08:18

Absolute nonsense. The government and fuel companies never take any notice of this kind of stupid protest. The only impact is to normal people just trying to get to work.

EveSix · 14/06/2022 08:19

Errr... no. We're struggling with fuel costs and have had to rearrange pretty much everyone's routines to reduce use of the car and find public transport solutions where possible or share with neighbours. Big PITA. But I'm putting my energy into efforts to promote sustainable public transport in the medium to long term. Petrol and diesel aren't sustainable at the level we use them.

Summerwhereareyou · 14/06/2022 08:20

Exactly it's a world problem.
If they want to do something I think organising protest's like not buying fuel rather than blocking it.
I can't see the point??
Thanks for the heads up though, I will make sure we are topped up

BashfulClam · 14/06/2022 08:21

Is it not an act of terrorism now to block fuel supplies? That carries a massive jail term.

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 08:22

Martin Lewis predicted civil unrest due to rising prices of fuel in April

so just 3 months later and that prediction could be taking shape with these protests

OP posts:
ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 08:23

BashfulClam It happened in September 2000, not sure terrorism was brought into it

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 14/06/2022 08:23

If you are, did you also join Insulate Britain or Extinction Rebellion in their protests ?

I’m not joining, as I have got out of fossil fuels altogether. It has to get expensive to wean everyone off and cause the system wide change required to decarbonise.

Well no it isn't. Most people will be working/at school.

HTH

Freerangechildren · 14/06/2022 08:25

No. What is the point protesting about a global issue made worse by a war we didn't start? I don't want to make things worse than they already are. I am walking and cycling more, that is all I am doing, which is not a hardship on summer days.

KenAdams · 14/06/2022 08:28

Why would we all suffer? The cost of fuel is a global problem. What isn't a global problem is fuel duty so you need to protest outside parliament for that, not refineries.

woodencoffetable · 14/06/2022 08:28

Who is the protest against and what action do we want this group to take exactly?

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 08:29

Fuel protests were about rising prices of fuel in 2000

Strange then that wiki has this as the reason @RancidOldHag and that’s how I remember it in the news at the time??

OP posts:
chiffchaffchiff · 14/06/2022 08:29

No, I find those protestors selfish. As if people don't have enough to worry about already. Why can't they go protest at parliament and disrupt the people contributing to the problem with fuel duty?

undermilkjug · 14/06/2022 08:30

No i won't. The protests just backfire.

It's obvious that all older properties should be insulated, but because of the insulate Britain protests, that is about the last thing there will be any funding for.

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 08:31

@PaddingtonBearStareAgain how do you know there won’t be protests?

All of this. And there are rail strikes too, they are in June, but more will be called.

Anyway given that people are still doing 90mh on motorways and leaving their engines running while waiting for their kids to come out of school, fuel is obviously still not expensive enough for some people.

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 08:33

whats this got to do with the price of petrol?

If protesters did this and shouted Allah Akbar they would be treated as terrorists and stopped and arrested.

If protestors did this and said "ban homosexuality " they would be removed and arrested.

If protestors did this and said " deport all black people_ they would be removed and arrested.

Why does it suit the state to tacitly approve this?
