Why should human lives be at risk just so some groups can wave banners, and then other protesters cause violence and vandalism etc

ScruptiousBears · 18/06/2022 21:09

Most people who will protest will not care about the cost of fuel, they just like to protest.

There is that too, the whole, rebels, you don't tell me etc.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 18/06/2022 21:38

I suppose one way of protesting is if everyone chooses the pay at kiosk option, then fills up and 'discovers' they have forgotton their means of payment. Fill out the form and return in a few days and pay it off to avoid prosecution but if most people did it on one particular day it would send a message ?

Wrongkindofovercoat · 18/06/2022 22:00

To be clear, I am not suggesting that anyone forgets their means of payment on purpose, just that modern life is so full of distractions it is an easy thing to happen to your average law abiding citizen who will absolutely pay for their fuel at a slightly later point. Wink

And in the mean time, your number plate and cctv will be logged by the fuel garage or depot. So good luck explaining that to x

No because soon as you drive off, it's considered theft,

Wrongkindofovercoat · 18/06/2022 22:07

Another slightly sneaky idea is if everyone pays in cash and makes sure they put in however many pounds and 25p or something similar, they then run out of change and have to give you the 25p free.

Hawkins001 · 18/06/2022 22:07

Which would mean more fines for the government, to issue and more revenue going to the government pot.

That I'm not sure on the legal aspects of that method.

Absolutely if you drive away with the intention of not paying, but if you go to pay and discover you have forgotton to bring the means to pay with you, they get you to fill out a form and you have a set period of time to return and pay it. Less theft and more oops !

Based on your statement, I hold my hands up, and apologise for my assumption.
I did not realise that method existed.

Which is fine, because when you fill the form in, you also put your reg number on it, you are not trying to evade payment, you have simply forgotten to bring the means of payment with you, you are absolutely, as a law abiding citizen, going to return and pay in full. No harm done Smile

PurpleButterflyWings · 18/06/2022 22:21

Nope. Can't see the point.. It's going to achieve fuck all. Wouldn't waste my time.

@Hawkins001 neither did I until I had PND and became a frequent 'offender' Blush

lljkk · 18/06/2022 22:25

I wonder if Google maps will know, if the timing & places of the protests are all advertised in advance.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 18/06/2022 22:26

@PurpleButterflyWings I appreciate it isn't as 'exciting' as some types of action. I always think 'how can I paint the tank pink ?' harmless on one level, but pisses off the right people on another Grin

ChrisReasBathEggs · 18/06/2022 22:31

I wouldn't tke part in that sort of protesting because you would be being an arsehole and possibly causing a lot if harm to people who have nothing to do with the problem. It just isn't very logical, I dont get that sort if protesting as you are just ensuring people don't want to join you as you have pissed them off. You can dress it up and say it is for the greater good, but it is just about the protesters ego and feeling like they are rebelling.

If you were walking around town and gathering then yes, i probably would join in. Protesting is a numbers game really - a few people blocking a motorway is an inconvenience and has far less impact than a million people peacefully protesting. When the number of people saying they don't want something is visibly huge it is a very powerful statement.

This protest has not been thought through very well.

I'll protest at the protesters, you really want the country coming to a standstill. It's stupid unsafe behaviour

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 18/06/2022 22:41

Oh FFS. What will protesting actually achieve? The week before people will be panic buying fuel again so it's not like the companies will learn their lesson or lower prices as they will have made a huge amount of money in the run up to the protests.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 18/06/2022 23:01

Hey get your own protest day… I think you’ll find that July 4th is already taken.

🤣 Sorry (not really) I couldn’t resist. Have fun!

Wrongkindofovercoat · 19/06/2022 08:06

What I find interesting is I was paying 1.11 per litre for diesel back in the Summer of 2020 when demand for diesel was at an all time low. Once the demand started to increase again, the prices started to rise and it had gone up to 1.50ish a litre by last Winter. That rise had nothing to do with the situation in Ukraine, the additional .50p rise since January, maybe, but not the previous rises.

Glitterspy · 30/06/2022 13:00

Fuel prices???? What a red herring.

I want to protest about women's rights in the US on July 4th. I will wave a placard and take my place. Does anyone know of protests being organised for this?

fyn · 30/06/2022 13:31

@Glitterspy if you want to protest women’s rights, how about starting by protesting that women in Northern Ireland can’t have abortions? They still have to travel to England, Wales or Scotland to have one.

ivykaty44 · 30/06/2022 15:28

Fuel prices???? What a red herring.

I agree - its wages that have been cut by 25% that are the problem and not the increase in price of fuel. When operate business are seeing profits of 73% and the workers are seeing their disposable income disappear there is something terribly wrong with the leading parties greed.

As for whats happening in USA with abortion, it'd be good to ee protests - but the UK has started putting a stop to such action...
