I'm on holiday overseas on 4th July so no, won't be protesting. And wouldn't even if I were in the UK. What a waste of time and effort, and disrupting for everyone else.

boydy99 · 14/06/2022 09:53

my elcs is booked for 4th July! better make sure we can get to hospital OK/ have alternative routes planned and a full tanks of fuel in both cars.

WakeUpandSmelltheKetchup · 14/06/2022 10:15

For God’s sake!!! Why aren’t the government doing anything about these total idiots?!

jamapop · 14/06/2022 10:16

Some fairly minor protests are not remotely the same thing as civil unrest.

fyn · 14/06/2022 10:18

@undermilkjug free insulation for properties has been available for years and years. It’s now more limited to those claiming certain benefits.

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 14/06/2022 10:20

Certainly not. How irresponsible.

balalake · 14/06/2022 10:24

How much of your car fuel use is really essential? Combine journeys, start to walk further, work from home more where this is an option (and complain if you have a useless presenteeism boss).

It really has not been available to enough or promoted and funded enough - the government has been pitiful in this area.

We should have been subsidising insulation as fast as we could fit it - it is a strategic priority to make our nation fuel secure, it is as important as defence spending so should not be left to individuals.

Same with solar panels - utterly thick of the government to cut it back. The only possible reason for doing so is if you want to benefit oil companies - oh, funny that.

i hate people who do this.
I wish it was illegal.
you have to be a right wanker to disrupt over people like this.

You are very foolish if you wish protest was illegal.

Protest is vital, even the protests we do not support (as in this case for me, I do not support fuel protests but respect their right to do it).

Freedom from state tyranny is more important than anything.

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 11:31

If protesting had been illegal in U.K. there’d be many differences in the way we live now, basic voting rights wouldn’t be available to most women and some men, workers rights would be very different.

I don't drive, I don't own a car, I go pretty much everywhere by public transport or on foot. I have no personal investment in the cost of fuel or the roads being blocked.

I still think these protests are bloody awful. People die as a result. No one gives a shit, nothing is going to change, and all you're doing is making life miserable and possibly life-threatening for thousands of people.

AdobeWanKenobi · 14/06/2022 12:03

I've seen about 4 different dates for this 'protest' now, which begs the question, if you cant actually coordinate the correct dates what chance do you possibly have of coordinating a successful protest?

It's just fodder for local Facebook groups to froth over.

user1497787065 · 14/06/2022 12:07

As much as I am affected by the cost of fuel, living rurally we have no choices. We have no public transport from our village to the nearest town and our hot water and heating is powered by an oil fired boiler. So as much as I would love the price to fall I fear that protests will exacerbate the situation rather than solve it.

DogInATent · 14/06/2022 12:15

ROFLMAO

Would these be protests by the same sort of people that objected when environmental protest groups were blocking roads?

Protesting shouldn't be illegal, but doing so in a way that disrupts others definitely should be. There are ways to protest without trying to cause as much disruption as you possibly can. Gain attention for your issue and persuade people to support it with words, engagement and constructive arguments.

Fingers crossed for you and your baby.

Bonjovispjs · 14/06/2022 12:23

No, because I'm not a selfish idiot!

MongoOnlyPawnInGameOfLife · 14/06/2022 12:29

Why aren't they outside the houses of ministers and tory MPs, or the ultra rich with their private jets, chelsea tractors and utter disdain for anyone other than themselves?

Presumably because, if that happened, you can bet the police would move them on far quicker than anyone blocking a fuel station or motorway junction.

Pantsonfire74 · 14/06/2022 12:39

I'm not sure the cost will go down if supply return . After all we are all just complying

maddiemookins16mum · 14/06/2022 12:41

No way. These protesters normally have nowt better to do and are a pain in the ar#e.

whilst public transport rose high in cost, no one protested as they enjoyed frozen fuel tax - so you’ve paid the price for. It driving and sucked it up…

No. It's no different from those extinction rebellion idiots.

JanePrentiss · 14/06/2022 12:59

Why are there so many wankers in the world?

High petrol prices= block roads for emergency services vehicles, NHS staff, care staff, deliveries of urgent or priority items, pupils getting to school, food deliveries, etc.
Christ won't someone find who signs up to these things and stick them in a bunker til they grow up.

MongoOnlyPawnInGameOfLife · 14/06/2022 13:00

ElenaSt · 14/06/2022 12:52

No. It's no different from those extinction rebellion idiots.

Well actually, I'd say thats clearly not the case.

The extinction rebellion 'idiots' are protesting in order to try and force governments and people to pay attention to the fact that soon it will be too late to save the planet (or rather the planet as we know it - the planet as a whole will be fine and arguably better off without us).

You can criticise the way they are going about it, though everyone doing that also seems to be unable to suggest an alternative that might work, but I won't criticse their motives.

This lot however seem to be protesting simply because they're paying more than they want for petrol and diesel and think someone else should pick up the bill.

There’s a difference between having the right to protest and stopping people going about their normal lives. No-one should be allowed to disrupt traffic, or block streets.
