@PaddingtonBearStareAgain how do you know there won’t be protests?

I didn't say there won't be i said most people will be at work/at school. You know, trying to make a living. read posts properly

Aposterhasnoname · 14/06/2022 08:35

Ah yes, block the roads and stop everyone going to work to earn money. Yup, that’ll help the people struggling to put food on the table on no end, whilst sticking it the ruling elite that can work from home. Up the revolution sisters, we’ll show em!

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 08:36

so just 3 months later and that prediction could be taking shape with these protests

Well no it isn't.Most people will be working/at school.

HTH

i took your no it isn’t to mean the protest prediction wasn’t going to happen Paddington

@ivykaty44 i think the 2000 action was what brought about the terrorism thing. I could be wrong but I’m sure when someone suggested blocking fuel supplies this was the reason they were told not to as they law was made after 2000, it could be why it hadn’t happened since then.

carefullycourageous · 14/06/2022 08:44

No, the government have been absolutely useless on the issue of making us less reliant on fossil fuels - something like this current price situation was always a big risk and we have done so little to restructure away from fossil fuels.

I am finding the cost of living issues, all of them, really concerning - but for example in Germany you can get a monthly regional train pass on excellent trains for under twenty Euros - so fuel prices are not harming workers there as much as here.

Our dreadful and expensive public transport means we are overreliant on cars, and this is a deliberate government policy.

We need radical change, not a short term reduction in fuel costs. If we had proper wages, proper benefits, proper public transport we would be in so much better shape.

Bloody crap Tory approach to everything is leaving us horribly exposed as individuals.

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 08:46

@carefullycourageous Agree entirely with your post

OP posts:
WhatIsThisPlease · 14/06/2022 08:46

Totally agree @carefullycourageous

Our public transport system is absolutely shameful.

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 08:22

Martin Lewis predicted civil unrest due to rising prices of fuel in April

so just 3 months later and that prediction could be taking shape with these protests

It's really not

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 09:02

Fuel tax has been frozen for 10 years, it has left a deficit in road funding but public transport prices have increased above the rate of inflation each and every year for the last 10 years - it’s far more expensive than driving a private car, even now it’s cheaper with the fuel price jump

OP posts:
Wrongkindofovercoat · 14/06/2022 09:04

The last time there were fuel shortages, the petrol stations all put their prices up. It doesn't matter how or why the shortage occurs, the price on the pump will raise.
So protest in this way if you like, but remember that it will mean you and everybody else will be paying even more for a tank of fuel in the following days/weeks.

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 09:07

Yodaisawally it’s really not?

is this the prices are really not

the civil unrest is really not

No, I find those protestors selfish. As if people don't have enough to worry about already. Why can't they go protest at parliament and disrupt the people contributing to the problem with fuel duty?

I agree it’s going to make things even worse for a lot of people

MarshaBradyo · 14/06/2022 09:19

You do seem keen to have this civil unrest but no most people will be more unhappy with the disruption the protests cause to their lives

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 09:02

So if fuel duty has had ten years of real-terms cuts, why are you protesting when the cause of the price increasing is outside of anyone's control? What will you gain?

carefullycourageous · 14/06/2022 09:23

I do not find protest selfish, I support the traditional British approach to protest and utterly disagree with the government's attempts to make protest difficult - so I support their right to protest if they wish but would not protest for this myself.

Maybe I will be inconvenienced by these protests if they happen - I still support their right to protest.

I am very sad this government is dismantling the traditional British system/values, they are so unpatriotic!

DdraigGoch · 14/06/2022 09:23

Especially as throwing Molotov cocktails could be deemed a waste of petrol.

MarshaBradyo · 14/06/2022 09:27

It might be a repeat of the protesting man on the train though years ago, when he was pulled down etc

After the pandemic and work stopped for many, people might not be so amenable

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 09:30

why are you protesting

who said I was?

OP posts:
LibrariesGiveUsPower · 14/06/2022 09:33

People planning to block the only major routes into and out of an entire country are complete jerks (both Severn crossings). Stopping hospital transfers and emergency services between England and South Wales is going to be a disaster for people of South Wales.

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2022 09:34

You do seem keen to have this civil unrest

where have I written that?

ive agreed fully with this poster,

carefullycourageous

OP posts:
LibrariesGiveUsPower · 14/06/2022 09:35

And I should really say the only route into/out of South Wales. Driving via Gloucester adds 2 hours and the roads aren’t designed for that level of traffic.

Whendovescry03 · 14/06/2022 09:38

I won't be. I find it frustrating that these protests are directly affecting the people who are being impacted by the issue they're protesting. Where I live they're planning to block the main roads a few weeks earlier and during rush hour.

Thankfully I've been able to arrange to leave work early that day, but it takes the piss. Especially for those who don't have that option and will now have to sit in solid traffic for a few hours that evening (with engines running and air-con blasting if it's a warm day).

Samcro · 14/06/2022 09:38

i hate people who do this.
I wish it was illegal.
you have to be a right wanker to disrupt over people like this.

kittensinthekitchen · 14/06/2022 09:40

No I won't be.

And now I'm fully expecting a rush on fuel and fuel shortages on the days leading up to the 4th of July, so fucking thanks for that, protesters 🙄

Yep. That's what will happen. I won't be protesting.
