Fuming at this guy in the supermarket

Speckledhen2022 · 13/06/2022 18:42

I was in the supermarket this evening and I went to pick up a bottle of fabric conditioner. It was from a good brand and very cheap on offer. A big bottle for a cheap price. It was also the last one of that particular fragrance on the shelf. As I reached out to take it from the shelf, I had almost got it when a guy came by the side of me and grabbed it. He then went over to a girl who I presume was his girlfriend and gave it to her. Presumably, she has asked him to get it for her. I was absolutely fuming. I picked my jaw up off the floor said 'You fucking cunt' and walked off.

AIBU for saying that?

Anyone "fuming" or "raging" about fabric conditioner needs to take a good look at themselves.

Ilovesandwiches · 13/06/2022 19:28

extremely unreasonable to say it out loud

LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE AT THE BACK

I mean how dare people think differently. I didn't realise everyone should have a hive mind.
Yourcaps lock is stuck too

This. Why is do we have to be polite and lady like and have the ‘moral high-ground’ when others acts like nincompoops?

I grew up in communist dictatorship and this was common, men shoving and pushing women and children out of the way in the ration queues. You can’t feed your child the moral high-ground or wash your clothes with it.

You can soften and scent their clothes in it if you're quick enough, though.

Well, he was being a cunt. Maybe if we told men they were being dicks when they were being dicks we’d all be much better off?

Yes, calling people cunts at the slightest provocation will definitely make the world a better and happier place.

No but you can just pick up a different scent of fabric conditioner for the exact same price. No children were harmed, no one was shoved. Nobody said she should have been lady like either… but yeah calling a strange a fucking cunt to their face in the middle of a supermarket because they were rude grabbing some cheap fabric conditioner is an over reaction.

pbj · 13/06/2022 19:29

There’s a world of difference between being “polite” & “ladylike” and calling a stranger a cunt in a public place (where children could hear). It’s unpleasant.

who said the alternative is to be “ladylike” wtf even is that?

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 13/06/2022 19:30

I would've been tempted to follow them round the supermarket and pinch it out of their trolley when they weren't looking - as I may have done in a similar situation with sprouts one Christmas--

Absofuckinglutely. Men get away with a lot of crap they need to be called out on.

... outrage over woman calling a cunt, a cunt in situation where cunt acted like a cunt 🤔 He was a cunt. I wouldn't have said it because my husband works in our supermarket but I would have suggested it internally.

Thank you!

Come on people, that was pretty low of him. All these people commenting like it wouldn’t bother them. Real harsh.

im not a big fan of the c word though.

FOJN · 13/06/2022 19:32

Cunt count on his thread 30, not including quote posts. I'm referring to use of the word, not posters.

I'm laughing my head off. I probably wouldn't have been quite so forthright but it absolutely was cuntish behaviour on his part?

The funniest part of this thread is all the posters who think silently accepting cheeky fuckery is dignified and refusing to tolerate it is 'not ladylike". I'm sure OP would rather have had her bargain fabric softener than impressing some random cheeky fucker with her ladylike manners.

Yes! From the sounds of it the guy would have done the same back.

All the posters on here telling you it was a massive overreaction, they'd have been raging if it had happened to them.

Cant say I am so attached to any scent of fabric conditioner that I would call someone a cunt over it.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 13/06/2022 19:35

Fabric softener is highly carcinogenic is that's any consolation.

BaaCake · 13/06/2022 19:35

Why not use a male gendered insult if you're going to insult him? Penisface or something.

I'd have been raging, yep, and probably rolled my eyes and maybe even a bit of a "wtf was that" glare in his direction.

But calling a stranger in a supermarket a cunt? No. Never.

ilovesooty · 13/06/2022 19:36

And then everybody clapped? 🙄

greenvelvetcouch · 13/06/2022 19:36

Completely inappropriate to use that word in a public space, especially over something so trivial. How vulgar.

Ohhhhladz · 13/06/2022 19:36

Seems like an appropriate reaction to me, but I'd probably have said arsehole. He might've been the type to take "cunt" as a compliment.

He was in the wrong and quite deliberately aggressive about it; of course you can feel free to tell him. It won't make a difference, though.

LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE AT THE BACK

We are not all at the back. Some of us just would not have acted as you did, and that's ok.

This

MynameisJune · 13/06/2022 19:38

Not sure I’d have done the same but for future reference I’m pretty sure nothing belongs to anyone until it’s been through the till. So next @Speckledhen2022 just walk away, stalk them around the shop and then take it when they weren’t looking. Much more ladylike 😂

@Ohhhhladz Who was being aggressive? Only one person in that scenario being aggressive and it certainly wasn't the guy...

I am amazed you even have to ask! he wasn't being a cunt - did he snatch it out of your hand? no! How was he supposed to even know you weren't just looking and considering which one to buy? Outrageous behaviour!
