Fuming at this guy in the supermarket

Speckledhen2022 · 13/06/2022 18:42

I was in the supermarket this evening and I went to pick up a bottle of fabric conditioner. It was from a good brand and very cheap on offer. A big bottle for a cheap price. It was also the last one of that particular fragrance on the shelf. As I reached out to take it from the shelf, I had almost got it when a guy came by the side of me and grabbed it. He then went over to a girl who I presume was his girlfriend and gave it to her. Presumably, she has asked him to get it for her. I was absolutely fuming. I picked my jaw up off the floor said 'You fucking cunt' and walked off.

AIBU for saying that?

Completely inappropriate to use that word in a public space, especially over something so trivial. How vulgar.

It’s the fact a man saw a woman trying to get something and used his dominance to run in and steal or from her. Classic dick move.

MissMaple82 · 13/06/2022 19:41

Yawn

TabithaTittlemouse · 13/06/2022 19:41

What brand/scent was it? It makes a difference.

I’m quite surprised that not only did this supposedly happen but also that you are posting on here about your quite bizarre behaviour.

BaaCake · 13/06/2022 19:35

Why not use a male gendered insult if you're going to insult him? Penisface or something.

True. I should have called him a knob

How slowly do you reach?
Where you standing arms length away and have a disability that means your arm joint can only move at 0.001mph with breaks every few seconds.

I mean even an arthritic sloth doesnt take that long to pick something up.

Also how ninja lightning fast is this guy?
since his girlfriend (who is out of reach in another area) could spot you reaching, ask him without you hearing, then he rushes over like usain bolt and grabs it befor your arm (already clearly extended and reach at the start of this) lands on it.

I mean its very clearly you werent as obviously going for this item as you think you where and you obviously werent reaching or you bloody well would have got it.

Sounds like you where standing there weighing up your choices, they grabbed what they wanted while you where in your lala land of decision and like a spoilt child you got mad that they took your choice and now want what you cant have.

That's insane.

He might have been inconsiderate but did you really swear at him over fabric conditioner?

Nuts.

diamondpony80 · 13/06/2022 19:43

I like a bargain as much as the next person, but I find it hard understand someone getting that upset over fabric conditioner!

MintyGreenDream · 13/06/2022 19:44

You said what most people would say in their head in that situation

Speckledhen2022 · 13/06/2022 19:44

FOJN · 13/06/2022 19:32

Cunt count on his thread 30, not including quote posts. I'm referring to use of the word, not posters.

I'm laughing my head off. I probably wouldn't have been quite so forthright but it absolutely was cuntish behaviour on his part?

The funniest part of this thread is all the posters who think silently accepting cheeky fuckery is dignified and refusing to tolerate it is 'not ladylike". I'm sure OP would rather have had her bargain fabric softener than impressing some random cheeky fucker with her ladylike manners.

True!

YABU for not head butting him after you called him a cunt

Yarboosucks · 13/06/2022 19:45

If he felt any guilt about his actions, I bet it evaporated as soon as you spoke. Gross over-reaction.

EmmiJay · 13/06/2022 19:45

🤣 Brilliant. Sounds like something that would grind my gears too!

EarringsandLipstick · 13/06/2022 19:47

The more we call out this behaviour, however little, the better.

Calling out behaviour ... I mean, ok, except it was just a bottle of fabric conditioner.

But no need to swear at a random person in a supermarket while doing it.

Onwards22 · 13/06/2022 19:48

I don’t understand how slow you must have been reaching for it if he had time to walk over next to you and reach for the same thing.

Unless you had it in your hand how could either of them know you wanted it.

I also don’t understand what the relevance of him giving it to his gf is. Like she saw you reaching for it and asked him to run over and grab it before you did. Which would be impossible.

Sounds like you were looking at it deciding if you want it and as he went for it you tried to go for it too.

Butchyrestingface · 13/06/2022 19:48

It was cunty behaviour.

However, probably I wouldn't have done it because of the fear he'd smack me in the mouth.

celan · 13/06/2022 19:48

I can't believe that anyone a) acts like this in real life; and b) admits to it on a public forum.

I have never in my life heard even one person in a supermarket call another person a cunt.

BTW, fabric conditioner is vile stuff anyway and clogs up your washing machine. So I'd save your "fuming" for the poor person who has to repair your washing machine in due course though you'll probably call them a cunt as well, as that seems to be the way you communicate with people

My hand was 2cm reaching at a normal speed. How obvious can that be? He saw I was reaching for it and then he grabbed it. Seriously rude.

Parents of teenagers looking for jobs in supermarkets take note, this is the kind of vile behaviour they are up against on a daily basis, makes you feel proud doesnt it ??

Fulbe · 13/06/2022 19:51

Good God, it does seem an overreaction to fucking fabric softner (just to demonstrate I don't mind swearing per se). The fact that you've let it get to you this much - to the point of posting on here afterwards - is only harming you. There is help out there for your anger. What must you be like to live with??

Hohofortherobbers · 13/06/2022 19:53

I'd be horrified if someone swore like that in a supermarket. He was out of order but I'd have come up with a classier response. What supermarket were you in?

GabriellaMontez · 13/06/2022 19:53

I think it was proportionate.

gamerchick · 13/06/2022 19:55

Well he was a cunt. Probably didn't bother him though.

CustardySergeant · 13/06/2022 19:55

He must've moved incredibly quickly!

Is this him OP?

Why on earth does this matter?!

Would it be worse in your mind if it was Waitrose, but fine if it was Aldi?
