Fuming at this guy in the supermarket

Speckledhen2022 · 13/06/2022 18:42

I was in the supermarket this evening and I went to pick up a bottle of fabric conditioner. It was from a good brand and very cheap on offer. A big bottle for a cheap price. It was also the last one of that particular fragrance on the shelf. As I reached out to take it from the shelf, I had almost got it when a guy came by the side of me and grabbed it. He then went over to a girl who I presume was his girlfriend and gave it to her. Presumably, she has asked him to get it for her. I was absolutely fuming. I picked my jaw up off the floor said 'You fucking cunt' and walked off.

AIBU for saying that?

YANBU.

Don't blame you at all. What a cunty thing to do, to snatch it knowing you were literally just about to pick it up. Fuck being polite, because he wasn't.

Can't believe all the male apologists on this thread. The more we call out this behaviour, however little, the better.

AnnaSW1 · 13/06/2022 19:19

You'll be quicker next time. This made me LOl 😂

Cryingintherain99 · 13/06/2022 19:19

I'm sure I'm laughing at this way more than I should be. 😂

Riverboatcaptain · 13/06/2022 19:19

I would have thought it but wouldn’t bother saying it or getting involved with a moron like him so would shrug it off and get on with my day. Would have laughed if I witnessed it though🤷‍♂️

Cheesepleeze · 13/06/2022 19:19

What a prick!

Just remember that mumsnet is mixed-generation, so some users may have been brought up to see cunt as a really strong word.

Lovemypeaceandquiet · 13/06/2022 19:20

People are being cunts left right centre, at work, in the shops, on the road, public transport etc.

But you just don’t blow up calling every single one of them cunt.

You were right to call him on his shitty behaviour but I just can’t imagine being so worked up over fabric conditioner.

Unless you just had a really bad day, I dare not to think what do you do when someone does something ACTUALLY annoying.

BrylcreamBeret · 13/06/2022 19:20

... outrage over woman calling a cunt, a cunt in situation where cunt acted like a cunt 🤔 He was a cunt. I wouldn't have said it because my husband works in our supermarket but I would have suggested it internally.

anotherbrewplease · 13/06/2022 19:20

Was it the outdoor fresh Lenor one from Aldi??

I picked an extra one up the other day, cos it is good value

MiserableAsFuccck7 · 13/06/2022 19:21

YANBU.

Don't worry OP, mumsnet doesn't represent real life. Nobody I know IRL clutches pearls over swearing the way many do on here.

He was being a cunt and was told as much. Good.

I'd have been tempted to stealthily follow him around the shop and pour bleach into the fabric conditioner when he wasn't looking.

But then I'm a proper cunt, cunt.

Knowing someone who recently got stabbed for looking at someone, I would not be calling anyone a cunt over fabric softener.

I was thinking this too. I know (not personally, but through others), a couple of people who would think nothing of punching a stranger for calling them this. Not everyone would just walk away.

I don't your reaction was ott at all.

He clearly saw you reaching for it and should not have grabbed it for himself.

This was not the behaviour of a gentleman. I think the word you used for him was completely appropriate.

Calling someone a fucking cunt is the behaviour of a lady?

Im curious to know which generation thinks it’s not that offensive, the one brought up Jeremy Kyle?

Yup need to think smart these days. Self preservation.

So if a man called a woman a cunt over the exact same thing, would that be ok too?

anotherbrewplease · 13/06/2022 19:23

And yes - the man in question certainly was a cunt. Or possibly a wanker. Either way - he needed telling- and you told him 😅

This. Why is do we have to be polite and lady like and have the ‘moral high-ground’ when others acts like nincompoops?

I grew up in communist dictatorship and this was common, men shoving and pushing women and children out of the way in the ration queues. You can’t feed your child the moral high-ground or wash your clothes with it.

We are not all at the back. Some of us just would not have acted as you did, and that's ok.
