To not understand why the Duke and Duchess of Suffolk only came over for 4 days?

UndertheCedartree · 10/06/2022 12:37

I just find this really odd. To fly all that way then only stay 4 days? Surely they had other family to visit, could have made a bit of a holiday of it. I can&t imagine 2 long flights with toddlers that close together - it would be exhausting!

They very much brought the hatred on themselves with their own actions and behaviour, when they fucked off and started slating the UK and his entire family on an internationally broadcast tv show.

They were pretty popular before that, unless I imagined the thousands of people lining the streets of Windsor and cheering for them on their wedding day?

Notonthestairs · 10/06/2022 17:36

Hhhmmm I don't think they did slate the whole of the UK or even the whole of the RF.

I’m shocked by how many on MN are also voracious tabloid readers.

It's because we want to know what's going on in the country - the things that happen every day that affect us . I read the Guardian and the Mail every day, that way I can get an overview of the world wide issues (the GUardian) but also how those issues affect us all every day (the Mail)
It always shocks me how often supposedly educated people (those that decry the mail) don't want to know about normal everyday issues that affect us all.

They left the country due to the insane hatred, even a Republican can see that.

It started after the wedding and escalated.

If you want to know what’s going on I wouldn’t recommend the Mail, aka The Daily Lie.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/06/2022 17:43

I think they didn't particularly want to come but in order to stay on the right side of the Queen - I've said this before - to make sure she stipulstes that they keep Frogmore etc once Charles becomes King, they came as requested/invited by her, but stayed for the minimum time possible.

Perhaps Harry just wants to see his Gran
🤷‍♀️

@billy1966 except everyone who has ever worked with Meghan said she was lovely. Even people who have been offered a lot of money that they said would have made a difference to them have said she was lovely. So you made that whole scenario up in your haed.
But you do think the rest of the Royal Family bitched about and briefed the press against Harry and Meghan.

I am not making anything up.🙄

The media have been full of all sorts for years.

There is a huge difference between how some people will treat a peer/colleague, versus an actual employee or subordinate.

How extraordinary that you don't appear to understand that distinction!

And yes it is completely believable that she/they would be briefed against by Palace staff if they found her/them difficult or demanding to work for.

I find the spewing bile and vitriol very odd because how can folks hate someone they've never even spoken to.

So are you suggesting we can only have opinions on people we've met? Fascinating. Despite all the evidence we have, Finding Freedom, Oprah, Harry's frequent oversharing comments.. but as we haven't met them we can't have an opinion Grin. (Note the use of 'opinions', that does not equal 'hate')

Don't you have opinions on anyone in the public eye?

Notonthestairs · 10/06/2022 17:49

"I am not making anything up.🙄

And the media are 100% reliable? It's gossip dressed up as journalism. And intended to flog some random writers book.

We all know the difference between 'opinions' and the kind of categorical and embellished statements you see on here " they wanted this ". - " they thought that".

^MM wanted the most expensive outfit
M&H want to stay in the Queens favour and keep Frogmore
They didn't leave, they 'flounced'
They wanted the limelight^
^They snubbed the Guildhall
^
You get the picture.

Comefromaway · 10/06/2022 17:55

I would have thought that the type of security that they wanted was for the 4 days of Jubilee and required them to stay on royal properties like Frogmore. If they wanted to go out to a restaurant to socialise then that wouldn't be "work" so they'd have to organise private security and they believe that it's inadequate while in the UK.

not true. I’m really sorry I can’t say why I know this as I could get someone in trouble.

lunar1 · 10/06/2022 12:41

They don't fly like us, the nip about on private jets so they can do it as often as they please.

They offset their carbon footprint by preaching to us about reducing travel and thinking of the environment.

That's what I was thinking - surely if you fly you should not do it for just 4 days!

Yep, they deserve a holiday after all their exhausting private flights and being waited on

Still must be hard to entertain a baby and toddler on a plane.

Notonthestairs · 10/06/2022 18:14

So Op you wanted them to stay longer? Or you didn't want them here at all?

UndertheCedartree · 10/06/2022 18:17

SadLittleLife · 10/06/2022 12:41

They weren't exactly flying Ryanair were they? I'm sure a flight on a private jet with lots of paid help is less stressful than a package holiday.
The trip was a gesture, sign of respect to the Queen.
Don't think any "other family" would have been particularly keen to see them after their revelations.
Presumably due to their "security concerns", they wanted to keep it brief.

I thought other family went over for Lili's party.

I just looked it up out of curiosity. Apparently they flew privately on a Bombardier Global 6000, I presume they were fully catered for as well. They flew from a private airfield, and were probably chauffeured to it and had people to carry all their luggage around. It's a whole different world to regular person air travel.

Yes, I suppose so! I find it hard to imagine!

OP posts:
ThirtyThreeTrees · 10/06/2022 18:19

Only on MN!

Millions of thr4ads on here conpliaijing about in laws and spending time with them. Yet Meghan doesn't want to spend time with hers (the socially awkward law in father who causes her husband such generational pain!, the ill & stoic grandmother, the golden child and the weird creepy uncle, plus others who clearly don't like her) and people fail to understand it!!!!

I'm not a fan of hers but I totally get the short visit.

Diverseopinions · 10/06/2022 18:20

You're never going to know - and it's not anyone's business but there's.

I think we don't really need to speculate and to do so is to be a bit unfair to them. Presumably, they had their own 'truth' , when they did those interviews, and may be feeling now that the old 'least said, soonest mended' adage is true, but whatever, it's going to be slightly awkward visiting Harry's extended family, when these cousins, etc. are going to be getting more and more irrelevant as royals, because if Andrew, passing times and changing priorities...and yes because the RF has been rubbished a bit on

UndertheCedartree · 10/06/2022 18:21

LondonQueen · 10/06/2022 12:45

Harry and Meghan are hardly going to want to stay here where half the country hates them are they,

I have no idea if half the country hate them. But why would they care. It doesn't affect them in the privacy of their house. I just thought they would want to spend time with family/friends.

Quite!

My MIL reckons that they went home early in a huff because none of the RF would attend their daughter's 1st birthday party, due to prior jubilee commitments. According to her, that huff is why they didn't go to the lunch after the service at St Paul's, too.

I asked how she knew all this and apparently it's common knowledge.🙄

Well, I'm hardly an expert on the Royal Family. But I was under the impression family did attend Lili's party just not the Cambridge's as they were in Wales. The kids would probably have rather gone to the party!

Well, apart from some of the royal staff assigned to them, which lead to a bullying enquiry.

Because they’ll be hounded by the press, and whatever they do and say scrutinised.

Pretty sure any of their mates who want a catch up are not short of a bob or two for flights and don’t need to beg time off from their bosses. They can fly out for a holiday with the Sussexes and have a catch up.

The problem is, OP, that you think they’re normal folk ‘just like us’.

Nothing against them, I don’t really care either way, but I think it’s odd you think they have the same concerns as the rest of us!

Yes, I think you're right. Maybe it's because I'm autistic but I don't think I can imagine what being them would be like!

I imagine that the reality of realising no one in their own family now trusts them enough to want to have a conversation with them, has started to sink in.

Harry is also used to being adored by crowds. Yes, he had cheers but there were boos too and he wasn't able to have his own way with things like photos with the Queen. His own grandmother is unable to trust his motives.

I imagine he is going through a pretty uncomfortable thought process. A little late but I don't believe Harry was ever renowned for his quick intellect. He's gone back to the US to sulk.

Money is no object and neither has a proper job (despite claiming to be financially adrift) so he and Meghan can indulge their own wants in terms of travel and when and where they go.

I was kind of thinking they didn't have a job to rush back to so why didn't they make the most of it! But, that must be a hard realisation for him.

Similarly to Internet bullying it cannot physically harm you inside of your house, doesn't make it less unpleasant.

Obviously I have no idea if they care, I'd assume they do as the headlines drove them out of the country.

The British public cancelled their netflix subscriptions in droves over their show.
