To not understand why the Duke and Duchess of Suffolk only came over for 4 days?

I just find this really odd. To fly all that way then only stay 4 days? Surely they had other family to visit, could have made a bit of a holiday of it. I can&t imagine 2 long flights with toddlers that close together - it would be exhausting!

Eugenie has moved to Portugal???🤔😮

2bazookas · 10/06/2022 14:21

It’s been widely reported that various royal cousins have been to California to spend time with the Sussexes and they’ve met in other US locations, not to mention the multiple times they could have met under the radar.

Can you kindly link to a few of these 'widely reported' stories?

This thread reads like a Daily Mail comments section. They can't do right for doing wrong in the eyes of some people so they might as well do what they want. The frothing threads and articles will flow anyway.

Eugenies husband has been offered a job in Portugal so apparently will spend time there and here, good luck to them, Portugal is lovely and not too far away, and his new boss is a business partner of George Clooney.

Harry and Meghan are hardly going to want to stay here where half the country hates them are they,

Half the country 😆

I don't think half the country give the royals much thought l.

OrangeBagel · 10/06/2022 14:34

I’m not sure why this is any of my business. And they flew on a private jet, not Ryanair. I doubt travelling was that exhausting.

StarFlecks · 10/06/2022 14:36

I went to the North York Moors this weekend. Yes, for just two days. It's crazy, isn't it? What was I thinking?

(It's stunning by the way. I'd totally recommend it. Even for longer stays!!)

Ponoka7 · 10/06/2022 14:37

"Harry may have found himself realising he has thrown away the connection with the wider family."

Considering there's been photos of Beatrice and Zara/Mike out with Harry in the US, I doubt it. They talked and smiled with Eugenie and Beatrice in the Cathedral, then Zara/Mike outside. All supposedly went to the first birthday party. Harry was pictured chatting with the Chattos and the Queen's cousin. No-one seemed hostile. Charles and William seemed aloof, but before the PR machine ramped up, Charles always was. We've never really noticed Edward.

@goldfinchfan it was announced ahead of their arrival that both the Queen and Prince Charles were taking over their security. But outside the Cathedral was under the jurisdiction of Royal security and terrorism police. All royals, guests and crowds were under enhanced protection.

"Eugenie has moved to Portugal" and probably still gets funding from the Queen. Yet Harry can't do right for doing wrong. In some quarters H&M were praised for keeping things low key, not turning up everywhere and leaving discreetly. In others they were sulking and staying away and flouncing home.

The interview with Oprah and her faux shock was just so cringe.

I think for such privilege to be complaining is SO tone deaf to so many.

Loyalty within families is important IMO.

I think by talking so poorly about their family, they really let themselves down.

However, I can well imagine a demanding American going down like a lead balloon and indeed being bitched about and briefed against.

I think a lot of people forget just how demanding some "celebrities" can be.

They really do have this snapped finger syndrome.

I have an old American friend of 30+ years who works with many A listers because of her field of work.

She offers a very particular skill set/service
that is quite specialised and is used by both adults and teens.
She's very talent and genuinely passionate about her work.
She gets results.

I think SHE is a bit high maintenance, though of course SHE certainly wouldn't think so.

However, the stories she has told me of some of the behaviour she has heard of and witnessed, will tell you that some are rude, demanding and very unreasonable to deal with and tantrums are definitely not unheard of.

Whilst she certainly hasn't been mistreated, she has witnessed and heard stories.
The staff and PA's of a lot of these people have very tough jobs and many wouldn't do their job for twice the money they make.

I can well imagine that expectations could have been ill matched, and as a bit of a perfectionist they might well have pushed back, hard, against her demanding American celebrity requests.

Briefing against her and them was an easy way to put manners on them, make them feel uneasy about those around them.

Also I really agree with above, that the Oprah interview was the clusterfxxk that has done them final, and irreparable damage within their family, that they will unlikely ever recover from it.

If they hadn't done this, things might well have calmed down and moved forward peaceably.

Unfortunately, Harry has shown himself to be IMO, a very dim witted man, the Hitler outfit from years ago really exhibited such a staggering lack of judgement, that
expectations of him really should have been very low going forward.

who are the duke and duchess of suffolk?
\do you mean sussex?

Whooshaagh · 10/06/2022 14:39

The security argument is quite amusing as Harry put the car windows down to wave to the crowds on the drive to St Paul’s. Perhaps it’s just his dc he was worried about.

The Queen sensibly sent her own security to fetch Harry and family from the airport so that problem was solved.

The Duke of Suffolk was executed for treason in 1554. He was the father of Lady Jane Grey.

Best. Response. Ever.

I just find this really odd.

About as odd as judging the travel habits of complete strangers?

UniversalAunt · 10/06/2022 14:47

Time was people flew from UK to NY/Boston for a weekend break or work meetings, it can be done if so inclined.

I very much doubt that the Sussexes each had a child on their lap for the journeys there & back.

No he didn’t. His wife did.

Viviennemary · 10/06/2022 14:53

I found it even stranger they only went to one event. All that way for the hour long service.

ancientgran · 10/06/2022 14:54

Maybe they had commitments in the US so needed to get back.

God people seriously need to take a moment and get a life. Meghan would be blamed whether she took a week, a month, or a few days. I’m honestly shocked the war in Ukraine or cost of living crisis hasn’t been blamed on her yet. What’s killing the royal family isn’t the antichrist Meghan or her ‘puppet’ Harry it’s the pathetic over analysis and picking over minor bollocks that the rest of the world sees for what it is. And I’m sure we will see for what it is in a documentary in 10-20 years time thinking ‘wow - how did a hate campaign that stood on nothing but minor insurrections (that Kate does and is praised for but that’s by the by) trump an actual nonce in the royal family’. It’s not even that cleverly done. Sorry for the rant but it never fails to shock me how ridiculous this obsession is. Like truly get a hobby.

Yes exactly. People care more about whether people in the family talk to Harry and Meghan than what Prince Andrew did and the £12 million pay-offs by the taxpayers (yes the Queen paid it, but it came from our pockets).
It is truly crazy.

Januarytoes · 10/06/2022 14:58

I think they just wanted to see the family during a celebratory time and they didn't come to make it all about them. I think they did it perfectly, not that it is any of my business. The press got some shots of Meghan through the window enjoying being with the nieces and nephews. I was glad to see that and didn't want more information. The family were pleased to see them.

Mark Steel (comedian) said in his standup show that the press had told them to F off and then acted all indignant when they left. I think whatever they do will seem wrong to the press. I say just get on with staying in love and raising the children and enjoying life. They are doing well especially as neither of them had an ideal childhood, did they.

I also married a foreigner and went to live abroad for a while. We would visit, we were welcomed, and then we'd go back again. It's a normal way to visit your family when you're currently living abroad.

antelopevalley · 10/06/2022 14:59

@Viviennemary except they did not.

antelopevalley · 10/06/2022 15:03

@billy1966 except everyone who has ever worked with Meghan said she was lovely. Even people who have been offered a lot of money that they said would have made a difference to them have said she was lovely. So you made that whole scenario up in your haed.
But you do think the rest of the Royal Family bitched about and briefed the press against Harry and Meghan.

RaspberryParfait · 10/06/2022 15:08

Wasn’t it reported HMQ declined their request for an official pic with Lilly? I suppose that went down like a lead ballon as they needed that to keep up their profile in the US.

It was also reported that they didn’t check if Will, Kate and Charles would be free for the birthday party and obviously they weren’t (even if they did want to come) so another disappointment especially as they had the photographer all ready to get photo opps.

Looks like none of the RF attended as the only pic from that was Meg with the photographers wife and DC? I’m sure if Zara or Eugenie attended with their DC (thinking of similar aged DC) they would have released a pic of them instead?

Louis wasn’t in Wales, did someone take him so he could spend time with cousin Archie, I wonder? Bit sad if not as they’re similar ages and won’t see each other often.

I’m sure Harry was furious and flounced. His and her hope to overshadow Will and Kate has massively backfired. He looks like a petulant child who’s had his favourite toy confiscated for bad behaviour 99% of the time.
