And do you think he can survive in the long term ..

OP posts:
AnnaMagnani · 07/06/2022 15:06

My next door neighbours were big Boris fans - yes, farming village.

They have slowly been going off him during Covid as they are sticklers for keeping to the rules and not telling lies. They've also noticed they have less money and the NHS seems to be rubbish now.

Dillydollydingdong · 07/06/2022 15:06

Hmmm ...I think we're lucky he's staying. He'd be able to get a much better paid job in industry, maybe some after dinner speaking, and have an easy ride without all the snide remarks, criticism, and no stress.

TullyApplebottom · 07/06/2022 15:00

So you believe starmer was telling us the truth when he said we should vote for corbyn, then.
thats not a recommendation.

Nice deflection but Boris is the world leader at lying and corruption.
What you seem to be saying is you prefer a proven and habitual liar and cheat to someone sanctimonious - that's your absolute right but at least be honest.....oh I see.

Blossomtoes · 07/06/2022 15:08

To be fair @AmaryIlis, Sweden had one of the lowest death rates in the west without locking down.

😂Hilarious - poor Boris, all those people pointing out all his lies, the rotters; the poor wee lamb.

newnamethanks · 07/06/2022 15:08

Isnt Corbyn the dangerous pinko Commie rat funded by Russia? Why has all the Russian money ended up in the pockets of the Tory party? Explanations welcomed. Just as well that dangerous socialist never got elected, he might have put the son of a KGB agent in the House of Lords. Imagine the outcry and scandal.

8thecake · 07/06/2022 15:09

Not pleased, wish he'd fuck off. But he won't he will just cling on as he has zero shame and does not care.

Shy Tory is a thing. Lots of people don’t want to step up and announce they quite like Boris, he made a sensible comment about women and not wanting men in women’s sport, or that he can win landslide elections. They don’t want to be torn to shreds on here. Obviously a lot of people voted for him for loads of different reasons. If Mumsnet majority opinions were truly representative, we’d still be part of the EU and Labour would be in Govt. But it isn’t. So we’re not…

How can anyone, shy or not, be taken in by that nonsense about "he made a sensible comment about women"? He hasn't actually done anything to help women, despite being in power for three years. To him women are really nothing other than sex objects.

As for landslide election wins, did you notice the result of the recent local elections?

SunshineAndFizz · 07/06/2022 15:10

AliceAbsolum · 07/06/2022 14:28

Yes I'm pleased. I like him. Too much going on in the world to be upset about some after work drinks years ago.

Just some after work drinks?!!

People were dying alone, following his orders, while he had 'after work drinks'. Anyone who thinks this is a trivial matter is a CF.

Seriously? What corporate organisation that wasn’t hellbent on industrial suicide do you think would employ the most inveterate proven liar and greatest incompetent in the country?

ilovesooty · 07/06/2022 15:11

Anothernamechangeplease · 07/06/2022 14:40

It's bad news for the country but great news for anyone who hates the Tories.

Agreed. He's now got plenty of opportunity to render the Tories even more unelectable and expose his own lies and incompetence even further.

the80sweregreat · 07/06/2022 15:12

They are not ' all as bad as each other'
Rory Stewart isn't an MP anymore , but I'd have voted for him if he had been the leader at that time of the last GE and I have never voted Conservative in my life.
I'm sure that the parties at number ten would not have happened under Theresa May and I wasn't a big fan of hers during her time as PM. She would have told them to go home and not encouraged that kind of behavior , I'm sure of it

It's really unfair for people to just assume that they are all as bad as Boris Johnson, because many are not.
The Labour Party could do with a better leader , none of these parties are without their problems, but what Boris Johnson allowed to happen over lockdown is pretty unforgivable.
He has survived the vote, but the arguing goes on.

But ... Johnson is in charge. He's the PM. Doesn't matter what he says, we already have men in women's sports, etc. and it looks as though there's going to be no serious Parliamentary committee examining these issues ...
Almost as though words are very cheap with our friend Johnson ...

And tax levels ...

Anyway, in answer to the OP: I'm not glad. I know it's probably good for those wanting a Labour government but I think we needed a new PM and - crucially - a new Cabinet.
The current Cabinet are shit.

Johnson is surrounded by a lacklustre group, the Cabinet is just dreadful, and worst of all, there are a whole bunch of MPs too deluded, stupid or cowed to get rid of him.
Bravo the MPs who tried to.

It's a disgrace that a majority decided to toxic their Party by clinging on to this appalling, morally corrosive man.

I am saddened about what damage he will do - and he will - before he is finally prised out.

Not really over time, or as compared with other countries with similar population density.

HRTQueen · 07/06/2022 15:16

I have heard people say they are pleased that he is now able to get on with his job

Shame the party has had enough time to find a replacement

Labour need to look at themselves I doubt the Tories are too concerned about Labour’s leadership if they were Johnson would have been gone sometime ago

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 07/06/2022 15:17

Aye, When your best argument is "but Starmer" or "but Corbyn" you have no argument.

Don't agree they are all as bad and at least 148 Tory MPs think they could do better too.

SleeplessInEngland · 07/06/2022 15:19

I'm not a fan of the guy because I'm not a cunt, but I'm glad he's sticking around to weaken the party further prior to the next eleciton.

Villagewaspbyke · 07/06/2022 15:19

He is. And probably Carrie too.

I’m fully on board with the proposition that boris is a gobshite. I’m saying there’s worse out there, and a chippy lawyer with a penchant for thé hard left is worse. Starmer’s kind have too much influence on public life as it is. We don’t need more of that.

thecatfromjapan · 07/06/2022 15:21

And it's worth pointing out that Johnson sickens most centrist, socially liberal Conservatives. A group that is now looking to Labour and thinking, 'Actually, if that's the alternative, I reckon I can live with that.'

I know - I was chatting to just such a voter today, who was looking forward to Starmer as PM.

I am baffled as to why the Conservative Party is so keen to throw those people out of their bus - in exchange for being wedded to a liar, incompetent and profligate. Just baffled.

But, hey, they'll find a welcome amongst the Progressive, non-venal Parties. 🤷‍♀️

SleeplessInEngland · 07/06/2022 15:22

"I’m fully on board with the proposition that boris is a gobshite. I’m saying there’s worse out there, and a chippy lawyer with a penchant for thé hard left is worse."

Corbynites despise Starmer more than the tories do, so I guess they didn't get the memo about his hard left penchant.

LOL at anyone who expects logic from the left.
starmer told us, with a straight face, that corbyn was the right choice for PM. Either he didn’t mean that, and he was dishonest. Or he did, which is worse.

thecatfromjapan · 07/06/2022 15:27

@the80sweregreat No. They're not all the same.
Johnson kicked people like Rory Stewart out. Which was a long-term loss for short term gain.
And even with the ruthless cull, still 40% of the Conservative MPs said, 'We're better than this.'

Shame it was a secret ballot - because the fact the majority of the MPs voted to keep him in (why?!?) toxifies all of them.

Blossomtoes · 07/06/2022 15:27

I doubt the Tories are too concerned about Labour’s leadership if they were Johnson would have been gone sometime ago

Then they should be because the differences between the two become more stark with every passing day. They should also remember that oppositions don’t win elections, governments lose them - an adage the polls seem to endorse. With Johnson at the helm it’s only going to widen the gap.

AmaryIlis · 07/06/2022 15:27

Since when was having respect for the rule of law a controversial hard left stance? I get it that it's utterly foreign to Johnson, but we don't have to take hi as the yardstick, do we?
