Boris no confidence vote…he’s going to win isn’t he?

Spineless MPs….then he’ll limp along doing even more attention seeking stunts.

I think you could be right. His days are numbered though. Even facing one will weaken him. If such a thing is possible.

The reason he'll win is because there's no one obvious to replace him now that dishy rishi has been shown to have a tax dodging missis.

felulageller · 06/06/2022 08:35

There's no decent alternative in the Tory party.

hepaticanobilis · 06/06/2022 08:35

Yes, the timing is annoying because if he wins tonight he'll then be safe from a further vote for a whole year. He seems to be determined to stay and not go voluntarily.

GreenLunchBox · 06/06/2022 08:35

Yeah, you're most probably right. I actually hope he wins because it'll just damage the Tory party more and more

User487216 · 06/06/2022 08:36

He will be here for another year...

Merryoldgoat · 06/06/2022 08:36

I agree. I’d be very pleasantly surprised if they voted him out but I doubt it.

MintyMoocow · 06/06/2022 08:36

Give Labour time to put together a decent opposition maybe?

I heard earlier that they can change the rules, after all it's only a Tory part rule, not the law of the land.

MagicTurtle · 06/06/2022 08:38

I really, really hope you're wrong.

Surely the MPs are aware of the strength of public feeling against him?

Someone skeptical may surmise that the reason we know about Rishi's tax-dodging wife at all is so that in this situation this would be the outcome.

HRTQueen · 06/06/2022 08:39

probably I think much of this is to win back voters

this should have happened months ago so they could then not spend so much time tied up in this issue but there is still no one lined up

some arguments with MPs some eating humble pie and on with the job

who is lined up? Jeremy Hunt Tories are not that stupid

Imabouttoexplode · 06/06/2022 08:39

Please god no. Please, against the odds, please make him go away. Like a previous thread, I hope, whether he stays or goes, he spends the rest of his days feeling the wrath of the British public. Every time he goes to a restaurant or the airport and is exposed to the great bp at large.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 06/06/2022 08:40

Probably but they've got to consider the next election. Do they really want to risk going into it with Boris at the helm?

RoseLunarPink · 06/06/2022 08:40

Also you can’t ditch him for partygate and then have Rishi who was also fined.

But I do think there are some possible alternatives. Javid is one. Unfortunately more likely to get Gove. I bet they’d vote Rory in now if they had the chance.

Seems like this is not technically correct, or rather, could change. It's a convention, but May resigned when Brady pointed out that the same majority numbers applied to changing the 1922 committee rule as to get her out, so that just clinging on wouldn't protect her.

As with everything else, the Brexity Tories broke the rule they depend on for a short term advantage.

Volterra · 06/06/2022 08:43

Yes I think he will bribe and threaten his way into staying.

SleeplessInEngland · 06/06/2022 08:43

He'll probably win and that will be to Labour's advantage.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 06/06/2022 08:44

It's Labour who need a new leader. The pathetic excuse for a leader that is Johnson will limp along until the next election, but it's a proper Labour Party that needs to take over now. They need to support women's rights and get a proper leader in place, NOT the wet haddock that's currently in. They need a strong woman in charge.

FiloPasty · 06/06/2022 08:45

I’ve just emailed my MP (conservative) I think if you have a conservative MP you should email them today and voice your opinion.
I think they’ll notice the volume of inbox and that has to hold some sway.

I do think the booing at St Paul’s might be the final straw for a lot of MPs. Here’s hoping.

SleeplessInEngland · 06/06/2022 08:45

LOL at the official no-10 statement: “Tonight is a chance to end months of speculation and allow the government to draw a line and move on, delivering on the people’s priorities."

Yeah, that's one way of looking at it.

I hate to mention this, because facts are tedious, but she didn’t actually dodge any tax … she paid what the law requires her to. And I imagine she can probably afford lawyers

Swayingpalmtrees · 06/06/2022 08:48

He has a guarantee of 170 that are paid in some shape or another. So he only needs ten votes. He will walk the vote and there is every chance it will make him stronger than before.

The idiots that are sending in the letters are literally signing away any chance of being in the party in the future and won't have any support going forward.

My bet, he will win the confidence vote and call a snap election about the same time Starmer resigns for beergate.

There is no one to replace Boris, and the conservatives know it. No one can bring his energy to the election either, no one can touch him in terms of actually reaching the electorate and making the headlines. Liz can not bring his thumping majorities, no one can. The tories are being very unwise, and have got too comfortable, and it was always so...

SleeplessInEngland · 06/06/2022 08:49

FWIW, although Johnson staying would be good for Labour, I do hope he leaves soon. Him staying is clearly not in the country's interest, and even his most sycophantic defenders can only use whataboutery now.
