Spineless MPs….then he’ll limp along doing even more attention seeking stunts.

There's no decent alternative in the Tory party.

It smacks of when Labour went against Corbyn but put up two lightweights against him so he won easily.

User487216 · 06/06/2022 09:11

He will probably win it and hung Parliament at next election is most likely outcome from all this, could be either Tory or Labour but no outright winner

Volterra · 06/06/2022 09:13

I have emailed my MP, have held off waiting for this moment.

BuanoKubiamVej · 06/06/2022 09:17

I expect he will win.

This will be a clear and unequivocal declaration from the parliamentary tory party that they are on the side of deceit and arrogance and that they endorse and approve of these attributes in their leader.

The voting public will then, at the next general election, have important knowledge - that the individual candidates who could have shown themselves to value decency and fair play had the opportunity to oust a leader who doesn't share those values but chose not to.

All the tory cheerleaders saying that they welcome the vote because it will "draw a line" are totally delusional. A win for Boris will not be forgotten. It will be proof that a vote for the tory party is a vote for liars abd charlatans.

I say this as a floating voter who might seriously consider voting tory if they do the decent thing today, because I would love to be proved wrong. I normally vote liberal or green, occasionally labour but it varies from election to election. I recognise that many tories are good people trying to do the right thing. The tories have a real opportunity here to reinvent themselves, distance themselves from those who have no honesty or integrity and show themselves to be people of honour who can be trusted. Sadly, I don't think this is an opportunity that they will take.

Jesse Norman's letter twitter.com/Jesse_Norman/status/1533699235417403393?t=s_tEfXjmEn-hnyPRSw2ezw&s=19

Ooooooof!

balalake · 06/06/2022 09:18

OP I think sadly you are correct and Mr Johnson will win the vote. How long before the Tory parliamentary party come to their senses is anyone's guess. Just hope at the two by-elections on June 23rd the Tory candidates lose badly.

PestorPeston · 06/06/2022 09:19

Wonderful timing. Anyone who votes for Boris and his right to party, is voting against the Queen, who honoured her obligation to follow the rules at DoE's funeral.

7eleven · 06/06/2022 09:19

Apart from obvious situations, like Thatcher being booed in Sheffield during the miners’ strike, can anyone remember a prime minister being booed at a public event before? I think this weekend showed what an embarrassment he is.

Whitehorsegirl · 06/06/2022 09:21

Either way he is toast and so is the Tory party if they don't change their leader.

Theresa May won a vote of no confidence but had to plan her early departure a few months later.

The Tories will likely lose the next by-election in Wakefield on 23rd June by a big margin and Johnson will continue to go from scandal to scandal.

Johnson has lost a big part of the public's confidence and the country is in a mess right now (cost of living, Brexit, cancelled flights) and he has no plan whatsoever to address that.

There is no recovering from that. His MPs might save him out of cowardice but the people won't.

Jourdain11 · 06/06/2022 09:21

Osborne got booed at the Olympics, by a whole stadium.

Not a PM, but still.

IncompleteSenten · 06/06/2022 09:22

Probably.

Tbh though, would you want to have to clean up his mess ? Because I wouldn't..

EdithStourton · 06/06/2022 09:22

GreenLunchBox · 06/06/2022 09:18

Oof indeed.

I've been waiting for Boris to be defenestrated for about 3 years now, but I have no idea how this vote will go.

carefullycourageous · 06/06/2022 09:22

But he's bloody teflon. Nothing sticks.

This is clearly not true. Teflon coating wears off in the end. That appears to have happened with Johnson. Personal polling is very bad now.

L1ttledrummergirl · 06/06/2022 09:22

I've been writing to my conservative mp over this with no response, but I have written again this morning urging her to finally do the right thing.
Please write to your MP.

Isitsixoclockalready · 06/06/2022 09:23

I can only imagine what publicity stunts await us between now and the next election if Johnson wins. The Tory trajectory seems to be on an ever steeper decline in terms of policies.

Jourdain11 · 06/06/2022 09:23

And Blair got booed by the WI! Where? Can't remember... but there were a lot of them!

Alexandra2001 · 06/06/2022 09:24

felulageller · 06/06/2022 08:35

There's no decent alternative in the Tory party.

How do you know this?

If you had an unreliable car, would you say "not changing it as they are all the same"

they ve been in for 12 years, thats plenty of time to have seen some improvement but there is none, nothing is better than 12 years ago, not a single thing.

anyway, i hope he wins, stays on until the next GE.

LakieLady · 06/06/2022 09:24

User135644 · 06/06/2022 09:09

It smacks of when Labour went against Corbyn but put up two lightweights against him so he won easily.

I don't think Andy Burnham and Yvette Cooper can be regarded as lightweights, tbh. Burnham is massively popular and had an excellent track record, and Cooper has long been regarded as one of the most able among Labour MPs, indeed, among MPs generally.

Her work on the Home Affairs select committee has been really impressive, to the point where (iirc) she was elected unopposed as chair.

AppleandRhubarbTart · 06/06/2022 09:24

Personally I'll be loving the mess regardless.

I think he's likely to win it though, fwiw. This lot haven't the spine or gumption to give him the heave ho without clear evidence that someone else would be likely to get them more seats in the next GE. But of course, that will not be the end of it.

PestorPeston · 06/06/2022 09:26

If he wins by the skin of his teeth, will we se the £20 UC uplift back by the end of the week?

TullyApplebottom · 06/06/2022 08:47

I hate to mention this, because facts are tedious, but she didn’t actually dodge any tax … she paid what the law requires her to. And I imagine she can probably afford lawyers

agreed. She didn’t dodge any tax at all. She is non dom because that is what she sees herself based on an number of factors and the law agreed - and she paid what is due on that basis

it’s not even a loophole she used - just a very archaic uk specific tax principle that is probably a bit outdated

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 06/06/2022 09:30

Sunak is the obvious choice and frankly his wife’s above board tax issues are not an issue if the comparison is Johnson….

Gastonia · 06/06/2022 09:30

I think he'll unexpectedly lose. Even some of those dependent on him for govt jobs must surely realise he's a liability...
