Boris no confidence vote…he’s going to win isn’t he?

Spineless MPs….then he’ll limp along doing even more attention seeking stunts.

I’ve just emailed my MP (conservative) I think if you have a conservative MP you should email them today and voice your opinion.

I emailed my very right wing Tory MP a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised by the clearly very anti-Boris response I got.

He has a guarantee of 170 that are paid in some shape or another. So he only needs ten votes. He will walk the vote and there is every chance it will make him stronger than before.

The idiots that are sending in the letters are literally signing away any chance of being in the party in the future and won't have any support going forward.

My bet, he will win the confidence vote and call a snap election about the same time Starmer resigns for beergate.

There is no one to replace Boris, and the conservatives know it. No one can bring his energy to the election either, no one can touch him in terms of actually reaching the electorate and making the headlines. Liz can not bring his thumping majorities, no one can. The tories are being very unwise, and have got too comfortable, and it was always so...

I see your subtle evolution from 'both sides are just as bad' to 'boris is god' has reached fruition.

TambourineOfRepentance · 06/06/2022 08:51

I suspect you're right.

There are by-elections soon which don't look to go well for the Conservatives and success in the next General Election looks unlikely so there's reason enough to vote against him, even if you find his style of leadership in any way acceptable.

Even so, I doubt they'll do the sensible thing.

Lonelycrab · 06/06/2022 08:52

Yes I think you’re probably right.

He’ll probably scrape it, just…..

I still think he’s damaged goods now and he cannot recover in terms of popularity, the chances of the Tories winning the next election with him at the helm are not good.

mumda · 06/06/2022 08:53

Who do you want instead?

That's the question the MPs need to answer.

These people walk amongst us 😳

Narwhalelife · 06/06/2022 08:54

The only hope I have is that the Tories do not like to loose, and the price is higher now because Boris is such a tool, so we don’t know how many MP’s have submitted their letters, it may be that they think they can win? Let’s hope so?

SleeplessInEngland · 06/06/2022 08:55

Ben Wallace would be a good replacement. Very popular with members and mostly unknown by the public other than his work on Ukraine. A blank canvas that the party really needs.

GreenLunchBox · 06/06/2022 08:55

Maybe a clue of his successor is here: twitter.com/JAHeale/status/1531189521978728448?t=VM3p6oWaR8g0oiFCC2U_Ow&s=19

LakieLady · 06/06/2022 08:56

I think he probably will, mainly because there's no-one else who's really up to the job, or who would have support across the whole of the parliamentary party.

Truss is a loose cannon, Sunak's now tainted because of the non-dom business, Javid also exploited non-dom rules, Hunt was pro-Remain and won't have the support of the ERG headbangers, Tugendhat has no ministerial experience, Wallace's experience has been very limited, Gove is too weird.

The only 2 names that I've heard mentioned that don't have things about them that would make them palatable to a large section of Tory MPs are Zahawi and Mordaunt, and Mordaunt again has very little experience. And I can't see Zahawi getting broad support, either.

Interesting times though. I wonder what time they'll be voting? Although I don't think Johnson will lose, I'd stay up on the offchance that he does, simply to see his reaction.

Perime · 06/06/2022 08:59

I suspect he will win. It's probably the best case scenario - massive issues in the country that he should be there to answer for.

Mischance · 06/06/2022 09:00

Of course he will win - too many spineless backbenchers hoping for a leg up the ladder. Sickening.

FearlessFreddie · 06/06/2022 09:01

He might win tonight but I don’t think he’ll win convincingly and I reckon he’ll be gone before the end of the year.

My money is on Zahawi.

SleeplessInEngland · 06/06/2022 09:03

I'll be happy with the outcome either way. If he goes then great, obviously.

If he stays then the tories are publicly and explicitly telling voters 'we know you all hate him but we've got no-one better.'

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 06/06/2022 09:03

felulageller · 06/06/2022 08:35

There's no decent alternative in the Tory party.

There's no decent alternative in the Tory Party.

Fixed that for you.

I confused him with Ben Bradley 😱

ilovesooty · 06/06/2022 09:04

I suspect he'll win but this will weaken him. It will be followed by crushing by election defeat. Good.

pointythings · 06/06/2022 09:05

I want him to win. I want him to hang around accruing more mud to stick on the Conservative party. Because they deserve to end up in the wilderness for a long time, and Boris is Labour's best chance of winning the next election.

Stapleton143 · 06/06/2022 09:05

He will be booed everywhere he goes now. A decent PM would take the cue and step down, the fact that he doesn’t get it shows a lack of empathy/social skills.

Triffid1 · 06/06/2022 09:05

I hope he loses but I suspect he'll win because the Tory party is clearly made up of a bunch of spineless idiots and there's no real replacement candidate. Jeremy Hunt, for whatever reason, has been putting his second leadership campaign on hold which is a pity because the public might like him better, but I'm not sure if Tory MPs can stomach him.

The F* palace trolled him during the bloody jubilee service and they still think he can carry on? It's' just mind boggling.

But he's bloody teflon. Nothing sticks.

carefullycourageous · 06/06/2022 09:06

I love a win-win Tory leadership contest Grin

I despise Johnson, so would enjoy watching him be defeated.
I would enjoy watching the Tories drop further in opinion polls, so would be happy to see Johnson stay at the helm.

Nothing better than watching Tories rip each other to bits. Brixit was going to unify the party Grin Grin Grin

MarshaBradyo · 06/06/2022 09:06

People are saying so but I’ll wait and see what happens

It’ll be interesting to see what happens next, with the enquiry. Not sure if that’s an automatic dismissal if it goes against

SleeplessInEngland · 06/06/2022 09:07

"But he's bloody teflon. Nothing sticks."

I think we can all agree that six months on, partygate stuck.

LittleBearPad · 06/06/2022 09:09

mumda · 06/06/2022 08:53

Who do you want instead?

That's the question the MPs need to answer.

No it’s not. That’s the next question that will become clearer over the next few weeks if they vote against Boris tonight.

First question is do you think the country and party are well served by a liar who will never ever put either ahead of his own interests and has no plan other than creating divisive dog whistle policies; and if appealing to their self interest a liar who will lose the next election.

But they are an ERG headbanger who's so dim they probably have trouble walking and talking simultaneously, never mind having an independent thought. An absolutely useless lump of lobby-fodder.
