Boris no confidence vote…he’s going to win isn’t he?

Spineless MPs….then he’ll limp along doing even more attention seeking stunts.

Of course he'll win. His devoted little cronies (and/or his Russian backers, despite what might be being displayed in public on the Ukraine/Russia front) will ensure it. I genuinely don't know what could remove this creature from public "office", short of a serious health crisis (and no, I don't mean that nonsensical clapping in his underpants display when he "caught Covid").

If I went with my heart I'd vote Green, but in a FPTP system there's no point, until we have PR, it's just wasting a vote, unless you live somewhere like Brighton. So in the meantime, I'll vote for whoever is likely to get this bunch of malevolent, self-interested, borderline Fascist monsters out. What does bewilder me is how those who keep voting them into power can't see that they are, at best, complicit, and at worst, colluding/collaborating with policies that are damaging, inhumane and disadvantage those who have been stupid enough to be born poor/black/disabled/female and not of the Tory breeding class. (Anyone who bleats, "But at least the Tories know what a female is" really might like to take a look at their actual policies and the effects. Unless they're one of the Tory breeding class, obviously.)

One thing that does worry me is who the heck is going to replace this - egregore - if he does finally end up realising how despised he is. PM Patel, anyone? I never thought the day would come when I'd seriously think Jeremy Hunt was a better, more humane option for the Tories than what we've got now.

P00rKids · 06/06/2022 10:00

For me if it had to be anyone it would be Theresa May again (without the Brexit stuff). But I’m voting Green next election. Not done that for years (and not happy with their policies either) but my protest vote will be partly for environmental reasons. No other option.

Why not vote for whoever is best placed to oust the Tories in your constituency? That's a far more powerful 'protest vote' than simply throwing your vote away

SeemsSoUnfair · 06/06/2022 10:12

He will survive. He is opening allowing tories free reign to pillage and increase their own wealth while people struggle to feed their children. They have never had so much unfettered power, why would the tories want that to stop?

zafferana · 06/06/2022 10:12

I really wish he'd go. He's damaging his party and the country by staying. I'd much rather have Jeremy Hunt or Nadhim Zahawi, both of whom seem to be front-runners and either of whom would be infinitely better. Boris was elected by Brexiteers to get Brexit done, and he did that, but we now need a principled, competent PM to take us forward. We've been through so much shit in the past five years, it would be really good to have a fresh new PM, untainted by Brexit and the disgrace of 'one rule for us, one for you' lockdown parties.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 06/06/2022 10:08

Or he could lose and they could replace him with Truss. That would have excellent comical value.

I wouldn't get any laughs from that dead-eyed robot being incharge.

They're literally like rats at a rubbish tip/ pigs at a trough. It's disgusting

Peregrina · 06/06/2022 10:14

The reason he'll win is because there's no one obvious to replace him

Thatcher had an obvious replacement, but it wasn't John Major, it was Heseltine.
I can't believe that the Tory Party can't muster people who would be competent as PM. There is no need to look to the current Cabinet because they are lightweights who are only in position because they support Johnson, but I am sure there are some from previous administrations.

theworldhas · 06/06/2022 10:14

@CapMarvel
thats about the size of it. Though I’d argue he’s done his damage, as has his Brexit, and the Tory’s decade of austerity. The best thing for the country as a whole is that he stays in power and stinks the place out and then, maybe, we can get a new government at the next election to begin the slow, slow rebuilding process. Jobs with proper wages, affordable homes, functioning public services. All will be more difficult thanks to Brexit of course, but that ship has sailed.

Prettypussy · 06/06/2022 10:17

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing is a set up to secure his position for the foreseeable future. Some of the letters are probably from his supporters in order to trigger the vote so they can then vote for confidence.

CapMarvel · 06/06/2022 10:17

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 06/06/2022 10:09

If he goes there isn't anyone decent to replace him, so nothing will change. What we need is a GE not a VONC

Not true, there are a few decent tories but none who are stupid enough to take on the role and/or would have any degree of support.

Boris has surrounded himself with idiots and yes-people, and is dragging the party down with him. Unfortunately that also means dragging the UK down into the gutter too, but most of them don't care about that.

donquixotedelamancha · 06/06/2022 10:17

There are lots of perfectly capable people in both main parties.

I don't think that's nearly as true as it was. I think you could have picked any senior minister from the Blair years and they have been a capable PM but the last 5-10 years has seen a shocking number of lightweights and outright idiots in the cabinet and shadow cabinet.

How the fuck did Chris Grayling, Michael Green Grant Shaps, Pritti Patel and Gavin Williamson ever become Secretaries of State?

The whole party is tainted by brexit, and will be until it's no longer career suicide for a tory mp to say 'actually, brexit has major downsides and we need to be honest about that'.

MrsMariaReynolds · 06/06/2022 10:18

I sincerely hope you're wrong, and he's a goner. (Doubt it.) Either way, I'm sure Liz Truss is shining her shoes...

theworldhas · 06/06/2022 10:20

The irony is that Theresa May was more impressive than Johnson on every metric imaginable AND her Brexit would have been economically better for 99% of Britains than the one Johnson delivered. Most Tory PMs know this but voted for the clown Johnson anyway, as they knew his clown character resonated more with the public and would get them into government. Johnson wasn’t a mistake, rather the Tory MPs literally put their own careers over what they knew was the greater good of the country.

I do think he definitely benefits from the vote being now, rather than after the by elections in a couple of weeks.

donquixotedelamancha · 06/06/2022 10:23

I agree. She was only the second worst PM the UK has ever had.

Mumoblue · 06/06/2022 10:24

I think he’ll win, because the Tories do not care about what anyone thinks.
I can only hope that them keeping that stupid pile of cottage cheese in power will make some people consider not voting for them again.

SleeplessInEngland · 06/06/2022 10:25

Yeah, let's not starty mythologising May. Her cowardice in the face of rebels and unwillingness to find cross-party solutions to reflect what the majority actually wanted set the precedent for the shit we're dealing with today.

HesterShaw1 · 06/06/2022 10:25

Yes of course he's going to win.

But it always starts like this.

I disagree about Theresa May. She had a poisoned chalice, was screwed over by her MPs, and has stayed on to serve her constituents, and is very outspoken on the back benches.

zafferana · 06/06/2022 10:27

SleeplessInEngland · 06/06/2022 10:18

The whole party is tainted by brexit, and will be until it's no longer career suicide for a tory mp to say 'actually, brexit has major downsides and we need to be honest about that'.

A lot of Labour MPs voted for Brexit too though, don't forget, because Brexit was really popular among certain specific demographics within the country that crossed party lines and affiliations. So I disagree that the whole party is tainted by Brexit - many Conservative MPs were active members of the 'Remain' campaign, if you recall.

I'm really torn.

Obviously the prospect of the tories ripping themselves apart is hugely appealing, but the fact is another 2 years of the current government will be massively damaging to the UK. We are sleepwalking into facism under Johnson.

P00rKids · 06/06/2022 10:27

Labour are never winning anything with any of their mp’s or the “policies” discussed by them or their voters. What the hell are they even doing?!!

Peregrina · 06/06/2022 10:30

I meant from the backbenchers - certainly not the current Cabinet. To the names above add "the sea was closed Raab", Braverman, Truss.

I am sure that if May was brought back into a Cabinet position she would be Competent. Not the Home Office though.

HesterShaw1 · 06/06/2022 10:30

Prime Minster Hunt or Zahawi 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

But they're the only ones who don't make me want to emigrate tomorrow.

BorisJohnsonatemyhampster · 06/06/2022 10:31

It wasn’t the 200k Covid deaths, the handing out of contracts to mates and other corrupt practices involving tax payers money, nor the bungling of Brexit and cost of living crisis that his fellow MPs had an issue with. No it was some royalists booing.

They are disgusting and their collective treachery of the British people will not be forgotten or forgiven if they remove their figurehead. Luckily his removal will mean the likes of Patel, Rees-Mogg, Francois and Dories will never work again.
