Who decided to exclude Adele, Ed Sheeran, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, shanties, Morris Dancers etc from the Jubilee Party?

Who made the decision to hire so many American performers and novices?

Andrea Bocelli was fantastic, but aren't there excellent British opera singers who could have participated e.g. Russell Watson?

What was the criteria for inclusion, who set it and why?

It was me. Soz.

The organisers.

Maybe he didn't fancy doing it or wasn't free.

What makes you think Mumsnet will know?

BorgQueen · 05/06/2022 10:28

It was a very odd mix.
That Adam Lambert bloke with Queen, jesus he loves himself, not a particularly strong voice either, got the impression he’d be happiest in front of a mirror.
Robbie/take that would have been great but he was performing last night at Port Vale.
I hadn’t heard of half the performers .

toomuchlaundry · 05/06/2022 10:29

Isn’t Ed Sheeran involved today? I assume some of the other things you mentioned like Morris Dancers might also be involved in the pageant

Antarcticant · 05/06/2022 10:31

I don't know, is the short answer.

I can speculate - and my speculation would be that there was a strong wish to make the concert appealing to the younger generation - hence the inclusion of so many 'of the moment' performers who an old hippie like me has never heard of .

This was balanced by some 'classic' names and performers who the Royals are fond of, such as Diana Ross for Charles and Andrew L-W for Her Maj.

What was missing was the 1990s!

CuriousCatfish · 05/06/2022 10:34

I'm surprised Macca wasn't there and Gary Barlow. They are usually first in the queue for a Queenie gig.

Adam Lambert was fantastic. Amazing voice.

dudsville · 05/06/2022 10:34

I agree with @Lockheart , but also agree that the mix has been odd. I also found it odd the Tom Cruise had such a key role. But they are all celebrities in my book, publicly funded or not, they're all performers, and from that point of view it makes sense for me.

justfiveminutes · 05/06/2022 10:35

Ed Sheeran is performing at the pageant today. They haven't revealed the full list so maybe some of those you mention will be there.

Antarcticant · 05/06/2022 10:35

I'm surprised Macca wasn't there

Isn't he on tour in the States or something at the moment?

HappyToSmile · 05/06/2022 10:36

You can't please all the people all of the time?
Maybe others were invited but couldn't or didn't want to do it, maybe they wanted a certain mix to appeal to a varied audience?
I thought it was so well put together, sure, there were a few acts I wasn't so keen on, but thought that was just normal.
Ed Sheeran is involved today and Adam Lambert has been singing with Queen for years!

tobedtoMN · 05/06/2022 10:37

Morris Dancers? Really?? 🤣

Sparklingbrook · 05/06/2022 10:37

Don’t know but we owe whoever decided not to include Macca, shanties and Morris dancers. 😂

But a noisy rendition of ‘ Bitch’ by the Rolling Stones would have been a better finale than Diana Ross.

chchchchch · 05/06/2022 10:37

Honestly that lot (in your title) have been rolled out enough time over the years in various publicly organised concerts so it was nice to see some new faces.

Although Celeste was a bit marginal (being polite) and I was not impressed with Diana Ross miming but at 78 I guess you have to cut herself some slack.

Merryclaire · 05/06/2022 10:37

Adam Lambert has a good voice but Freddie was one of the greatest front men ever, and watching Queen perform without him just makes me feel sad.

Antarcticant · 05/06/2022 10:37

Also, they probably wanted it to be distinct from the Diamond Concert - no accusations of it being a carbon copy of the 2012.

mustlovegin · 05/06/2022 10:37

Yes, Thake That, Cold Play, so much talent missing.

This event would have been organised ages ago. Surely these bands would have prioritised the Jubilee if they had been invited

It will very basically come down to who wants to do it. The organisers will approach agents of performers, and they will check in with managers and artists who will say they are either interested or not. Whether they are interested or not will often come down to whether they are currently performing, have a set list, need the publicity, are in the country, are not already booked, if they are currently employing a band etc.

Then the organising will pick from those available. Adele would have been great but she didn't get her show for vegas ready so who knows what's happening there.

mustlovegin · 05/06/2022 10:39

Maybe he didn't fancy doing it or wasn't free

Not buying it, sorry

fruitbrewhaha · 05/06/2022 10:39

Coldplay are touring in the US now

Ponoka7 · 05/06/2022 10:40

I also think that it was done to appeal to the younger generations. Paul McCartney usually performs at all royal events. He's 80 this month, so perhaps that's a factor. Although Tom Jones is still going strong. It's better to wait and see what they've planned for today.

Sparklingbrook · 05/06/2022 10:40

Maybe some asked who else was performing and politely declined.

grapewines · 05/06/2022 10:41

Maybe they didn't want to participate?

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 05/06/2022 10:42

Florence and the Machine would have been fantastic, but maybe she's not a royalist?
I suspect some of the performers just had amazing agents.

jubileetrain · 05/06/2022 10:42

Oh I'm so glad somebody else sees what I see. He has been bigged up so much but I thought he was awful. His aesthetic (this may not be the right word Blush) doesn't fit with queen at all, his vocal is mediocre and his self love is off putting.

Newgirls · 05/06/2022 10:43

Ed Sheeran was playing in Manchester I think
