Who decided to exclude Adele, Ed Sheeran, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, shanties, Morris Dancers etc from the Jubilee Party?

Who made the decision to hire so many American performers and novices?

Andrea Bocelli was fantastic, but aren't there excellent British opera singers who could have participated e.g. Russell Watson?

What was the criteria for inclusion, who set it and why?

Probably a combination of factors
Who was available
A mix of eras
Performers that the royals like (MM is a big Hamilton fan, so that may have been a nod to her and Harry).
Appealing to a broad audience

Theres always someone I don’t particularly enjoy in a variety show but that’s when I pop to the loo

What’s this pageant today? Is it on the TV I want to watch and tut my way through like last night.

BigWoollyJumpers · 05/06/2022 11:32

Perhaps Paul McCartney wasn't there because he did such a shit performance closing off the last jubilee concert. Like Rod Steward, and Diana Ross, he can no longer hold a note, and thank god he wasn't there as well.

PortalooSunset · 05/06/2022 11:33

I believe Russell Watson is still touring with Chicago (certainly was earlier this year and I believe the tour was year long). I guess many people weren't willing to give up the day job. Or simply weren't invited?
Maybe the Queen herself chose who she wanted?

Macca can play drums and guitar so he could have been included in some capacity if they wanted him even if not singing Hey Judy Judy Jude…

Bbc 1 from 1pm. No idea what's involved though.

Fantastic. Please let there be a thread 😂

Ed Sheeran was already performing in Sunderland.

Yes but this was organised well in advance so they could have asked him when he was free.

You think they should have rearranged the jubilee concert around Ed Sheeran’s availability? Or do you mean this was arranged before his tour? Wouldn’t bank on it. Maybe he was asked and prioritised his tour anyway. Who cares!

Me looking like this 🙄 and 🤬if last night was anything to go by.

DisforDarkChocolate · 05/06/2022 11:35

Russell Watson is in no way an opera singer. There is absolutely no comparison between him and Andrea Bocelli.

Paul McCartney was the low point of the last Jubilee concert, he hasn't sang well since about 1985.

I thought it was great.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/06/2022 11:35

I can understand the organisers wanting a different line-up this time

Me too, and as an old gimmer I can even understand them including people who few over 25 have even heard of - but why the heavy use of US performers at the expense of our own?

Much as I love the US they're hardly monarchists; for that matter neither am I, but it would have been nice to see more of our own people at a thing like this

Maybe they chose some of the Queen's favourites?

Sparklingbrook · 05/06/2022 11:37

If you’re going to Russell Watson you may as well get Michael Ball out.

the biggest mistake was having Nile Rogers there playing with Duran Duran (who were fine) rather than doing a bunch of Chic party classics that everyone would have loved

Nike Rodgers produced Rio and has been involved in some of their newer stuff, hence his inclusion with Duran Duran's section. But yes, DD could've segued into a kind of chic/DD cover of 'le Chic' couldn't they? That might've been fun!

Sparklingbrook · 05/06/2022 11:12

Yes, I wasn’t wowed by last night’s line up but neither would I have been by Take That/Robbie Williams/Adele or Ed Sheeran. Although at least they are British.
Music is very personal. I’d have enjoyed some Pulp, Pet Shop Boys and Liam Gallagher 😂

Well yes, I'd have loved to have seen Pulp but I'm not sure Jarvis is a fan of royalty. Same with Paul Weller and the Gallaghers.
Gary Barlow still has the whiff of tax evasion about him.

jubileetrain · 05/06/2022 11:38

Sometimes I feel like I'm living in an entirely different world, this comment is a good example of why.

Crikeyalmighty · 05/06/2022 11:39

Paul McCartney is on tour in USA- anyone currently touring wouldn't be available- some people won't participate if they have strong 'technical' needs (many bands do) -

I work in music -It's not as simple as saying why doesn't xxx appear - it can be all kinds of reasons- someone is on holiday, someone on tour, someone doesn't want to appear for 2 songs- etc, etc and I was told this was put together fairly last minute too

I think he came along around the Reflex era, a bit later didn’t he?

Crikeyalmighty · 05/06/2022 11:41

I am really not into Nile and Chic either- however he clearly has a good PR as he's hyped to death.

CuriousCatfish · 05/06/2022 11:42

Elbow were as boring as ever.

He produced Notorious.

PortalooSunset · 05/06/2022 11:43

@Sparklingbrook 😂 There was a bit of that here lady night too. We had a well timed thunderstorm though so were busily watching out of the window when Diana Ross was wheeled on 😂

LetHimHaveIt · 05/06/2022 11:43

Diana Ross wasn't even much of a singer in 60s, so God knows why she was asked to do this. Reed-thin vocals; completely out of tune. Horrendous.

I'm not a huge Adam Lambert fan, but the idea that Robbie Williams is a better singer/performer? Do me a favour.
