Who decided to exclude Adele, Ed Sheeran, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, shanties, Morris Dancers etc from the Jubilee Party?

Who made the decision to hire so many American performers and novices?

Andrea Bocelli was fantastic, but aren't there excellent British opera singers who could have participated e.g. Russell Watson?

What was the criteria for inclusion, who set it and why?

You cannot call Diana Ross ‘inadequate’ - c’mon.

Her performance last night was exactly that. I think too many people are viewing this on who she is and what she has done, because she has had a massive career and in her time was an incredible artist, but last night she can only be described as inadequate, she wasn't up to the job, I was so disappointed, but equally I'm able to see it for what it was.

I saw her live back in the 90s. She was such a perfectionist she stopped halfway through a song to tweak the sound. I think she will have hated what happened last night.

As for the "missing" artists, Macca sounds bloody awful live these days. I would pay not to see him. Adele has proved herself unreliable, which is a pity as I'm sure she would have been great. Ed Sheeran is on today etc etc.

Good point made by a pp regarding rearranged tours etc.

There was no way on earth Robbie Williams was going to postpone his homecoming gig again to play one song or two at the Jubilee.

I haven’t seen yet it as my sons band was playing a gig last night but I heard artists were struggling to hear themselves. Several of my daughters friends were performing with one of the west end shows so I might hear more over the next few days.

Robbie/take that would have been great but he was performing last night at Port Vale

Yes, Thake That, Cold Play, so much talent missing.

This event would have been organised ages ago. Surely these bands would have prioritised the Jubilee if they had been invited

Sorry, just checking I understand - you are complaining that Take That and Coldplay didn't perform?

Neena86 · 05/06/2022 12:06

Ed Sheeran is on tour. I saw him Fri night. He was also playing Saturday night at the same place

chunkymandarincoulis · 05/06/2022 12:08

If they had included everybody it would have gone on rather a long time, wouldn't it?

jolietomate · 05/06/2022 12:09

Another issue worth considering is the matter of big name bands/performers and their egos. If it’s a multi-performer bill, some will either demand being the opening or closing act and won’t settle for playing at any other point in the line-up.

Onlyforcake · 05/06/2022 12:11

Queen = too elderly to carry out all of her "role" MN fawn all over her. A singer, who needs help onto the stage doesn't meet their expectations- bitch about her all day. Is it because she's the paid entertainment? Or something else?

BobbinHood · 05/06/2022 12:11

KatherineJaneway · 05/06/2022 11:44

I am saying this was not a last minute thing so if they wanted him they could have asked a long time ago when he maybe wasn't busy. Maybe they did and he didn't want to do it.

Tours aren’t last minute things either. A lot of these things will have been booked for years. Anyway, isn’t he on the jubilee thing today? Why would he do both? Why would we want him to do both?

Elbow were as boring as ever.

I got confused and wondered why Ricky Gervais was there

The Queen didn't turn up and do a bad job, she recognised that she wasn't able. Diana Ross however...

BobbinHood · 05/06/2022 12:17

I would have swopped Diana Ross to the opening act and Queen & Adam Lambert to be the closing one. He’s no Freddie Mercury but he is a brilliant singer and performer, the rest of the band are as good as ever and the crowd were obviously loving it. They’re still an iconic British band whoever is fronting. Plus it felt like a nod back to the golden jubilee concert.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/06/2022 12:18

Just to note the actual pageant kicks off at 14:30, the 'from 1pm' is likely to be a load of waffle first

Blast, and I've organised lunch to allow for a 1pm start Hmm
Should have known though ...

Yes, I agree with this.

What the finale lacked was the 'singalong' factor.

Even the terrible 'Sweet Caroline' would have been a better choice to end with - I hate it personally but its popularity means everyone knows the words, and it was supposedly the 'song for the Queen' so would have been a fitting end.

I agree there could have been some other guests I’d have like to see but there is always a place on the stage for Andrea Bocelli🙂

I'm surprised Macca wasn't there and Gary Barlow. They are usually first in the queue for a Queenie gig. i didnt miss them at all.

Isn’t macca at Glastonbury? Maybe the Glastonbury organisers didn’t want a mass demand for refunds this late in the game…………

sunshinesupermum · 05/06/2022 12:24

Can't stand Adam Lambert. Not a patch on Freddie but thinks he is.

I am guessing Adele and Sheeran either passed or were too expensive?

I've no idea. I can tell you my own dislike of Ross comes from the fact that she was the least talented member of The Supremes, and yet she managed to marginalize Ballard and Wilson by the simple expedient of carrying out an affair with Berry Gordy. Not much of a singer and never has been. Certainly not a legend. She wasn't bad in 'LSTB', tbf (not worth the Oscar nom, but not bad) but pretty shit in everything else she's been in.

And the Queen is nearly 20 years older than Ross.

PuppyMonkey · 05/06/2022 12:24

I quite enjoyed last night’s show precisely because it was so WTF.Grin

Alicia Keyes singing about New York at such a momentous occasion with all the union jacks on show. Prince George looking like a right grumpy arse. The crap rendition of Climb Every Mountain where you couldn’t even see who it was singing .And then it ending up being Nicola Thingy from Girls Aloud.

What larks.Grin

Just watching Diana Ross now, thought she was really good for an almost 80 yr old!

Stevienickssnickers · 05/06/2022 12:27

I'd imagine they couldn't afford Adele.

Jalepenojello · 05/06/2022 12:27

Ed’s been in Sunderland doing stadium shows the last 2 nights

PuppyMonkey · 05/06/2022 12:28

Oh yeah and the way it just abruptly ended with Diana Ross miming.Grin

You are hearing the recorded version of the vocal, not a live performance.

Christ you couldn't have trusted Adele to show up. She'd send a gurning sobbing Instagram post instead about how much she loves the Queen but her outfit wasn't ready in time Hmm

Came on here to say this too!

LondonWolf · 05/06/2022 12:34

I think pushing back on the UK is a racist country narrative, probably played a part in how this was organised.
