Who decided to exclude Adele, Ed Sheeran, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, shanties, Morris Dancers etc from the Jubilee Party?

Who made the decision to hire so many American performers and novices?

Andrea Bocelli was fantastic, but aren't there excellent British opera singers who could have participated e.g. Russell Watson?

What was the criteria for inclusion, who set it and why?

Ed Sheeran had other commitments, and needs to be in training for his role as the Ipswich Town FC player number 17.

Agree with the sentiment about the choice of performers though, if you are to reflect the change of music and the UK contribution (where we punch above our weight in the world) then not only should folk and sea shanties have been included, but also grime. Stormzy for example.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 05/06/2022 11:44

Maybe the Queen is an Adam Lambert fan.😆

PortalooSunset · 05/06/2022 11:44

*last not lady 🙄

You think they should have rearranged the jubilee concert around Ed Sheeran’s availability? Or do you mean this was arranged before his tour? Wouldn’t bank on it. Maybe he was asked and prioritised his tour anyway. Who cares!

I am saying this was not a last minute thing so if they wanted him they could have asked a long time ago when he maybe wasn't busy. Maybe they did and he didn't want to do it.

KatherineJaneway · 05/06/2022 11:46

Duran Duran with Nile Rodgers=great performance

But why choose Notorious? It didn't get to number one and they have far more famous songs they could have sung.

MelonsMelonsMelons · 05/06/2022 11:46

I’m waiting for someone twist this into being Meghan’s fault.

Antarcticant · 05/06/2022 11:47

Bbc 1 from 1pm. No idea what's involved though.

Just to note the actual pageant kicks off at 14:30, the 'from 1pm' is likely to be a load of waffle first.

bloodyplanes · 05/06/2022 11:47

Diana Ross, Rod Stewart and celeste were bloody awful!

CPL593H · 05/06/2022 11:47

It struck me that if anyone tried to do a Live Aid equivalent today, they'd have a hard job. The weakest performers that day were streets ahead, IMO. Don't know, perhaps the now old dinosaurs like the Who and the Stones were still well able to do it and there was a lot of younger "choice".

catsonahottinroof · 05/06/2022 11:53

I haven't watched anything about the Jubilee, apart from the clip of the Queen with paddington, but surely the exclusion of Ed Sheeran, Adele and Paul McCartney at least is a good thing?

JustTheOneSwan · 05/06/2022 11:54

Anything less than the Pistols with BigLiz laughing at them would disappoint.
I think they tried to please too many.

abigailsnan · 05/06/2022 11:55

I would have liked to have seen Tom Jones in the mix his voice is as good as ever he puts Macca to shame with his voice.

Merryclaire · 05/06/2022 10:37

Adam Lambert has a good voice but Freddie was one of the greatest front men ever, and watching Queen perform without him just makes me feel sad.

I thought he, Adam Lambert, was awful, never heard of him before and I'll be happy never to hear him again! Diana Ross also was dreadful too, can't understand why she did the big closing number.

He is playing today

That's why I've recorded everything, fast forward through all the talking heads, far too much.

Thanks for that @Antarcticant ! Can definitely do without all the preamble guff!

Not sure Apdele would be reliable enough at the moment. You wouldn't want to promite her as headlining for her to pull out at the 11th hour.

GrandRapids · 05/06/2022 11:59

Adam Lambert is mediocre imo. However I think Sam Ryder would do a cracking job!

Samcro · 05/06/2022 12:00

some of it was dreadful, much as I like rod. he should not have done sweet caroline, Elton was not there. Diana ross was dreadful.
should have had Stormsy close the night.

Sshhhh... don't tell people that. it reduces tutting time!

HazelBite · 05/06/2022 12:01

I think its a shame that Tom Jones wasn't performing instead of Rod Stewart, He is one whose voice has improved as he has got older.
Diana Ross was not a good finale, it would have been better to have had perhaps all the company or a millitary choir singing "Isn't she lovely" or something similar.
I did enjoy it though, found the expressions on the faces of the Cambridge DC's really entertaining.

Onlyforcake · 05/06/2022 12:01

They had to be lizard approved 😉

Turnthatoff · 05/06/2022 12:02

The Sones are on tour. I saw them last week. Mick was prancing around like he was 40. Hard to believe he’s older than prince Charles!

RepublicOfNarnia · 05/06/2022 12:03

No idea why Alicia Keys got involved!! She shouldn't have been there. She's a huge star!!

etulosba · 05/06/2022 12:04

Adele has a mouth like a toilet, so I’m not surprised she wasn’t there.
