Why do people post this? If you don’t believe a poster, report them. Troll hunting is tedious for everyone. It is as tedious as posters who fancy themselves as a trainee Miss Marple. Cross examining the OP to an absurd degree to try and pick holes in their post. People have the option to report and should leave it at that.

???
Your language is a little overwrought so I'm having trouble fathoming ... who is being refused help?

ShirleyPhallus · 01/06/2022 16:46

KettrickenSmiled · 01/06/2022 13:39

To be fair, Our @ShirleyPhallus IS a sharp-minded poster OP.

Plus, I agree it's helpful to see some cynical push-back on threads that are getting people frothing on what looks like an invention or pretext. That's free speech, not troll-hunting.

That’s really kind, thank you Smile

Flymetothezoom · 01/06/2022 17:06

@KettrickenSmiled if people post for help with a difficult situation and instead of help they are doubted and accused of lying, then they won’t come back to MN for help.

I am not sure why you find this so confusing.

Mumsnet rules? Nope - I don't recognise the "rules" of an organisation that survives on free content provided by PP but has a highly contradictory & selective approach to enforcing PP speech.
If MN need to ban me for calling someone a lying CF, so be it.

Could you explain how you know 100% someone is lying? You must be so much more intelligent than the rest of us.

Thanks, I am, & NO, that is a trade secret & I doubt you can afford my fees.

Doxxing now, @Flymetothezoom?

@KettrickenSmiled I would
rather a hundred trolls were indulged than one person refused help because of over eager troll hunters.

Which means you are happy with the consequential hundreds of MNers suckered into giving money, goods sharing their own pain or grief on an issue in the belief they are helping someone in genuine need rather than a troll or pervert or the latest goady MRA.

Yes who gives a hoot about any of those women?

Interesting rules for a discussion forum - you must not post unless you unquestioningly agree with and support the OP. I seem to have missed that in the talk guidelines but it not just opening a door for trolls, its lying down to be walked over.

Flymetothezoom · 01/06/2022 18:35

@biwi I think for it to be doxing it would have to contain at least one identifying detail, which my post didn’t. She is happy enough to slate MN posters on Reddit. Now she is all shy about it, how odd.

I'm glad you didn't mind being accused of being a troll, LastGirl, but your personal views are largely by the by, there are site rules and no troll hunting is one of those rules and as I said, with good reason - I've seen a board all but killed off because one poster (honestly) discovered someone sock puppeting once. She became obsessed that socks and trolls existed everywhere - if a newish poster happened to agree with another newish poster then they were a troll/sock, and this wasn't like MN where concerns would be passed on.

Naturally, new people stopped participating, as they were hounded off (the woman was well respected and when she shouted TROLL people agreed.) Of course, the only new posters she liked were those who cosied up to her! Result - it was a one woman show, the forum died and now, nearly a decade after all that, it still is like a ghost town.

I hate trolling and I think we can all agree that the troll thread you're referring to is possibly the 'worst' of its type, but nonetheless, one day there will be someone who genuinely posts because her child is seriously ill, so we do need to do as its said on the tin, pass concerns to MNHQ and let them sort it.

Doxxing now, @Flymetothezoom?

May I asked WTF I just missed, @BIWI ?

Or what the reference to Reddit is about, & who the "she" referred to at 18:35 is?

Apologies for unilaterally appointing you as my PA, I am too bewildered to fathom it solo ... cheque's cancelled in the post 😂

Your (allegedly doxxing) post was deleted before I came back @Flymetothezoom but reading between the lines & obsfuscating pronouns I'm guessing you had some kind of personal pop at someone, & that someone must be, going by the order of the posts/deletions ... me?

You are welcome to private message me if you think I'm someone you recognise, although how on earth you've come to that conclusion about a PP who doesn't use Reddit is bizarre, & how I'd prove I'm not some Reddit troll I dunno ... perhaps you should report me to mumsnet?

Foxcubs · 01/06/2022 21:13

I find troll hunters a bit odd tbh. I class then with the strange vigilant groups one sees on Facebook. Often over invested and possibly lonely. Also I suspect they troll themselves. I doubt they are nice people who genuinely care about randoms on the internet.

I find people who troll the internet for attention even odder. I do think they must be the lonely ones who enjoy the cheerleaders and fake sympathy.

Both are really. If your life gains meaning from trolling or troll hunting then it’s all very sad. Imaginary policing the internet or trolling is to be pitied.

@Flymetothezoom Still not applied to join the MNHQ moderation team?

The irony @BIWI 🤣

gingercirdial · 02/06/2022 00:35

I think you must spend every waking moment on Mumsnet.

BIWI · 02/06/2022 01:01

Yes @gingercirdial I have a badge and everything!

gingercirdial · 02/06/2022 01:08

Even after you were temp banned? 🤣. That's nice of them.

ValerieCupcake · 02/06/2022 01:11

Womencanlift · 31/05/2022 09:24

“Did ye aye” is just the written form of 🙄. I wouldn’t class it as troll hunting

I do agree picking holes or worse still looking back at poster’s previous posts to find inconsistencies is tedious

Cool story bro. That's another I've seen. But not here.

knittingaddict · 02/06/2022 06:54

CreamyBruley · 31/05/2022 09:43

The Mumsnet attitude of troll hunters being worse than trolls has massively contributed to its decline. The vast majority of threads are very obviously trolling bollocks.

Yes! Agree with every word of this.

knittingaddict · 02/06/2022 07:07

Flymetothezoom · 01/06/2022 09:32

The rules are clear on MN. No troll hunting, just report it. Why do troll hunters think the rules don’t apply to them?

Because it's a stupid rule. Also, it's a rule, not a law.
