Did ye aye?

Why do people post this? If you don’t believe a poster, report them. Troll hunting is tedious for everyone. It is as tedious as posters who fancy themselves as a trainee Miss Marple. Cross examining the OP to an absurd degree to try and pick holes in their post. People have the option to report and should leave it at that.

OP posts:

Justanotherlurker · 31/05/2022 22:04

and then everybody clapped

Thats a recent meme, and does have kind of a different meaning to just questioning the validity, it was birthed from multiple social media posts virtue signalling.

It has it's place and should be used more on MN for some of the obvious posts but it is slightly different in context IMO

Version I’m used to is “and then everybody on the bus stood up and clapped”, and is less to do with virtue signalling and more to do with “witty comeback you wish you’d thought of at the time” being presented as what actually happened.

Sodthatforagameofsoldiers · 31/05/2022 22:14

You did in your hole is amazing 😄

I love did ye aye (and all the variations) to be honest. If you're going to post absolute shite, a wee bit of fairly gentle incredulous ribbing is the best you can expect in response. Plus I'm mega gullible so someone more streetwise posting 'chinny reckon' gives me a heads up that the poster may be spinning us a yarn and my long, thoughtful and deeply personal oversharing response may be unnecessary.

@buckeejit ”did ye aye” is the same as saying you think the OP is lying, of course it is troll hunting.

Not necessarily.

The way people from the wider Glasgow area sometimes use it (like Kevin Bridges, referenced earlier) is to mean: you are talking a load of pretentious fuckin' shite to big yourself up you tedious, egotistical, exaggerating wanker.

Changechangychange · 31/05/2022 22:19

The great thing about “chinny reckon” is that it is so fantastically juvenile that it punctures any pomposity from the OP instantly.

DramaAlpaca · 31/05/2022 22:25

I got my only ever MN deletion in years of being on here for responding Confused to a dodgy sounding OP which was allowed to stand.

It was definitely dodgy.

I'm not sure if I'm just a bit naive and gullible, but I've never seen a post which I've thought must be made up. What kind of things do people post and why? Why would someone make up a dead child? For what end result?? Confused!

Goodness, yes you are both naive and gullible!

ClinkeyMonkey · 31/05/2022 22:30

buckeejit · 31/05/2022 21:10

Aye dead on.

Ha! I was going to say that🤣🤣

grapewines · 31/05/2022 22:31

Nah. Trolls need to be called on their BS while we wait for MN to react to reports. But you clearly don't like posters not agreeing with you going by your responses on this thread.

Justanotherlurker · 31/05/2022 22:40

It's actually based in an Imaginary situation of someone saying something horrible and the protaganist was the only one to step up and speak out, everyone else was to afraid to say something but they suddenly clapped, it's the meme of 'they was albert einstein', it's an old meme that has a specific meaning that is calling out bullshit but on a different slant, it isn't used enough on this forum as there is lot that is blatent

"Did ye aye" is great. I'd love it if this thread became a catalogue of all the different regional ways of communicating this sentiment.
So far we have did ye aye, chinny reckon, yeah right and pants on fire. Any more?

Where I live it's "did ye fuck" 😂

iklboo · 31/05/2022 22:57

Aye yer did an' yer mam an' all

Like Dickie Biscuit you did

My nan's two favourites. ☺️

iklboo · 31/05/2022 23:01

I will do as I please

As will we 😉

Flymetothezoom · 31/05/2022 23:15

@grapewines does anyone enjoy people not agreeing with them?

So where do the troll defenders stand on the scammers and the dead and dying fake children? @Flymetothezoom

Those could just be reported too, @PAFMO - just as the OP said. But you keep on virtue signalling.

Takes a special kind of person to think that me thinking lifting photos of real babies and posting them on here calling them Oliver is one sick fuck that deserves to be called out is "virtue signalling"
But then you're no stranger to a bit of infamy round these parts, are you?

You need to lose your shit more often. It's like junk food. You feel terrible afterwards (particularly if MNHQ give you a telling off) but it feels so good at the time.

I've actually reported myself for a couple of personal attacks because I felt bad. Then of course the whole of MNHQ got up and clapped. Obvs.

LoveItOrListIt · 01/06/2022 06:11

Tedious

Really? I don’t know why you would feel so strongly about it. I’d prefer to see bullshit challenged.

Ah, so now you’re not only troll hunting in general, but having a go at me specifically - ironically, without actually saying anything specific.

I think I know all I need to know.

Flymetothezoom · 01/06/2022 09:32

The rules are clear on MN. No troll hunting, just report it. Why do troll hunters think the rules don’t apply to them?

OP posts:
skytoronto · 01/06/2022 09:44

Maybe some people think the rules allow trolls to get away with a lot, and maybe some people think that is daft.
Maybe.

I have never seem these clear rules. Where would one find them please? Is it acceptable to say if I think someone is exaggerating, dramatising or catastrophising as opposed to lying? Because "aye you did" would probably cover those situations as well.

Makes thread to call out troll hunting. Proceeds to troll hunt on her own thread. 🤣
