Why the fuck is Boris Johnson still Prime Minister?

Fucksake. I mean seeing minister after minister wheeled out to defend the indefensible in the media rounds. Do they have no shame? Prattling on about how it was an 'essential part of leadership' to be a Toastmaster to an illegal piss-up. No, leadership was the Queen sat alone at a funeral, like so many of her subjects had to do. Not carrying on with your unprofessional boozy work culture and then have your team crow about how they 'got away with it' when they successfully didn't vomit in front of the cameras there for another press conference telling everyone how important it was to stick to the rules.

Johnson knew it wasn't right to have birthday parties when he personally wrote to a kid saying they were right to not have theirs, but then thought it was just fine to have one of his own and then announce that all rules had been followed to Parliament? (The police disagree, as does anyone who was forced to cancel their own celebrations).

Telling people that it was his duty to have a party for leaving colleagues while at the same time people couldn't be with dying family?

And now they are having the gall to say that he has accepted full responsibility? How? That sort of statement is followed by a resignation, not a 'now let's forget about it and move on'. How has he demonstrated that he has done anything apart from his utmost to weasel out of taking any sort of responsibility, to the point of asking Sue Gray to give up on her report? The report that that he told the rest of us that we had to wait months for the outcome of to find out what he already knew.

He says he wants to deliver what the British people want. Polls said yesterday that a majority want him to resign. Get the fuck on with it then.

But polls also showed that only a tiny minority of people actually believe he has the integrity to do the right thing (learned from bitter experience).

So what, the British people are stuck with this craven, corrupt liar as leader?

Well no. He could be no-confidenced by his MPs. What the fuck are they waiting for? Do they think it is to their benefit to have him shitting over public office every day? 'Oh but they can't think of anyone better'. What exactly does that say about the state of the Tory party if that's true?

Cannot stand seeing his face, hearing his pathetic lies, seeing his shitty schtick any more. JUST FUCK OFF BORIS.

More details emerging (according to The Times) of how the Gray report was doctored before publication:

twitter.com/adambienkov/status/1530627345262219264?s=21&t=GEWXGXUuXlp6zSd5I_2Hlg

Can't say as I'm surprised.

Plantlifeandsoul · 28/05/2022 21:56

This government is corrupt. Devoid of any moral compass or integrity.

We are heading for a police state too - they are pushing the policing bill through that means innocent people can be tagged to prevent them from protesting.

We have huge challenges ahead of us and we need a government that we can trust to lead us through it.

This is a pivotal time in history. War in Europe. Climate crisis. Brexit. Fuel costs. Cost of living. I am so desperate for some grown ups to be in charge.

PLEASE take five minutes to email your MP. This is not about parties. This is about democracy and our future.

ilovesooty · 28/05/2022 21:57

And that Johnson couldn't even get down two flights of stairs for an 8.30am meeting on time and Martin Reynolds lied for him and said he was in meetings when he was actually having an afternoon nap.

And people still think he's fit to govern?

ilovesooty · 28/05/2022 21:58

Great post @Plantlifeandsoul

Plantlifeandsoul · 28/05/2022 22:18

ilovesooty

Thanks 😊

I have written to my MP and encouraged friends and family to - and they are. Some for the first time. Despite the papers trying to get us to move on and the strategically released news of the windfall tax, people are still angry, and rightly so. I think if we value democracy, we can’t let this slide.

Absolutely, seconded!

He needs to get his letter in and show some backbone. I don't much like him but he'd have been a much better choice than Johnson in the first place.

Oh, he won't do that just yet. Far too conscious of keeping his nose clean and his powder dry. Right now, he's singing from the official HQ songsheet and being all sorrowful, but loyal to the Big Dog.
His mates, on the other hand...

Yes, he'd have been a better choice than Johnson. To be honest, it's very hard to think of a worse choice.
Farage, maybe? Yeah, I know: not Conservative. Nor is the current Government, really.

AppleandRhubarbTart · 28/05/2022 22:44

Yes, Hunt will need to play this very carefully if he's to emerge as the alternative option.

Twinsarehardwork · 29/05/2022 07:40

I have an SNP MP but even so, I’m still writing to him to ask if changing the ministerial code is legal! I am disgusted by this Government. The next time Johnston speaks, the audience should rise and stand with their backs to him.

noblegiraffe · 29/05/2022 11:38

Far from allaying fears and making people want to 'move on', the Sue Gray report has increased the number of conservative voters who think that Johnson should resign.

www.conservativehome.com/thetorydiary/2022/05/two-in-five-of-our-party-members-panel-thinks-that-johnson-should-resign-and-hhalf-dont.html

I saw some interesting discussion on Twitter as well about how the Tories aren't going all-out to promote the generosity of their windfall tax policy (instead trumpeting shite like a return to imperial units) because an awful lot of ministers are not happy that the Conservative party are now the party that taxes business.

So Johnson losing support on personal integrity and on economic policy.

Some of you on this thread might have questions for Johnson.... don't miss this opportunity.

www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnet_live_events/4558699-mnhq-here-got-a-question-for-the-prime-minister

Got to figure out how to phrase mine without the swearing.

L1ttledrummergirl · 29/05/2022 12:25

Don't make your question about anything useful or important, I don't think Justine will be allowed to ask it.
I'm not convinced there will even be an honest answere yo the inevitable biscuit question.

I'm going to have to think very carefully about how to phrase mine once I've narrowed it down to one.

newnamethanks · 30/05/2022 06:38

My question would be this thread title.

L1ttledrummergirl · 30/05/2022 07:18

I'd love to ask a question but it keeps telling me the page is missing.
Very irritating.

noblegiraffe · 30/05/2022 09:39

Boris Johnson now the least popular member of his own cabinet, as voted by Tories. Compared to him, even Nadine Dorries appears wildly popular.

Why the fuck is Boris Johnson still Prime Minister?

So, PM, if we don’t like the rules we ignore and then change them?
a good example to set our nation’s young people?

SleeplessInEngland · 30/05/2022 09:52

Johnson is now, by far, the least popular cabinet member among party members, which will be devasting to at least a couple of posters on here. twitter.com/JAHeale/status/1531189521978728448

You can't just ignore and change the rules, but I think it's ok to break the law as long as you do it in a "limited and specific way".😉

I will know more in the week but im being told ministers & aids close to Boris Johnson are threatening a General election “rebels” if they keep submitting letters of no confidence ex... basically saying take me down (PM) & you are going with me.

balalake · 30/05/2022 11:12

@hayley037 that does not surprise me. Or revealing things the Chief Whip knows about to say their local press.

TwinklingFairyLights · 30/05/2022 12:58

Damn, didn't get there in time.

Wanted to ask what the plan is to deal with the impending rail strikes?

Not just for commuters but also freight. Are we going to see food shortages and lights out?

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 30/05/2022 16:49

I've just recieved a reply from my MP and now I'm more furious. What is the fucking point?

'Thank you for contacting me about the gatherings at Downing Street during the pandemic ... blah, blah, blah, humbled, Ukraine, levelling up'

I never even mentioned the fucking gatherings at Downing Street in my email.

SirChenjins · 30/05/2022 17:08

Guaranteed there’s a standard ‘we don’t give a fuck’ letter they’ve all been told to send out in response to complaints @BringBackCoffeeCreams

Absolutely. But it's really piss poor, answering what you want to answer rather than what I've actually asked. I've sent it back now with a note saying they've emailed me the wrong response as that wasn't my enquiry, but not to bother me again as it did make it clear that integrity is dead as far as this shower are concerned.

The first time I've ever contacted my MP in over 50 years and he can't even be arsed to read what I actually wrote. He can fuck right off. I'm not normally a sweary person but right now I have the rage.
