Why the fuck is Boris Johnson still Prime Minister?

noblegiraffe · 26/05/2022 17:18

Fucksake. I mean seeing minister after minister wheeled out to defend the indefensible in the media rounds. Do they have no shame? Prattling on about how it was an 'essential part of leadership' to be a Toastmaster to an illegal piss-up. No, leadership was the Queen sat alone at a funeral, like so many of her subjects had to do. Not carrying on with your unprofessional boozy work culture and then have your team crow about how they 'got away with it' when they successfully didn't vomit in front of the cameras there for another press conference telling everyone how important it was to stick to the rules.

Johnson knew it wasn't right to have birthday parties when he personally wrote to a kid saying they were right to not have theirs, but then thought it was just fine to have one of his own and then announce that all rules had been followed to Parliament? (The police disagree, as does anyone who was forced to cancel their own celebrations).

Telling people that it was his duty to have a party for leaving colleagues while at the same time people couldn't be with dying family?

And now they are having the gall to say that he has accepted full responsibility? How? That sort of statement is followed by a resignation, not a 'now let's forget about it and move on'. How has he demonstrated that he has done anything apart from his utmost to weasel out of taking any sort of responsibility, to the point of asking Sue Gray to give up on her report? The report that that he told the rest of us that we had to wait months for the outcome of to find out what he already knew.

He says he wants to deliver what the British people want. Polls said yesterday that a majority want him to resign. Get the fuck on with it then.

But polls also showed that only a tiny minority of people actually believe he has the integrity to do the right thing (learned from bitter experience).

So what, the British people are stuck with this craven, corrupt liar as leader?

Well no. He could be no-confidenced by his MPs. What the fuck are they waiting for? Do they think it is to their benefit to have him shitting over public office every day? 'Oh but they can't think of anyone better'. What exactly does that say about the state of the Tory party if that's true?

Cannot stand seeing his face, hearing his pathetic lies, seeing his shitty schtick any more. JUST FUCK OFF BORIS.

Do they hold surgeries? I'd be tempted to pitch up and ask when their letter was going in.

I'd be doing that if I lived in a Conservative constituency. I'd contact the local paper as well to say that the MP wasn't responding to constituents' concerns.

L1ttledrummergirl · 28/05/2022 19:54

That's a good idea @ilovesooty I'm not usually a fan of going to the newspapers, but this might be a good time to start.

YADBU
Because he's got good leadership skills and he's very intelligent.

The Guardian is reporting that of the 54 letters of no confidence needed to be submitted to the 1922 committee chair, in order to trigger a leadership contest, a "rebel MP" is saying "“I reckon we are in the 40s" .

ilovesooty · 28/05/2022 20:09

I think that they might reach the threshold after the by elections. There'll be more Tories really worried by then. If decency doesn't make them act, craven self interest might.

Mumwantingtogetitright · 28/05/2022 20:09

I have written to my MP multiple times already, most recently last week. I have long since given up getting any proper response from her. She can't fall back on the excuse that she's waiting for Sue Gray any more so she's just ignoring her constituents instead.

Maybe we need to take to the streets and start marching.

Meh, some Tories are always waiting for ..... as an excuse not to do the decent thing. Police investigation, Sue Gray report, May elections, by elections....then there'd be something else.

I live just down the road from a couple of Conservative constituencies and I have a friend who's very politically active in one of them. I think I'll find out what's going on there.

Wouldn't surprise me. That leaves about 4 weeks for a challenger to emerge too.

Thwomp · 28/05/2022 20:20

I would like to take a moment to apologize to Angela Raynor, having previously criticized her use of a ‘scum’ with respect to this government.

We shouldn’t pretend any different at this stage.

Calafsidentity · 28/05/2022 20:20

Sorry, X posts NobleGiraffe

Sobering reminder in twitter links that if BJ wins VONC we are stuck with him for another year.

JanglyBeads · 28/05/2022 20:27

Yes, a vote of no confidence won't help per de, will it?

I guess it might generate other moves though, eg a proper contender emerging

JanglyBeads · 28/05/2022 20:28

*per se, obviously!

noblegiraffe · 28/05/2022 20:44

A vote of no confidence is a start.

Obviously then it has to be won.

And then a leadership contest.

Johnson isn't going anywhere without that train of events.

ilovesooty · 28/05/2022 20:44

If nothing else Johnson and his corrupt acolytes need to be repeatedly reminded that the issue of his conduct is not going away.

And the electorate, especially those who are prepared to give him their vote need to be repeatedly reminded too.

Tanith · 28/05/2022 21:01

I can make a pretty educated guess at what my Conservative constituency is up to. I see them buzzing about like busy little bees in a hive.

My MP is Jeremy Hunt 😉

L1ttledrummergirl · 28/05/2022 21:01

Our MP has a large glass window at the front of her office.
I've contemplated blowing up a picture of the queen at Prince Philips funeral along with Johnson raising his glass and putting them side by side on the window.
Maybe even include a picture of an ostrich with its head in the sand, or the three monkeys.

He needs to get his letter in and show some backbone. I don't much like him but he'd have been a much better choice than Johnson in the first place.

WanderingFruitWonderer · 28/05/2022 21:18

I actually feel physically sick that there are people still loyal to this government; and still defending Boris Johnson. I overheard some people defending him a few days ago. The way Jeremy Corbyn was treated in the press... If he'd slipped up a tiny fraction as much as Boris, they'd have given him hell. What can I say? We have a corrupt media, and a large number of people living here with poor critical thinking skills.

JanglyBeads · 28/05/2022 21:38

More details emerging (according to The Times) of how the Gray report was doctored before publication:
