To not cater for this

I'm cooking for 10 tonight. 5 couples, in the group there is someone who has a nut allergy and someone who has cealiocs (I've never figured the spelling) one of the pairs have just called to say that they are doing vegan weekends to reduce their carbon impact.... They are just checking that somethung tonight will be suitable... I've said it wont but that they are more than welcome to bring stuff. ... Am I being an unreasonable arse?

Veganism is completely unsustainable, they need supplements and even with those it destroys the body, we are not herbivores. Plants (grains, human cultivated vegetables that are not found in nature, legumes, nuts - which are actually seeds) are full of antinutrients and toxic compounds and block absorption of actual nutrients in humans. Plants do this to protect themselves from being eaten.

Kale and broccoli are so toxic that even sheep can’t eat them. Vegetable seed oils are extremely toxic and oxidise super fast, leading to heart disease amd arterial plaque. Fat doesn’t make you fat, not animal fats. Animal organs and products are the most nutrient dense foods for humans. Liver, oysters, brain, heart - we should be eating nose to tail for proper nutrition.

I forgot to mention m, the so called vegan staples of almonds, avocados, cashews, soy, cause untold climate damage, destroying biodiversity, killing millions of small animals and birds, get shipped from poor countries where they divert water from people to grow these unsustainable plants. The poor women farming cashews have black burnt fingertips from the toxicity of the cashews. Just look into it, don’t believe me.

Can't stand it when people are vegan for any other reason than to reduce animal suffering - awareness of carbon footprint gets a point but I have been vegan for years, far before it became a trend & I've always hated it when people say that they are doing it for "health reasons" or some such rubbish

Typical solipsistic delusional vegan

DoorWasAJar · 22/05/2022 19:58

@Strangeways19 @IncompleteSenten Vegans forget that humans are animals too. Human health is irrelevant nonsense to vegoons 😂

Marmite17 · 22/05/2022 20:10

Utter rubbish to be vegan for 2 days a week and expect you to cater for a chosen day when they could pick another.
Totally reasonable of you to suggest bringing their own food if they want to come.
Total twattery from them and I would imagine other dinner guests, especially those who genuinely have to follow restrictive diets for health reasons, would think the same.
Full time vegan, with notice, I would cater for. But not this precious behaviour.

StillWeRise · 22/05/2022 20:18

sorry what? anti nutrients? poisonous broccoli?

I'm coeliac. It's a medically diagnosed autoimmune disease. We are difficult to cater for. YOU ARE AMAZING AND KIND to cater for someone like me. Absolutely super! Anyone telling you at the very last minute that they have decided to be vegan for a couple of days needs a good head wobble.

snippysocks
I was really nervous at first but after a few years Ive got a bit more confidence. We have found that since the rise of veganisim the choice when we eat out for coeliacs seems to worse than before.

They didn't turn up!
Got a text to say they were just going to stay home.

I had a great night.

How bloody rude is that?!! Are/were you good friends?

alwaysontheloo · 22/05/2022 20:53

OP your vegan guests were so rude twice. Once to phone up and give you 6 hours notice of a dietary requirement and the second time texting you to say they weren't even coming at all. How much notice did they give when they pulled out? I bet you were punching the air when you saw their second text!

I once had a houseguest for a week (friend of XH) whom I asked if he had any dietary requirements or allergies. He said no dairy, wheat or tomato based foods Hmm Fuck knows how but I managed to cobble together a weeks worth of meal planning around this except for one night when XH decides we will get a takeaway. I was astounded to see the guest tucking into a meal loaded with dairy, wheat AND tomatoes and I asked him how come he was eating them and that I was thought he was allergic.

He rolled his eyes at me "No...I just didn't fancy eating them this week until now"

"They didn't turn up!

Haha muppets!

Honestly they're ridiculous. Weekend vegans indeed. 😂

BR1967 · 22/05/2022 21:05

Is Peanut Butter and Jelly---Vegan?

StillWeRise · 22/05/2022 21:30

nope

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 22/05/2022 21:32

how rude

at least pretend you’re unwell or there’s a family emergency

Augustmummy · 22/05/2022 21:34

virtue signalling pure and simple. What would bother me the most is that they don’t seem to care how much this will complicate your job, particularly at such short notice. Fair enough if they’re actually vegan, but not weekend vegans. They just want people to know how wonderfully green they are and how much they are doing their bit for the planet... yada yada yada 😴😴

i bet bet they still wear face masks and shop at a nearby eco shop and carry their babies on their bike seat.

420Bruh · 22/05/2022 21:36

They'd not get an invite from me again!

Honeyroar · 22/05/2022 21:44

How rude!

I hope the rest of you have lots of happy photos from the evening to share on social media for them to see!

Shitandhills · 22/05/2022 22:15

I had somebody turn up for dinner and, when I told them I was making butternut risotto for dinner, announce that they don't eat carbs in the evening. Cue me scurrying round, picking hazelnuts out of the muesli to make an Ottolenghi style salad etc (we were going on holiday the next day so very little in the fridge.) I made my partner some chips on the side. Put it all on the table and the silly cow started tucking into the chips.

Clearly one of them is a Mumsnetter

bluesapphire48 · 23/05/2022 00:03

ALL of them with special needs (including the carbon s(t)inkers) should have told you of their issues at the time you invited them. I would make at least a couple of dishes for the nut allergy folks (nut allergies can be deadly) and something for the celiac disease person, if those two special needs people let you know at least the day before, but don't worry about the carbon sink people.

You're not a hospital, for goodness sake!

MissTrip82 · 23/05/2022 00:53

They’re not vegans. They’re welcome to make Monday-Tuesday their ‘vegan weekend’ this week if they wish.

lol at the crazed VEGETABLES ARE TOXIC poster though. 😂😂😂😂😂 people really do get worked up over a way of eating that they don’t have to follow or engage with don’t they. Wonder why?

LoisLane66 · 23/05/2022 02:28

Loving most of the comments. Some are worthy of a comedy skit. 'Weekend vegans' and 'travel by pogo stick to cut down their carbon footprint' were two of many.
Mumsnet certainly has its share of heartbreak and disgust but many more helpful suggestions, laughs and ripe replies.
Keep it up. The balance is great...IMHO. 😁

RachaelN · 23/05/2022 07:22

Are they kidding? 🤣
If they were full time vegans I would understand, but how entitled are they to expect you to pander to their latest fad at such short notice?!
People really never cease to amaze me.

Slv199 · 23/05/2022 07:46

Say that's great, but at such short notice you can't cater for it as you already have the food and are already catering for two people with actual health issues.

SpindleInTheWind · 23/05/2022 07:50

The dinner party has been and gone.
