AIBU that football should not affect your mood

Everton have just lost. I now have to deal with a very pissed off husband - AIBU that my husband shouldn’t get too emotionally invested in something he has zero control over?

I’d understand a little bit more if he actually played on the bloody team!!

God I love football. My team not playing tonight but the backwards and forwards at this point in the season is just brilliant.

Isn't it great?!

Everything still to be decided. Winners, top 4, relegation, promotion.

It's not a rational argument & the game isn't over yet.

My ex was the same, and it got to the point I’m still triggered by football even 10yrs after we split. Our son (17) loves it too but his mood isn’t affected for hours after like his father.

Again, this thread is about somebody getting annoyed that his team are losing IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME, not hours after.

Darbs76 · 19/05/2022 21:38

I don’t think some people realise just how awful it can be living with someone whose mood is dictated like this. In my case it did lead to some serious issues, I still can’t stand to hear shouting. It gives me anxiety and I’m not an anxious person. For some people they are in for a nightmare day or more of a team lose. It’s not just about not understanding sport when it’s to this level

Nidan2Sandan · 19/05/2022 21:38

Dont mind people being invested as a fan, but when it turns them into violent, grumpy arseholes it's gone too far.

There is a reason police and DV agencies prepare for an influx of work when England plays big games.

My husband and I pray England win, not because we're fans, but because if they dont we have to deal with the fall out at work.

So glad I married someone with zero interest in football. I have friends who have husbands who get in a strop, it's so unattractive, like being married to a toddler.

Moral high ground. Is it chilly up there?

Darbs76 · 19/05/2022 21:40

@Fluval - and how do you know he’s going to be magically back to normal on 90 mins? Highly unlikely

My friend's taking me to Manchester City's final home game on Sunday. Her husband doesn't want to be anywhere near her if they don't win. 😁

peterpiperpickedapiece · 19/05/2022 21:40

They're 3-2 up ffs 🤷‍♀️

DH is a die hard Liverpool supporter. When they have down appallingly he's a bit/quiet down for a short while but none of that sulking or angry aggressive shit.

When was the last time Liverpool 'done appallingly?'

toastofthetown · 19/05/2022 21:40

Having feelings about something isn't a bad thing. I was delighted when the GB women won bronze in gymnastics at the Olympics. I was gutted when Uchimura Kohei fell during qualifying. Of course it's just people I don't know running and twisting around a gym. But life would be pretty joyless if you took everything down to it's base elements. I went to see Victoria Falls: just some water and rock.

He would be unreasonable if he ruined the mood of your house with a bad atmosphere, but being sad that a game hasn't gone your team's way is reasonable.

Oysterbabe · 19/05/2022 21:43

I'm pleased for Frank.
Awesome game 😊

Especially when only wearing a hair shirt!

This thread didn’t age well!

PrincessSpanky · 19/05/2022 21:46

@Livpool I grew up with Rugby and drank and ate around the TV with supporters from multiple teams and have never experienced the sheer aggression that comes from soccer. It was always a fun time.

Same with tennis, where's all the fights in bars, streets and all.

There really is no need to attack anyone due aggression from soccer teams loosing.

again2020 · 19/05/2022 21:46

Well done Everton! And I'm made up for Frank Lampard too!

--But now it'll be him drinking all weekend.
Don't know which is worse--

Erm - 6 losses in a row at Anfield in early 2021? Including losing 2-0 to Everton?

Everton are safe now, looking bad for Leeds. I was teaching in Leeds in the early 70s when being favourites to win all before them they won nothing. We had Leeds bras, all suppoprt and no cups!

BlueBloodedBlue · 19/05/2022 21:49

😁😁😁

Crimsonripple · 19/05/2022 21:50

Hmmm Everton have won!

tttigress · 19/05/2022 21:50

I find it slightly strange that people over say 30 with important things in there life such as family are anymore than mildly interested in how their team does.

The result of their football team being their whole life is not a good look!

purpleboy · 19/05/2022 21:51

Congratulations to all Everton fans on here, so glad to see you stay up. Scenes at the stadium are epic. Hope you all have a great night celebrating.
Love a huge Liverpool fan. X

Gosh yes. I'm 37. I suppose I should be gardening or spending the weekend at B&Q.😏

People are allowed have passions beyond family.

EL8888 · 19/05/2022 21:56

Pathetic and sad. This is why I don’t date men who are die hard football fans. They get on my nerves with their moods and wanting to revolve their / my life round it 🙄
