Everton have just lost. I now have to deal with a very pissed off husband - AIBU that my husband shouldn’t get too emotionally invested in something he has zero control over?

I’d understand a little bit more if he actually played on the bloody team!!

Figstar4eva · 19/05/2022 21:25

It shouldn't but you could really say that about most things in life.

Oysterbabe · 19/05/2022 21:26

How is he feeling now?

It's a huge game for Everton, I can completely understand him being a bit stroppy it was going badly. We're a Saints household and have spent many a season just hanging on to the bottom.

ilovesooty · 19/05/2022 21:28

Oh another thread to bring the anti football posters out.

They've equalised now.

Livpool · 19/05/2022 21:29

What? The match I still on and currently 2-2. DH is a blue and me a red. Neither of us get sulky after a match BUT Everton are still in danger of being relegated

BlueBloodedBlue · 19/05/2022 21:29

@weebarra - it's 9 years in Oct for me too - seems like 5 minutes and a lifetime ago at the same time. I'm good, thanks but got 2 1/2 years of tablets to go. Many congratulations on babybarra - bit late but it's great to hear your so well. I don't see many other names from that time but I guess others will have name changed too.

Fluval · 19/05/2022 21:29

I’d wager he suddenly has a bit of spring in his step, everything’s going Everton’s way now.

lovelychops · 19/05/2022 21:30

Must be tough living with an evertonian in general 😉

ilovesooty · 19/05/2022 21:30

3-2 now.

BlueBloodedBlue · 19/05/2022 21:31

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS UTFT

my blood pressure must be through the roof

Oysterbabe · 19/05/2022 21:31

I bet he's happy now 😁

DashboardConfessional · 19/05/2022 21:31

I think it's human to emotionally invest in things and then to have to deal with strong emotions when things go well or badly.

Completely agree.
My mum remembers my dad crying in his 20s when his team were knocked out. She gave him a hug and a cup of tea, as opposed to calling him names.

SpiritOfEdna · 19/05/2022 21:32

We’ll he might cheer up now - they are now winning 😀

Hallefuckinglujah · 19/05/2022 21:32

I hope you don't get replies like the woman with a Liverpool supporting boyfriend did a few weeks ago. Being upset and gutted is one thing but arguing with partners it making atmospheres is a shitty thing to do.

Change the hobby to something like golf or hockey or other tournaments like Eurovision and people would be told to get a grip or stop watching that particular event if you can't control your mood and it affects you the point your angry mood creates a shit atmosphere for your family.

I grew up with a dad who would behave like this over football and it was shit. Sometimes coming home from the pub angry drunk and in a stinking bad mood and it would last for days then opting out of parenting because he fucked off to lie in bed to "calm down". He was very unpleasant in other ways but people would excuse such shitty behaviour and still do because it's a high stakes match.

I feel sorry for women married to men like my Dad or the type of person who fights on the pub or the people part of state of increased domestic violence after big matches. If they can't watch watch team without making the household suffer because they can't regulate their emotions or put things into perspective then they shouldn't be watching football and this behaviour over any other hobby wouldn't be excused like it often is with football. There's a difference between being disappointed and a bit upset and stomping, banging, opting out of family life and creating an atmosphere for the rest of your family.

Fluval · 19/05/2022 21:33

So I’m mildly disappointed as I quite wanted Everton to get relegated (no offence to Evertonians, it’s just that you’re a relatively big club), but what a fantastic turnaround.

This is what makes sport so engaging.

Oysterbabe · 19/05/2022 21:33

Such is the emotional rollercoaster of football.

I bet he's happy now 😁

MN will probably allow him to feel happy, maybe even buy the OP a huge bouquet of flowers and a box of chocs to celebrate! My Leeds fan friend won't be happy though.

PrincessSpanky · 19/05/2022 21:33

Absolutely pathetic IMO.

That's what make me detest it completely.

The toddler tantrums, the pointless aggression and the absolute drama it causes.
For just a bit of ball kicking.

Classica · 19/05/2022 21:34

Your mood will of course be affected by something that you're obsessed with whether it's a football team, a character in a book dying, or whatever.

As long as it's not anger directed at other people in their vicinity, or prolonged moping it's fine.

stokiemum62 · 19/05/2022 21:34

God I love football. My team not playing tonight but the backwards and forwards at this point in the season is just brilliant.

JudgeJ · 19/05/2022 21:35

I can still recall Johnny Wilkinson's drop goal in 2003, our house painter thought someone was being murdered, such was the noise.

ilovesooty · 19/05/2022 21:35

just a bit of ball kicking

So football doesn't interest you. You don't have to be so dismissive of people who feel differently.

You could say that about anything though couldn't you?! My friend and her DP enjoy tennis - is that better?!

Darbs76 · 19/05/2022 21:36

My ex was the same, and it got to the point I’m still triggered by football even 10yrs after we split. Our son (17) loves it too but his mood isn’t affected for hours after like his father.

jenny5000 · 19/05/2022 21:36

He must be over the moon now. What a game!
